2021 City is Mine Top Performers

On August 21, RecruitTheBronx.com paid a visit to the Colonel Charles Young Playground in Harlem for the City Is Mine Tournament. The event had four grass roots teams filled with some of the finest players in the Tri-state area. The four teams were Team Shine, Milbank, Real Skills and United Brooklyn. In the end, Real Skills prevailed and won it all. Here are the standouts from the event:

 

Promise Opurum 6-7, Forward, Woodstock Academy (CT), Team Shine, Class of 2022 - A forward that has a great post presence when it comes to the offensive end and is dominant force when it comes to the defensive end for rebounds. Is great at using his strength to hold his own in the post and is great at using his length to alter the opposition’s shot or block the shot.

 

Jayshane Woodard 6-6, Forward, Woodstock Academy (CT), Team Shine, Class of 2022 - A forward that is very skilled and can do a lot of things on the floor. Has the ability to create for himself off the dribble. Is able to use his length to post up on smaller defenders and can do damage inside the lane and out and has the ability to shoot from long range.

 

Cameron Estevez 6-3, Shooting Guard, Teaneck High School (NJ), Team Shine, Class of 2023 - A guard that likes to slice and dice to the basket and can get past his defender easily. Has the ability to absorb contact when going up for a basket. Has the ability to shoot from long range off of the dribble.

 

Will Franks 6-8, Forward, Northfield Mount Hermon School (MA), Team Shine, Class of 2023 - A forward that is always alert on the defensive end, as he is always looking for steals and can get downcourt easily. Is able to handle the ball on the perimeter and loves to drive to the basket. Is very athletic and can play above the rim. Also has a nice shooting touch.

 

Tyler Hawkins 5-9. Point Guard, Mount St. Michael Academy, Team Shine, Class of 2022 - A guard that has the ability to make hustle plays on the floor and has a penchant for making clutch plays when his team needs them. Despite his small frame, he is fearless when driving to the basket & is able to absorb physical contact when driving to the hole, as he looks to get to the free throw line. Has the ability to shoot from long range, especially if not guarded heavily.

 

Zakai Ziegler 5-10, Point Guard, Our Saviour Lutheran School, Real Skills. Class of 2022 - A guard that has great energy on the floor and always comes ready to play at all times. Is a player that has plenty of quickness and loves to run in transition to get to the basket with ease. Is always ready to hit his teammates with passes, but also looks to score when he has the opportunity.

 

Tyshawn Trail 6-3, Shooting Guard, Woodstock Academy (CT), Real Skills, Class of 2022 - A guard that has the ability to create for himself off the dribble. Has a lot of speed and loves to drive to the basket when on the fast break. Has the ability to shoot from long range, especially if left unattended. Is known for getting to the rim with ease, especially when he is on the break.

 

Jaquan Sanders 6-3, Shooting Guard, Our Saviour Lutheran School, Real Skills, Class of 2022 - A guard that has a penchant for scoring at all times. Has the ability to hit shots from long range & can get down court and play above the rim, as he showcases his athleticism as well. Is fearless when going up to the basket and can absorb contact, which helps him get to the free throw-line.

 

Amadou Diallo 5-10, Point Guard, Putnam Science Academy, Real Skills, Class of 2022 - A guard that has a penchant for being a true floor general on the court. Has a lot of quickness and athleticism and can get to the basket. Has good hands and is able to get to the ball easily and is prone to getting steals, which end in baskets. Is able to distribute the ball efficiently to his teammates.

 

Dwayne Pierce 6-5, Forward, Christ the King High School, Real Skills, Class of 2024 - A forward that has plenty of strength and can attack in transition. Uses his build to absorb contact and can get into the lane and score easily. Is able to put the ball on the floor and can get down court with no problem.

 

Mouhamed Dioubate 6-8. Forward, Putnam Science Academy, Real Skills, Class of 2023 - A forward that has a lot of versatility and has great footwork when on the offensive end of the floor. Has the ability to get to the basket, due to his ability to put the ball on the floor and. Has a knack for shooting from the perimeter. Is able to get rebounds and can hold his own on the floor.

 

Daryl Victory, Jr 5-8, Point Guard, Cardinal Hayes High School, Milbank Flyers, Class of 2022 - A guard that has plenty of heart on the court and is always ready to take on any challenge. Is able to distribute the ball to his teammates when they are in the right situations to receive the ball. Is very fearless when driving to the basket and doesn’t mind absorbing contact as he is like to get the ball in the basket.

 

Ziare Wells 6-6, Shooting Guard, St. Benedict’s Preparatory High School (NJ), Milbank Flyers, Class of 2022 - A guard that is explosive and has the ability to score in bunches. Has the ability to get downcourt easily and can attack the basket and can hurt the defense when left unguarded. Has superb athleticism when on both ends of the court.

 

Dominick Barlow, 6-9, Forward, Bridgton Academy (ME), Milbank Flyers, Class of 2022 -A forward that is strong when in the low post on offense and can block shots on the defensive end. Has the ability to play above the rim and has plenty of finesse when handling the ball. Is always ready to get open so that he can drive to the basket.

 

Tarique Foster 6-8, Forward, Cardinal Hayes High School, Milbank Flyers, Class of 2022 - A forward that has a long wingspan and has the ability to get rebounds on the court. Despite his large frame, he is able to attack the lane.  Is a player that can also shoot from the perimeter. Has the ability to see the floor well and can pass the ball to a streaking teammate that is going to the basket.

 

Brandon Williams 6-7, Forward, Christ the King High School, United Brooklyn, Class of 2023 - A forward that is able to make plays in transition and can put the ball on the floor. Has plenty of toughness and finds various ways to score at all times. Is a solid rebounder that can hold his own in the post area. Has the ability to shoot from the perimeter.

 

Ty-laur Johnson 6-0, Point Guard, St. Benedict’s Preparatory School (NJ), United Brooklyn, Class of 2023 - A guard that has a penchant for getting out on the break and getting to the basket. Has the ability to shoot from long range, especially if left unguarded. Has good hands that allow him to get steals and get downcourt easily.

 

Jayden Pierre 6-2, Point Guard, Long Island Lutheran High School, United Brooklyn, Class of 2022 - A guard that has the ability to bring the ball up and can create for himself and take over a game offensively. Has the ability to shoot from long range. Has a lot of quickness and is able to attack the basket.

 

Shawn Fulcher 5-11, Point Guard, Scotland Prep School (PA), United Brooklyn, Class of 2022 - Fulcher is a guard that has a penchant for scoring in transition and will find multiple ways to get to the basket. Is a tremendous defender and finds ways to stay with the opposing player. Has a smooth handle when dribbling and possesses a jumper that he loves to use at the top of the key.

 

Tyliek Weeks 6-7, Forward, South Shore High School, United Brooklyn, Class of 2022 - A forward that is a low-post presence that has a large frame and has good hands, which he uses to snare rebounds. Looks to block shots on defense and uses his strength to hold his own in the paint. Is able to muscle his way into the paint and can score easily.
