Andre “Dre” Edwards is a valuable community member and a staple in the Long Island tapestry of AAU basketball. He has been instrumental in giving countless student-athletes the platform to show off their basketball powers and procuring scholarships to college. Dre has been the guy that not only got his student-athletes the looks from the college coaches, he also took them there in his own car on his time to make sure things were taken care of. He did all of this as a coach at Wyandanch High and St John the Baptist High and as the founder of Team Underrated Basketball Academy. Team Underrated is one of long Island Longest running independent AAU/Travel programs in existence today.

This season Dre Edwards is new director and owner of the Shots with Patience Prep mens basketball program. It is a sports-specific prep school located on Long Island. The student athletes take college-level courses and the basketball team plays against other high level prep schools such as Olympic Prep and Scotland Campus. They are currently 2-0 in North American Cup Session Association play. His staff includes David Moses, Associate Head Coach; Cam Winston, Assistant Coach; Daniel Pierrot, Assistant Coach; and Payton Johnson, Assistant Coach.

Below are the student-athletes currently in the basketball program:

Shamell Ponds (2022), Brooklyn, Thomas Jefferson High (2021), 5’10 point guard - @shaaponds is a scoring, crafty combo guard. He gets to the line, can shoot the 3, can defend 1-2, and passes the ball well.

Jerheim Elder (2022), Leaventile (Trinidad and Tobago), Layton Christian Academy (2021) 6’4 shooting guard, (6’8 wingspan) - @ja_buckets4 is an athletic wing that plays above the rim, great defender in the passing lanes and rebounds very well.

Chris Boothe (2022) Farmingville NY, Sachem East High (2020) - @_boothee is a 6’5 shooting guard who has a 6’7 wing span. He is left handed and has a motor. He shoots the ball very well from 3pt range and has a good mid-range game.  He creates for his teammates, is very athletic and rebounds well for his size.

Justin Norman (2022) Freeport High (2021) 5’10 guard - @jusgotgame is a facilitator looking to push the tempo and set guys up. He gets a lot of paint touches which allows his teammates easy baskets. Justin is very good shooter that needs to look for his shot more. He shoots over 85% from the line. When he’s on the court, the team defense is led by him/ a very good on-the-ball defender. 3.7 gpa

Tayron Bangs (2022) Bay Shore High (2021), 5’9 point guard - @tdigzz_ is the team’s best shooter. He’s 18/36 on the season from 3pt range. Quick, grinding guard that plays hard on every play. Now learning how to be a point guard and better on the ball defender. 3.9 gpa

Eric Hysaw (2022) Harlem, NY, HS of Teaching & Profession (2021) 5’9 guard - @ejsoraw is a humble leader that is starting to be more aggressive with his play. He can play the 2 guard position, and he gets to the line. Eric has good basketball IQ and is a great team guy!

Tyrece Thompson (2022) Camperdown High, Jamaica (2021), 6’8 power-forward/center - @tyrece_thompson is a solid and athletic post player. He is a very active body in the post. He is averaging a double-double so far this season. He also moves well on the perimeter in space. Received an offer from D2 Allen University.

Sharif Parks (2022) Rochdale Village, John Adams High (2021) 6’8 forward with a 6’10 wingspan. @reefb__ is an athletic stretch 4, who can also play the 3. He can handle and put the ball on the floor, shoots the 3, and he runs the floor well. He is a good rebounder who can defend out on the perimeter on a guard and 1-5. Over his most recent three games, he’s averaged a double-double and shot 62% from the field.

Marvin Longmore (2022) Erasmus Hall (2021) 6’1 guard – Longmore can play 1-3 and defend all 5 positions, because of his football body and experience. Coach Edwards calls him “The HEART, SOUL, DAWG, ENFORCER of our team and MOST IMPROVED.” What Marvin does well is get to the line, because of his aggressiveness to attack the rim. He can post him up vs small guards or forwards. Marvin is only 6’1, but has the tremendous athleticism which makes him play as if he is 6’6. Marvin is improving with his shooting, and getting more confident at the free throw line. Marvin is a stat stuffer: 11.5ppg, 7rpg, 4asp and 2.5spg. For the team, he is currently 3rd in points, 2nd in rebounds, 2nd in assists, 1st in steals and 1st in FT attempts.

Blake Williams (2022) Mentone Grammar School (Austrailia) 6’7 forward - Williams is projected to play at the D1-D2 level. He handles and is a slasher, a 3pt shooter and a great rebounder. Coach Edwards and his staff are looking forward to helping his growth as a basketball player.

Todd Rochelle (2022) Brooklyn, St Francis Prep (2021) - @_toddr - is already committed to D1 Bryant University. Rochelle is SWP’s Team Captain and is averaging 20.1 ppg 6.6 rpg 5.8 apg and 2.1 spg. He recorded the program’s 1st Triple double in a game vs Prestige Prep and the highest single game points record with 35 against Middle GA Prep. He is shooting 42.5% 3pt, 80% from the line. A smooth, crafty athletic lefty who gets SWP going. A great leader and ultimate competitor.
