Monsignor McClancy 2020-21 Season Preview
Monsignor McClancy Memorial High School is located in the East Elmhurst neighborhood of Queens. Their varsity boys basketball team is coached by Anthony Olszewski and they compete in the New York Catholic High School Athletic Association A division.
Coach Olszewski’s key players for the 2020-21 season will be:
Robert Zmudzjin (2021) - 6’6” with great hands, and is an excellent finisher around the basket. He put in a ton of work, and lost 45 lbs since quarantine began. Relentless rebounder.
Matthew Montella (2021) - 6’5” and lanky. He is a good shot blocker and has great touch. He shoots well out to 23 feet, Ie., he is not a line-hugger. He is working on quickening his release amd improving his ball handling. He had a 41 pt game as a sophomore on the JV, so the scoring skills are there.
Dylan Jones 2021- 6’3”. Jones is an excellent rebounder and can be a streaky hot shooter from the perimeter.
Ryan Anderson 2021 5’8” - Super fast, one of fastest kids end-to-end in the CHSAA. He is an adept passer and solid spot-up shooter. Anderson thrives in the open floor. Coach O says he has improved his decision-making and his ability to absorb contact as he has matured.
Bryan Davila (2021) 5’9” Davila is a good on-ball defender. He has improved shooting ability to 19 feet. Spent summer working on ball handling and physical fitness. Coaxch O describes Davilla as a phenomenal student.
Jamir King (2021) 5’9” excellent athlete.. superb leaper. Gets out well in transition good spot up shooter.
Zachary Hirschman (2022) 5’10 - Hirschman has an explosive first step and is a good finisher through contact. He has a natural knack for putting ball in the hole.
Gabriel Mazariegos (2022) - Mazariegos is 6’3” and is a good ball handler, finisher and defender. He understands space and how to move the ball
Daniel Penubothula (2022) - A recent transfer into McClancy who is 6’7”. He is a good shot blocker and shoots with range out to 22 feet. H is working to improve his body. Coach says that Penubothula is a hard worker
Giovanni Grey (2022) 5’10” and also is a rrecent transfer to McClancy. He is tough, physical and is a solid shooter.
