2021-22 Monsignor McClancy High Roster Preview

Monsignor McClancy Memorial High competes in the very competitive and balanced Catholic High School Athletic Association A Division.  Anthony Olszewski, a 2001 graduate of the school, is the head coach. McClancy is in the midst of a youth movement with limited varsity experience coming back this year after the truncated Covid19 season. They are a hungry, focused and scrappy group looking to make some noise this year.

 

The following are the anticipated varsity players for 2021-22:

 

Chris Cardozo (2023) 5’7 - Fast, tough disruptor on defense. Endless energy.


Matthew Cipri (2023) 5’7 - Good outside shooter. Utilizes the floater very well. Worked on his body this summer to get stronger.


River Cuevas (2023) 6’0 - Slasher, tough minded. Good rebounder. Improving shooter and ball handler. Good finisher.


Jaiden Gaston (2024) 5’10 - Excellent shooter. Shows a great pace to his game. Handles the ball well. Can initiate the offense.  Has improved his athleticism and ability to get to the rim. Good rebounder in traffic for a guard.


William Heredia Jr. (2023) 5’9 - Quick, good defender, gets to the rim. Distributes pretty well.


George Kyriakopoulos (2023) 6’4 - Great size, strength. Run very well for a guy his size. Huge soft hands.  Working on rebounding out of his area a little more. Soft touch around the hoop. One of the best baseball prospects in the state of New York.


Gabriel Mazariegos (2022) 6’1 - Lankly, athletic. Jack of all trades. Can handle. Knockdown shooter from the corners.


Nicholas Rodriguez (2023) 5’9 - Tenacious defender, fast. Solid shooter and ball handler. Was starting shortstop on JV baseball Brooklyn Queens Championship team.


Sean Serrano (2022) 5’11 - Tenacious defender, good ballhandler. True leader by his actions on the court. Scholarship level baseball player. Nobody works harder.


Aldin Skrijelj (2023) 5’11 - Automatic from 15 feet and in. Has begun extending his shooting range to the 3 point line.  Rebounder for an undersized forward. Very good passer.


Carlos Urena (2024) 5’9 - Good shooter. Terrific finisher. Plays without fear. Highly competitive. Growing into role of being able to initiate the offense. Has a good feel for the game, making the right reads and passes. Improving defender.


William Wood (2023) 5’10 - Knockdown shooter. No nonsense approach. Goes about his business. Deadly range when his feet are set. Improving defender and ball handler. Good knowledge of the game. 4.0 gpa.

James Rosales (2024) 5’7 - Shifty guard. Excellent at getting to the rim and finishing. Solid outside shooter. Working on defensive technique and and responsibilities in the half court. Great anticipation in the passing lanes.


Darius Mihai (2024) 5’11 - Excellent shooter form deep. Big growth spurt over the summer. Working on ball handling and physicality on defensive end of floor.


Marcus Maxwell-Grimes (2025) 6’0 - Long Lanky. Growth Spurt over the summer. Very good outside shooter. Understands pace of play . Doesn’t need much room to get his shot off. Working on his
