2024 Castle Athletics 16u-Herc Player Profiles
Castle Athletics is a New York City based youth athletics program that is run by a deep and impressive staff. The Castle basketball program provides seasoned and respected coaches, superior training and opportunities to compete at the highest level. Their student athletes also participate in required weekly tutoring sessions individually designed to academically enrich at every level.
Their 17u basketball team is coached by the veteran Josh “Herc” Mejia and his assistant, Jared Thornton. Their roster is as below:

Amadou ‘Hami’ Berry (2027) 5’11 point guard, James Monroe Campus
- Crafty playmaking guard that can finish with either hand. Great floor vision gets teammates open and good on ball defender
Drew Diaz (2027) 6’0 point guard, Mount St Michael Academy - Very good shooter and scorer. Makes the right plays. Very consistent in his plays. Good teammate and high IQ of the game.
Gilbert Baez-Rodriguez (2027) 6’5 guard, Monsignor Scanlan High - He can put the ball in the basket! Very passionate about the game! Aggressive downhill guard that can finish and can shoot!

Low post presence that can stretch out and hit the three! Physical forward that doesn’t mind to bang!
Brian Kapfer 6’4 2026
Long range sniper! He can really shoot the basketball with a quick release. Can score in the open floor going to the basket.
Emmanuel Nieves 5’9 2026
Steady point guard that can set the team up to score and be successful. Pest defensively on the ball. Can score when need to but rather set up his teammate
Dem Mohammed 6’10 2026
Rim protector that run the floor! High motor plays the possessions all the way through! Good rebounder! Good hands and can finish above the rim!
Acalan Fauntleroy 6’10 2026
Athletic Forward that can block shots and run the floor! Can shoot 15-20 feet out. Also can finish above the rim!
Amir Cummings 6’3 2026
Big guard that can do a little bit of everything you need! High IQ. Very good defender! Slasher that create for himself and others!
Richard Fernandez 2027 5’10
Ultra quick guards with good hands. Always around the basketball. Very good pesky defender like a thief. Can score the ball!
Anthony Mann 7’0
Very long big that is growing his game every day! Soft touch that can shoot at the 3 point line.
