Smartball Classic Top Performers 8/2/21

On August 2, RecruitTheBronx.com headed to Harlem to check out some 2021 Smartball Classic games. The Classic moved to a new location this year, the Nat Holman Gymnasium on the campus of the City College of New York. The two games that we caught had some talented players as New Jersey’s Quality Academy played against Brooklyn Law & Tech and the main event was Benjamin Cardozo High going up against Xaverian High. Here are the standouts for Friday’s games:

 

Donavin Crawford, 6-5, Forward, Quality Academy (NJ), Class of 2022 -A forward that is physically imposing and has plenty of strength when in the low post. Has a nice shooting touch and has great footwork that aid in him moving swiftly in the paint area. Is able to score in bunches and is a great asset to his squad.

 

Nasir Collins, 5-8, Point Guard, Quality Academy (NJ), Class of 2022 - A guard with a great motor, as he is not afraid to take a high volume shot every time he steps on the floor. Loves to shoot from long range and can hurt a team with his scoring. Has blinding quickness, which results in him getting down court   and getting to the basket after obtaining a steal.

 

Albright Obode, 6-9, Forward, Quality Academy (NJ), Class of 2022 - A forward that plays very tough when in the paint area & does not hesitate to establish his position. Is able to be very alert when it goes to loose balls or when the ball goes up after it hits the rim. Is able to make strong drives to the basket, which often result in baskets.

 

Amirr Carter-Smith, 6-1, Shooting Guard, Quality Academy (NJ), Class of 2022 - A guard that is a legit scorer that finds a way to get baskets. When not guarded heavily around the three-point range. Is a player that always goes after the ball and uses his speed to his advantage at all times.

 

D’mair Williams 6-2, Shooting Guard, Brooklyn Law & Tech High School, Class of 2023 - A guard that knows how to spread the floor and can play in many areas on the court, such as the perimeter and in the lane. Is a player that can step out and shoot and can find ways to be effective on the court. Is a good rebounder and loves to run.

 

Gregory Ricketts 5-9, Point Guard, Brooklyn Law & Tech High School, Class of 2022 - A guard that presents quickness when getting up and down the court. Has good defensive posture and looks to get steals. Is very good at facilitating the ball to his teammates and can monitor when they’re moving so that they can get passes that result in them getting baskets.

 

Siyani Arthur 5-11, Point Guard, Brooklyn Law & Tech High School, Class of 2024 - A guard that has a good feel for the game, as he always knows when to take shots at the right time and also when to kick it out to his teammates for an assist. Is able to get his shot off efficiently, as he is able to shoot from the top of the key. Uses his speed to get to the basket and is fearless when it comes to absorbing contact.

 

Nasir Muhammad 5-7, Shooting Guard, Brooklyn Law & Tech High School, Class of 2023 - A guard that has plenty of quickness and has great court vision. Is a person that loves to get after the ball and looks to get steals. Is fearless when going to the basket and can absorb contact when going up for two.

 

Nico Peña 5-11, Shooting Guard, Xaverian High School, Class of 2024 - A guard that can spread the floor and can create for himself offensively. A player that can shoot the lights out and wreck the opposition’s defense with his shooting from three-point range. Can be tough to contain if not guarded heavily.

 

Michael Walker 6-7, Forward, Xaverian High School, Class of 2023 - A forward that has good footwork and makes swift moves on the offensive end when going towards the basket. Is an imposing figure in the paint area that can help neutralize the opposition when it comes to them trying to score. Has good hands and great positioning when it comes to him being on the defensive end.

 

Supreme Niles 5-9, Point Guard, Xaverian High School, Class of 2022 - A guard that brings the ball up, but also knows how to set his teammates up for baskets and can get plenty of assists. Has the ability to break down the opposition’s defense by getting to the basket. Has the ability to decide whether to take a shot or whether to kick it out to a teammate.

 

Aaron Goldstein 5-10, Shooting Guard, Xaverian High School, Class of 2023 - A guard that is a flat-out scorer and is never afraid to take shots when given the opportunity. Is not afraid of attacking the basket and is fearless when going to the hole. Is a player that has plenty of confidence when on the floor.

 

Nathaniel Morris 6-4, Forward, Xaverian High School, Class of 2022 - A forward that is very strong and is able to move around off the ball and anticipate a pass when it comes to offense. Is known for holding his own in the post and establishes his position when it comes to obtaining rebounds. Is able to score with ease.

 

Jaylin Simmons 5-11, Point Guard, Cardozo High School, Class of 2022 - A guard that plays with plenty of energy every time out. Is able to attack in the lane and can make plenty of great moves when going to the basket. Has a great shot selection when it comes to him making attempts to score.

 

Yanni Mousios 6-5, Forward, Cardozo High School, Class of 2022 -A forward that is a glue guy and does what his team needs him to do at all times. Is always ready to attack the glass when it comes to getting rebounds. Also has the mobility to get the basket and score.

 

Toby Pascual 5-9, Point Guard, Cardozo High School, Class of 2023 - A guard that is able to bring the ball up and set his teammates up to score. Has good IQ and knows where to move when on the floor. Is able to drive to the basket with ease and can attack the basket.

 

Denym Leslie 6-3, Forward, Cardozo High School, Class of 2023 - A forward that is able to get to the basket easily and makes hustle plays. Knows when to attack the glass and snare rebounds. Is able to score when needed and gets to the basket with ease.

 

Jaden Dowdell 6-3, Forward, Cardozo High School, Class of 2022 - A forward that has plenty of strength and is able to use his footwork and physicality to have his way in the paint area. Is not afraid of absorbing physical contact and is able to get fouled and get to the free throw line. Is counted on to do the team’s dirty work in the post when in the game.
