The Scrimmage - Rens v City Rocks Top Performers 4/17/21

On Saturday, RecruitTheBronx.com paid a visit to The Grail Sports Complex in Wilmington, Delaware for The Scrimmage, courtesy of Team Final, in which some of the teams from the Northeast came out to play in two days during this weekend. Two of New York State’s elite programs, the Albany City Rocks and the New York Rens played in three games against each other through three different age groups - 15U, 16U and 17U - and all three games were played competitively. Here are the standouts for all three age groups:

 

Dante Green, 6-3, Shooting Guard, Upper Room Christian School, New York Rens 15U, Class of 2024 -A guard with plenty of speed and great athleticism. Knows how to shift speeds when driving to the basket and loves to play above the rim. Is good at creating for himself on the offensive end and is able to set teams up for baskets.

 

Richard Brisco 6-7, Forward, Roselle Catholic High School (NJ), New York Rens 15U, Class of 2024 - A forward that is powerful on both ends of the floor and can make things happen for his team. Is a physical player when it comes to getting rebounds and blocking shots and knows how to seal his defender. Likes to play above the rim and is good at putting the ball on the floor.

 

Nico Peña 6-0, Point Guard, Xaverian High School, New York Rens 15U, Class of 2024 - A guard that can make plenty of plays off the ball. Is always able to catch and shoot from long range. Can destroy a team if he is not guarded heavily, as his shot is known to break down the opposition’s zone defense.

 

Jayden Ramirez 6-4, Shooting Guard, Christ the King High School, New York Rens 15U, Class of 2025 - A guard that is crafty and is able to see where his teammates are moving on the floor so that he can give them good passes, which could then lead to assists. Is very careful with his shot selection, as he chooses the right moments to shoot. Knows when to drive to the hole and is fearless when absorbing contact.

 

Bryson Brown, 6-0, Point Guard, Mercersburg Academy (PA), Albany City Rocks 15U, Class of 2024 - A floor general with good point guard instincts when controlling his team on the floor. Is a player that know where his teammates are going at all times as a way to set them up for passes that lead to points. Has superb quickness when it comes to getting down the court.


Bruce Wingate, 6-1, Shooting Guard, Liverpool High School, Albany City Rocks 15U, Class of 2024 - A guard that has a quick first-step and plenty of energy when on the floor. Knows when to attack in terms of driving to the basket and is good at creating for himself off the dribble. Is a player that can score at will.

 

Mason Blackwood, 6-5, Forward, Aquinas Institute, Albany City Rocks 15U, Class of 2024 - A forward that is a good ball handler for his large frame and is good at moving off the ball and anticipating a pass. Is fearless when driving to the basket and is able to absorb contact when driving to the lane. Is also a good passer.

 

Scotty Middleton, 6-7, Forward, The Patrick School (NJ), New York Rens 16U, Class of 2023 - A forward that is long, athletic and loves to run the floor. Has the ability to play above the rim and has long arms that aid in him blocking shots and rebounding. Has plenty of finesse in his game.

 

Quinfang Pang, 6-8, Forward, The Patrick School (NJ), New York Rens 16U, Class of 2024 - A forward that is strong and is able to hold his own in the paint area. Is great at contesting shots around the rim and is great at intimidating players when they’re driving into the basket when he puts up his long arms around the way. Is a solid rebounder and is a force on the offensive end, when it comes to scoring.

 

Ty-laur Johnson 6-0, Point Guard, St. Benedict’s Preparatory School (NJ), New York Rens 16U, Class of 2023 - A guard that is a great at running a team and is a master at knowing how to control his team’s tempo on the court. Has jet-like quickness when getting up and down the court. Has good hands, which grants him the ability to get steals on the defensive end.

 

Trey Autry, 6-3, Shooting Guard, Western Reserve Academy (OH), Albany City Rocks 16U, Class of 2023 - A guard hat is very strong and loves to go to the basket. When driving to the lane, he is always ready to absorb contact. Is a good finisher in the lane and is very crafty with the ball. Is always alert when it comes to playing defense.

 

Damarius Owens, 6-6, Forward, Aquinas Institute, Albany City Rocks 16U, Class of 2023 - A forward with a long frame that is good for using his weight on the opposition. Runs very well and is able to seal boards at an efficient rate. Is good at setting putback baskets and is alert when it comes to getting rebounds.

 

DeAndre Johnson, 6-8, Forward, Newburgh Free Academy, Albany City Rocks 16U, Class of 2023 - A forward with an imposing frame that can intimidate opposing guards. Has a long wingspan and uses his hands to deter or alter shots. Is a good rebounder and can also run the floor well.

 

Marquis Hamby, 6-2, Troy High School, Albany City Rocks 16U, Class of 2023 - A guard with good decision-making skills and court vision. Is a player that likes to drive to the basket and can absorb physical contact. Has a nice shooting touch off the dribble. Is able to make highlight-reel plays.

 

J.J. Starling, 6-0, Point Guard, La Lumiere School (IN), Albany City Rocks, Class of 2022 - A guard with a huge penchant for scoring in bunches. Is a player that is known to pull up for jumpers from three-point range and is quick and deceptive when on the floor. Has good defensive tendencies, as far as staying with his man and getting steals.

 

Jonathan Beagle, 6-8, Forward, St. Thomas More School (CT), Albany City Rocks 17U, Class of 2022 - A forward that has good movement on the offensive end and is always able to move around off the ball. Is easily able to anticipate passes when running towards the basket and is able to score with ease. Also likes to play above the rim, as he is great at dunking.

 

Marcus Jackson, 6-3, Shooting Guard, Cushing Academy (MA), Albany City Rocks 17U, Class of 2022 - A guard that has good court vision and affords his teammates the ability to be in position to get baskets. Is able to create for himself off the dribble and has the ability to get into the lane with ease. Has the ability to play above the rim.

 

Roddy Gayle, 6-5, Shooting Guard, Wasatch Academy (UT), New York Rens 17U, Class of 2022 - A guard that is a true playmaker on the floor and can do many things with the ball, as far as facilitating to his teammates and scoring. Knows when to attack the lane and run in transition. Has a good jumper from the corner and has good passing abilities.

 

Matthew Filipowski 7-0, Forward, Wilbraham & Monson Academy (MA), New York Rens 17U, Class of 2022 - A forward that has a very long frame and has the ability to put the ball on the floor and get to the basket with ease. A player that can play above the rim and dominate in the post area. Has great physicality and can make the opposition think twice when making decisions about scoring.

 

Dominick Barlow, 6-9, Forward, Dumont High School (NJ), New York Rens 17U, Class of 2022 - A forward that is a bruiser in the paint and can absorb plenty of contact when going up for two at the basket. Has long arms and is able to hold his own when in the post area and is able to snare rebounds with precision and block shots.
