2023 Battle in New Jersey Standouts

On Thursday night, December 29, we got ourselves to Jersey Mike’s Arena on the campus of Rutgers University in Piscataway, NJ, for The Battle in New Jersey event, which was put together by Gold Level Sports & Entertainment. In this event, four teams from New York and Connecticut came out to compete against schools from Pennsylvania and New Jersey and there was also a CHSAA league game between Christ the King and St. Raymond that took place. Here are the standouts from all four games:


Gavin Griffiths 6-7, Shooting Guard, Kingswood-Oxford School, Class of 2023 (Rutgers University commit) - A guard that has plenty of versatility in his game and can do many things on the court. Is known for his penchant for his nice shooting touch from three-point range, which can break down the opposition if they do not guard him heavily. Has plenty of athleticism, as he has incredible leaping ability when it comes to him going up to the rim on the offensive end.


Esco Greene 6-0, Point Guard, Kingswood-Oxford School, Class of 2023 - A guard that has plenty of quickness and has the ability to be a facilitator on the offensive end, as he knows where to get his teammates the ball at the right moments. Is able to obtain steals and get down court easily. Is very fearless when going up to the basket to score and also has a nice jumper.


Brandon Stores Jr. 6-4, Forward, St. Raymond High School, Class of 2025 - A forward that is able to maintain his presence in the low post and is able to step outside of the post and shoot. Is able to get to drive to the basket and is able to absorb contact and draw fouls. Is able to use his physicality to snare rebounds and will kick it out to the opposition.


Tai Turnage 5-10, Point Guard, St. Raymond High School, Class of 2025 - A guard that is known for being his team’s main facilitator on the court. Has a penchant for driving to the basket and is very fearless when he does so. Has a nice shooting touch from the top of the key. Is a solid defender when on the court, as he is able to use his hands to get steals with ease.


Ahmir Moore 6-1, Point Guard, St. Raymond High School, Class of 2023 - A guard that has the ability to see the floor and knows when to deliver the right passes to his teammates. Has the ability to figure out when to shoot and when to pass the ball. Is a player that can drive to the basket and can also shoot from three-point range.


Brandon Gardner 6-9, Forward, Christ the King High School, Class of 2023 (st John’s University commit)- A forward that has plenty of energy when on the court. Is a powerful force when on the boards and is able to maintain his presence in the low-post on both ends. Is able to dominate the post on both ends with his physicality. Is able to power up and throw down powerful dunks on the offensive end. Is a great shot-blocker as well.


Qinfang Pang 6-9, Forward, Christ the King High School, Class of 2024 - A forward that is very skilled and versatile when on the floor. Is able to put the ball on the floor and can post up against the opposition. Is able to step out and shoot from the corner or from three-point range. Is very aggressive when going to the hole, as he is bound to score and be aggressive at the basket.


Devin Vanterpool 6-3, Shooting Guard, Christ the King High School, Class of 2023 - A guard that has a penchant for making the right plays in the right moments. Has a solid jumper and is able to create for himself off the dribble. Has a penchant for driving to the basket and is able to finish strong when going up for two.


Jakeel Registe 6-6, Shooting Guard, Our Saviour Lutheran High School, Class of 2024 - A guard that has plenty of athleticism in his game and can make big plays when on the court. Has a penchant for making big plays and can throw down plenty of dunks. Has a nice floater and is very alert when the ball goes up, as he is always awaiting rebounds.


Christian Jones 6-4, Shooting Guard, Our Saviour Lutheran High School, Class of 2023 (George Washington University commit) - A guard that has the ability to be a facilitator on the court. Has the ability to space out the floor and can see where his teammates are moving in order for them to get the ball in their hands. Has the ability to drive to the basket and is a strong finisher.


Jahmere Trip 6-6, Forward, Our Saviour Lutheran High School, Class of 2023 (Fordham University commit) - A forward that is the X-factor of his team as he has the assignment of guarding the team’s best scorer. Is able to use his physicality to make his presence felt on the boards when it comes to him getting rebounds. Is very strong and can hold his own when going up to score.
