2023 IS8 Championship Standouts

On May 20, we were at Richard S. Grossley Junior High for the Final Four of the IS8 Spring Classic, in which four teams (CST Elite, Rundown, Kips Bay and Elmcor) from the Tri-State area played against each other for the title. In the end, it would be Rundown finishing off the Spring Classic with the championship win. Here are the standouts from championship weekend:


KJ Satterfield, 6-4, Point Guard, The Patrick School (NJ), Kips Bay, Class of 2023 - A guard that has a penchant for changing the tempo of the game If need be. Has the ability for driving to the basket and finishing strong when going up for two. Has the ability to make the right pass when the opportunity presents itself.

 

Brandon Stores, Jr. 6-4, Forward, St. Raymond High School, Kips Bay, Class of 2025 - A forward that has the ability to use his strength and impose his will on both ends of the court. Is able to run well on both ends of the court and is able to dominate on the glass. Has the ability to shoot from the perimeter and is able to showcase his athleticism when going to the basket to score.

 

Jayden Williams 6-3, Forward, Cardinal Hayes High School, Kips Bay, Class of 2023 - A forward that has great footwork and is willing to battle with the opposition under the boards. Has a penchant for using his athleticism and is always looking to get to the basket. Is prone to getting fouled and gets to the free-throw line, where he makes plenty of foul shots.

 

Don Colon-Lewis 6-6, Forward, Xaverian High School, Elmcor, Class of 2023 - A forward that has a penchant for making an impact when he’s on the court. Is able to put the ball on the floor and can post up on any defender, due to his size. Is able to finish strong when going to the basket and is fearless when it comes to getting fouled and going to the free-throw line.

 

Darnell Childs 5-9, Shooting Guard, High School for Construction, Elmcor, 2024 - A guard that has plenty of speed and quickness in his game and is fearless when on the fast break. Has a penchant for pulling up from the perimeter or from three-point range. Despite his frame, he is still able to get to the basket easily and can draw fouls easily.

 

Jabari Phillips 6-5, Forward, Monsignor Scanlan High School, Elmcor, Class of 2023 - A forward that is able to make a great impact in the post area and on the game. Has the ability to box out and hold his own in the low post area, when it comes to rebounding or offensive opportunities. Has the ability to hit a shot from 10-15 feet outside the basket. When driving to the basket, he makes strong drives.

 

Halon Rawlins 6-6, Forward, Nazareth High School, Rundown, Class of 2025 - A forward that has the ability to display plenty of toughness under the boards & is also able to put the ball on the floor. Loves to attack the glass and get up for rebounds. Has the ability to drive to the basket and score. Has a nice shooting touch from the perimeter.

 

Tai Turnage 5-11, Point Guard, St. Raymond High School, Rundown, Class of 2025 - A guard that has the ability to make the right plays at the right moments. Has the ability to anticipate his teammates moving, so that he can give them passes that can aid in them getting a chance to score. Has the ability to make pull-up jumpers and is also a solid defender that can cause turnovers.

 

Taj Bryant 6-2, Shooting Guard, Eagle Academy II, Rundown, Class of 2024 - A guard that has the ability to be a playmaker on the offensive end and can play tough on both ends of the floor. Has a penchant for forcing the opposition into giving up the ball with his defensive posture. Has a nice jumper and is prone to making strong finishes at the basket.

 

Carsen Howard, 6-9, Forward, Archbishop Wood High School (PA), CST Elite, Class of 2023 - A forward that has the ability to play strong defense and hold his own in the low post. Is a player that has great lateral movement and is always ready to anticipate passes that could potentially lead to baskets. Is fearless when going up for a basket and uses his physicality to muscle his way to the basket.

 

Zoe Holman, 6-0, Shooting Guard, Olympus Prep School (NJ), CST Elite, Class of 2023 - A guard that has a penchant for being a playmaker on the offensive end of the court. Has a penchant for creating for himself off the dribble and can be an offensive threat if not contained. Loves to shoot fadeaway jumpers on the perimeter and has the ability to showcase plenty of athleticism when driving to the basket.
