2022 NY vs. NJ Catholic Showcase Standouts

On January 22nd, RecruitTheBronx.com made it to the Hynes Athletic Center on the campus of Iona College in New Rochelle, New York for the NY vs. NJ Catholic High School Showcase This event featured five games filled with ten of the premier Catholic high school teams in the tri-state area. In all five games, there were plenty of players that stood out. Here are the standouts from all five games:

 

Brandon Stores, Jr. 6-4, Forward, St. Raymond High School, Class of 2025 -A forward that is very strong and agile and has great footwork on the floor. Has plenty of versatility and loves to drive when he has the ball in his hands. Has a penchant for scoring at will and can absorb contact when going up for a basket.

 

Isaiah Philbert 6-1, Shooting Guard, St. Raymond High School, Class of 2022 - Has a penchant for scoring and getting his shots off when his team needs it most. Is able to get down the court easily and is able to get past his defender off the dribble. When unguarded, he can he do plenty of damage when on the offensive end.

 

Ahmir Moore 6-1, Point Guard, St. Raymond High School, Class of 2023 - A guard that has a penchant for having great playmaking ability. Is able to create for himself off the dribble.  Has plenty of speed and quickness that aids in him getting to the basket with n wear, Has the ability to make great passes when on the offensive end,

 

Elijah Castillo 6-2, Shooting Guard, St. Raymond High School, Class of 2022 - A guard that makes powerful moves to the basket and is always able to absorb contact when going up for two. Has plenty of strength and is fearless when on the floor. Makes it his mission to give 100% effort when on the floor.

 

RJ Greene 6-5, Small Forward, Iona Preparatory School, Class of 2022 - A forward that is able to do many things on the floor. Is a pure scoring threat when on the court and is able to attack the glass and has a penchant to play big in the low post. Is very strong and is fearless on both ends of the court.

 

Bangaly Berete 6-4, Shooting Guard, Iona Preparatory School, Class of 2023 - A guard that has plenty of versatility when on the court. Uses his length to stay in front of his man when on the defensive end. Is able to get downcourt and put the ball on the floor efficiently and is good at creating for himself.

 

Blaise New 5-10, Point Guard, Iona Preparatory School, Class of 2023 - A guard that has excellent court vision and can speed up the tempo or slow it down, depending on the type of game it is looking like. Is the type of player that can get his teammates involved at all times. Is fearless when driving into the basket.

 

Devin Vanterpool 6-3, Shooting Guard, Christ the King High School, Class of 2023 - A guard that has a complete game, as he is the one that draws plenty of attention for his scoring prowess when he’s on the floor. Is able to slice and dice past the defense when he’s driving towards the basket. Is a player that can score in multiple ways, including getting his shot off from the perimeter.

 

Jaylin Lewis 6-3, Shooting Guard, Christ the King High School, Class of 2023 - A guard that can has good court vision and is able to move around off the ball. Loves to drive to the basket and can attack the glass for the rebound. Has good size and skill for his position.

 

Brandon Williams 6-7, Forward, Christ the King High School, Class of 2023 - A forward that is strong and agile and has the ability to be creative on the floor. Is very skilled as he is able to put the ball on the floor. Has a nice shooting touch and loves to drive to the basket.

 

Ian Jackson 6-4, Shooting Guard, Cardinal Hayes High School, Class of 2024 - A guard that is able to make his presence felt with his effortless play on the floor. Has a penchant on getting to the basket. Has the ability to shoot from long range and is able to let his game come to him. Is able to make big plays, especially when he’s able to play above the rim.

 

Tobe Awaka 6-8. Forward, Cardinal Hayes High School, Class of 2022 - A forward that is a powerful force when he is on the floor. Is able to dominate in the low post on the defensive end. Is able to power his way up for a layup or a dunk on the offensive end. His physical nature aids in him getting blocks and rebounds.

 

Elijah Moore 6-4, Shooting Guard, Cardinal Hayes High School, Class of 2024 - A guard that has the ability to be a long-range threat from the three-point line. Is able to find many ways to get open on the perimeter so that he can get his shot off. Is fearless when going into the lane for a layup.

 

Darrell Victory 5-9, Point Guard, Cardinal Hayes High School, Class of 2022 - A guard that has a penchant for playing bigger than his height. Is able to control his team’s tempo when they’re on the break and makes sure his teammates are getting the right passes at the right moments. His quickness helps him get to the basket with ease.

 

Tarique Foster 6-7, Forward, Cardinal Hayes High School, Class of 2022 - A forward with a long wingspan and good hands that helps him obtain well when it comes to getting rebounds and getting blocks. Knows how to play above the rim & can also shoot from the perimeter.

 

Johnuel Fland 6-2, Point Guard Archbishop Stepinac High School, Class of 2024 - A guard that has a penchant for helping his teammates get better when on the floor. Knows when and where his teammates are going to hit them with great passes. Has the ability to drive within the lane or shoot ruin three.

 

Samuel Gibbs 6-3, Shooting Guard, Archbishop Stepinac High School, Class of 2022 - A guard that has a penchant for making plays that will help his team when on the floor. Has the opportunity to create for himself off the dribble and can attack the lane with precision. Is able to shoot from long range and can be tough to stop when open.

 

Benjamin Lyttle 6-5, Small Forward, Archbishop Stepinac High School, Class of 2023 - A swing man that is able to play big when on the floor and is always hustling for the ball and can obtain rebounds with ease. Is always ready to go after the ball when the opportunity presents itself. Can get to the basket by creating for himself & loves to get tap-ins.

 

Dylan Harper, 6-5, Shooting Guard, Don Bosco Preparatory High School (NJ), Class of 2024 - A guard that is able to do plenty on the floor for his team. Has the ability to get rebounds and go up for baskets with ease. Is able to use his athleticism when he goes up for a dunk. Loves to create for himself off the dribble & can shoot from long range.

 

Elijah Gertrude, 6-4, Shooting Guard, Hudson Catholic High School (NJ), Class of 2023 - A guard that has a lot of scoring ability. When going to the basket, he is fearless when going up to the cup. Is able to show off his athleticism by playing above the rim. Can shoot from three-point range, especially when left open.
