2020 Why Not HBCU Showcase Top Performers

On Wednesday, RecruitTheBronx.com got over to Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn for the Why Not HBCU Showcase, which was an opportunity for high school seniors throughout New York City and surrounding areas to gain some exposure as coaches from historically black colleges and universities (HBCU) on the NCAA Division I, Division II and NAIA, watched through a live-stream to see and evaluate future prospects. Here are some of the standouts from the event:

 

Kipplyn Richvine 6-1, Shooting Guard, South Shore High School, Class of 2021 - A guard that is strong and can absorb contact when it comes to going to the basket. Has a good defensive presence when it comes to getting blocks, steals and rebounds. Is one that loves to play above the rim as his athleticism is off the charts.

 

Tyreke Harewood 6-10, Forward, Brooklyn Collegiate High School, Class of 2021 -A forward that is dominant in the paint and loves to hold his own when it comes to either getting rebounds or scoring on offense. Has a penchant for blocking shots and uses his physicality to muscle his way in for baskets. Has good hands that allow him to do hook shots or snare rebounds.

 

Kelechi Okworogwo 6-6, Forward, Brooklyn Collegiate High School, Class of 2021 - A forward that is a force in the paint area and can crash the boards for rebounds and block shots. Has the ability to step out and shoot and is very versatile at his size Likes to play above the rim and has superb athleticism.

 

Jordan Johnson-Morgan 5-11, Point Guard, Brooklyn Law & Tech High School, Class of 2021 - A guard that is quick and deceptive with the ball and is very knowledgeable about when to take shots and when to pass the ball. Is very quickness and is able to get to the basket at the right time. Has excellent court vision.

 

Promise Opurum 6-7, Forward, New Rochelle High School, Class of 2021 - A forward that loves to dominate in the paint area on the offensive end and is good at attacking the glass for rebounds. Is a great shot blocker and uses his hands to alter the opposition’s shot attempts. Establishes his presence in the paint very well.

 

Jayson McGhee 6-1, Shooting Guard, New Rochelle High School, Class of 2021 - A guard that is very strong and is able to get baskets efficiently. Is wonderful at absorbing contact and is fearless when driving to the basket. Is a player that can score at will if allowed.

 

Jaden Clarke 6-6, Forward, Vision Academy, Class of 2021 - A forward that is offensive threat in the paint area, but can also step out and play on the perimeter. Is able to shoot from long range and can also back down the opposition in the post. A player that can do many things on the floor and is a valuable asset to whichever team he plays for.

 

Al-Fatir Connor II, 6-0, Point Guard, Elizabeth High School (NJ), Class of 2021 - A guard that is a pure floor general on the floor. What he lacks in size, he makes up for in effort. Is great with his speed as he runs well on the fast break and manages to get his teammates the ball at the right time.

 

Kevin Tabb, 6-2, Shooting Guard, Quality Academy (NJ), Class of 2021 - A guard that can do many things on the offensive end. Is great at picking his spots to shoot, especially if it is from three-point range. Has a penchant for rebounding and runs well on the offensive end, particularly if he is handling the ball on the fast break.

 

Jorge Brito Vargas, 6-0, Point Guard, Brandeis High School, Class of 2021 - A guard that has a good sense of awareness of the court and can attack the basket easily. Has plenty of speed and uses it to get up and down the floor. Is able to ensure that his teammates get baskets.

 

Alberto Vargas 5-10, Point Guard, WHEELS, Class of 2021 - A guard that has plenty of quickness and is able to get past his defender with blinding speed and to the basket with ease. Is an offensive threat, as he has many ways to score. Has good hands on the defensive end, as he is prone to getting steals.

 

Will White, 5-11, Point Guard, NY Military Academy, Class of 2021 - A guard that is smart and makes good decisions for his teammates when giving them the ball. Is a player that has great shot making prowess. Knows when and where to pick his spots to shoot and when to pass the ball.

 

Ronan McGouran 6-3, Shooting Guard, Bishop Loughlin High School, Class of 2021 - A guard that is a good at reading the defense, as he is able to get to the basket easily. Also has the ability to shoot and gives maximum effort when he’s on the floor. Is great for staying on his man defensively, and is known to get steals.

 

Sirr White 6-3. Shooting Guard, Erasmus Hall High School, Class of 2021 - A guard that has great court vision and is always ready and alert on the court. Knows when to give his teammates the ball at the right moments. Is able to find multiple ways to get to the basket as a way to score.

 

Nigel Dyall, 6-3, Shooting Guard, Westinghouse High School, Class of 2021 - A guard that can do many things on the court, including setting screens, moving without the ball and is able to play defense. Is able to find ways to get to the hole and has good hands to grab rebounds. Is a player that can make.

 

Trew Dixon 5-10, Shooting Guard, Mount St. Michael Academy, Class of 2021 - A guard that is able to space the floor and can find ways to get shots on the open floor. Is able to facilitate to his teammates when it comes to passing the ball. Is great at shooting from long-range jumpers from the three, especially when left open.

 

Alijah England 6-4, Shooting Guard, Curtis High School, Class of 2021 - A guard that and likes to run the floor on both ends and is a great asset to his team. Makes plenty of hustle plays and is not afraid of drawing contact, as a way to get to the line. Is great at getting rebound. Is one that is able to create off the dribble and can take over the game.

 

Isiah Folk 6-1, Shooting Guard, Brooklyn Law & Tech High School, Class of 2021 - A guard that is very energetic and can make plenty of plays when on the court. Is a player that has a penchant for scoring and is lightning-quick when on the fast break. Can create for himself off the dribble and is able to shoot from the perimeter.

 

Ibrahim Kone, 6-2, Shooting Guard, Brandeis High School, Class of 2021 - A guard that can do everything on the floor. Is very active when it comes to loose balls and rebounds and has good hands on the defensive end. Is able to run on the fast break and is able to get to the basket. Is able to put the ball on the floor and dribble through both ends of the court.

 

Roberto Ward, 5-8, Point Guard, Erasmus Hall High School, Class of 2021 - A guard that is able to attack and penetrate to the hole and is not afraid to absorb contact. Finds ways to get to the free throw line and is able to convert. Makes plenty of hustle plays and is able to obtain rebounds.
