Capital Prep Magnet School 2020-21 Season Preview

Capital Prep is a magnet school in Hartford, Connecticut that prides itself in its record of 100% college placement for its graduates. It’s varsity basketball plays is coached by Levy Gilespie and plays in the Connecticut state association, aka the CIAC.

 

This is a program with multiple college prospects.

 

Chris Hough a 6-foot-3 2021 guard is long, wiry and extremely athletic. Hough is a consistent shooting threat from behind the arc, but can also make plays off the bounce with a solid handle, first-step, and plays above the rim.

 

Jalen Gordon a 6-foot-3 2021 guard is long, strong, and athletic with the physical profile to play and defend almost any position. He can really get downhill in the open floor, and from a standstill in a half-court set. Gordon makes plays for himself and his teammates and is a consistent threat from beyond the arc.

 

Kadeem McKnight a 6-foot 2021 guard is quick with good natural pace to his game, a solid handle and can get to the basket and make plays. He is a tough minded defensive stopper. McKnight is high academic student.

 

Nahzeer Henry a 6 foot 2021 guard is a two-way player that can pressure the ball defensively but also has well-rounded offensive tools.

 

Ahmad Storey a 6 foot 2021 is a sneaky scorer that is best in the open court. Storey finds a way to score and get to the free-throw line.

 

Keyshawn Mitchell a 6-foot-9 2022 guard that can do it all. Mitchell is an unselfish playmaker that runs the point and has the versatility to play and defend all 5 positions. He has a deceptive handle and can get to the basket as well as shoot it from 3.  He blocks, shots rebounds and starts the fast break.

 

Quincy Ferguson 6-foot-4 2022 is a skilled southpaw shooting guard with broad shoulders, a strong upper-body, soft hands, and good footwork to operate inside and out, Ferguson can power his way to the basket and also is a threat from three-point range. Ferguson is a high academic student.

 

Mehki Tyson-Slaughter 6-foot-3 2022 guard/forward Is strong with explosive athleticism. His bounce compliments his power and is an open floor playmaking threat around the rims on both ends of the floor. Tyson-Slaughter Rebounds in bunches, can defend multiple positions and has a nice shooting touch.

 

Elijah Craig 5-foot-9 2022 guard ha solid skill-set and good overall feel for the game. He can shoot with range and is able to get off his shot at the basket with floaters over bigger defenders. Craig can make plays off the bounce and can pass effectively with either hand.

 

Nehemiah Johnson 6-foot 2023 guard is a tough.  Johnson is a pass first guard that can make plays off the bounce and knock down open shots that extends out to the 3 point arc. He plays hard on the defensive end and uses and speed and toughness to disrupt opposing guards.
