2022 PSAL Borough Championships - Top Performers

On Saturday,February 19, RecruitTheBronx.com got ourselves to Achievement First High School in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn for the PSAL Borough Championships, in which teams from every borough would compete for a title. On this date, we got to see the tournament finalists from Brooklyn, Queens and The Bronx. Below are the standouts from the games that we caught:
Max Ragusa 6-0, Point Guard, South Shore High School, Class of 2022 - A guard with plenty of quickness and a knack for playing defense. Has the ability to take clutch shots for his team when needed. Is the team’s leader that will help encourage his teammates to do well on the floor and push them to succeed. Is good at setting his teammates up with passes that put them in position to score everytime.
Kyrone Alexander 6-5, Forward, South Shore High School, Class of 2023 - A forward with great size and athleticism, especially on the low block. Finds ways to use his physicality in the paint area, so that he can establish his presence. Is able to go up for rebounds on both ends of the court and snare them for an offensive rebound or to get a putback layup.
Tylik Weeks 6-6, Forward, South Shore High School, Class of 2022 - A forward that has great ball handling skills and great footwork. Has a nice shooting touch and is able to absorb contact and get fouled in order to get to the free throw line. Uses his large frame to establish his presence on the low block.
Davin Francis 6-5, Shooting Guard, South Shore High School, Class of 2023 - A guard that has plenty of size, but excellent skills on the perimeter. Is a player that can tower over smaller guards and can power his way past them. Has the ability to create for himself and play above the rim.
Jarrett Dingle 6-2, Point Guard, South Shore High School, Class of 2023 - A guard that has the ability to switch up speeds when he has the ball in his hands. Is able to facilitate the ball to his teammates & makes sure that they get the ball when needed. Has the ability to see the floor & take good shots when he has the opportunity.
Taj Bryant 6-2, Point Guard, Eagle Academy II, Class of 2024 - A guard that has the ability to make a huge impact on the game. Has a good shooting touch from the outside as he took plenty of shots with great intentions. Has the ability to get steals and turn them into offensive possessions for his team. Knows when to attack and drive to the basket.
Eric Acker 6-1, Shooting Guard, Eagle Academy II, Class of 2023 - A guard that has a penchant for scoring in transition. When given the opportunity to shoot from long range, he uses it to the best of his ability and makes the most of it. Is known for stepping up in clutch moments.
Treshawn Sheppard 6-6, Forward, Eagle Academy II, Class of 2023 - A forward that is solid and can do many things on both ends of the floor. Is very versatile, as he can put the ball on the floor and run in transition. Is always alert and able to get to the boards to get a rebound.
Angel Espejo 6-1, Shooting Guard, Eagle Academy II, Class of 2024 - A guard that is able to find multiple ways to get open on the floor. When he’s got the ball, he is able to shoot from deep, especially when left open. Knows when to crash the boards for rebounds and is a valued asset to his team.
Jaquel Morris 6-8, Forward, Eagle Academy II, Class of 2022 - A forward that is the anchor to the team’s defense, as he is counted on to neutralize the opposition with his good hands & ability to block shots. When on the boards, he is able to pull down rebounds with authority. When going to the basket, he is able to muscle his way into the paint.
Eddie Munyak 6-0, Shooting Guard, Eagle Academy II, Class of 2023 - A guard that is able to find many ways to be effective on the floor. When left unguarded on the perimeter, he has the ability to bury a team with his shooting. Is able to move around the floor off the ball.
Miguel Pineda 5-11, Point Guard, Francis Lewis High School, Class of 2022 - A guard that has the ability to facilitate to his teammates and is able to get his teammates the ball on the offensive end. Is able to run the team efficiently and is the engine that gets his team going every time he’s on the floor. Is able to shoot from long range and is able to attack when going to the basket.
Stephon Vergara 5-11, Shooting Guard, Francis Lewis High School, Class of 2022 - A guard that loves to play defense and is always looking to get the ball in his hands at all times. Is very deceptive on offense and is able to slice and dice through defenders to get to the basket. Is able to get his shot off efficiently and loves to shoot from long range.
Leverson Tulien 6-5, Forward, Campus Magnet High School, Class of 2022 - A forward that is able to make big plays when he’s on the floor and can make plenty of big plays for his teammates. Is able to obtain rebounds when he’s in the low post and can hold his own when going up for a basket. Is very versatile, as he is able to put the ball on the floor and drive to the basket.
James Wenzel 6-1, Shooting Guard, Campus Magnet High School, Class of 2023 -A guard that is very athletic and can make his presence felt when going up for a rebound. Has plenty of grit and toughness and can play big when he has to. Is able to slice and dice to the basket. Has a knack for shooting from the perimeter or from long range.
Khalil Black 6-1, Shooting Guard, Campus Magnet High School, Class of 2023 - A guard that has a slick handle and can make plenty of plays whenever he’s on the floor. Is able to get his shot off efficiently and is able to get to the basket with ease. Is able to create his shot off the dribble and has a nice shooting touch.
Asa Kone 6-8, Forward, Eagle Academy I, Class of 2022 - A forward that is able to establish his presence on the floor when he’s in the low post. Has a great wingspan and can block shots and snare rebounds every time he’s on the defensive end. Is able to dominate on the offensive end by playing above the rim and has a nice hook shot on the offensive end.
Jaden Zimmerman 6-2, Shooting Guard, Eagle Academy I, Class of 2024 - A guard that loves to take on defenders and is always a player that rises to the occasion when meeting up with a big challenge. Is a player that loves to drive to the basket and can go to the basket with strength and is able to draw fouls easily. Is fearless when going to the basket and can make big shots in clutch moments, which include jumpers.
Harry Bonilla 5-10, Shooting Guard, James Monroe Campus, Class of 2022 - A guard that has the ability to make big plays when in the game. Has a penchant for making threes, which is his speciality. Is able to attack in transition and is fearless when driving to the basket. Has good hands, which aid in him getting steals and running down court to the other end.
Donzell Hamilton 6-0, Shooting Guard, James Monroe Campus, Class of 2023 - A guard that is able is known for making big shots, including threes from long range. Despite his diminutive frame, he is fearless when going to the basket. Is a ball-dominant guard that can make things happen, either when it comes to scoring or facilitating to his teammates.
Daouda Cisse 6-7, Forward, James Monroe Campus, Class of 2023 - A forward that is a strong presence in the low post and can absorb contact when in the low post. Is able to go up to the glass to rebound every time and is able to use his athleticism when going to the rim. Is a good finisher at the basket and is counted on to be his team’s interior presence.
