2022 CHSAA Quarterfinals Top Performers

On Sunday afternoon, March 6, RecruitTheBronx.com made it to the David S. Mack Exhibition Complex on the campus of Hofstra University in Hempstead, Long Island, for the CHSAA AA Quarterfinals. We saw three of the four games played on that day.


The semifinals will be played on Wednesday and the championship game will be played on Friday night. The semifinals and the finals, will also take place at Hofstra. Here are the standouts from the quarterfinal games:


Darrell Victory 5-9, Point Guard, Cardinal Hayes High School, Class of 2022 - A guard that has a penchant for setting up his teammates with good passes and is able to be a great facilitator on the court. Likes to get to the basket with ease and is able to create for himself and uses his speed to get past the opposition. Is able to stay with his man at all times.


Ian Jackson 6-6, Shooting Guard, Cardinal Hayes High School, Class of 2024 - A guard that is always able to make big plays when on the court. Has a knack for shooting from long range and has a penchant for getting his shot off when he has the ball in his hands. Is able to play above the rim, especially when the lane is open.


Tobe Awaka 6-8, Forward, Cardinal Hayes High School, Class of 2022 - A forward that is a force in the low post and someone that is able to make great plays on the offensive end. Is the team’s defensive anchor, as he is able to help them with blocked shots & key rebounds. Does not hesitate to put the ball on the floor when he has the chance to dribble on the offensive end.


Dwayne Pierce 6-6, Shooting Guard, Christ the King High School, Class of 2024 - A guard that is great at creating for himself with his shot selection and is solid at finding ways to get to the basket. Is a player that looks to score every time he has the ball. Has a nice shooting stroke that is very fluid every time. Is able to obtain rebounds and can run on the fast break.


Brandon Williams 6-9, Forward, Christ the King High School, Class of 2023 - A forward that is a workhorse in the low post and is a player that his team turns to when they need a key rebound. Is able to put the ball on the floor and likes to drive to the basket. Is fearless when he goes to the basket to score


Devin Vanterpool 6-4, Shooting Guard, Christ the King High School, Class of 2023 - A guard that has the ability to slice to the basket and is able to absorb contact every time. Is a guard that has a good shot selection when on the perimeter. Has a good penchant for hitting teammates with passes that could potentially lead to baskets.


Qinfang Pang 6-9, Forward, Christ the King High School, Class of 2024 - A forward that has a good body for someone at the four position and is very skilled when on the court. Is able to hold his own in the post area, but can also shoot from the perimeter and from long range. Has a penchant for putting the ball on the floor and posting up on smaller defenders.


Luke Perry 6-1, Point Guard, Christ the King High School, Class of 2022 -A guard that’s small and quick and has a nice release on his shot. Is able to run an offense efficiently when in the game and is able to see the floor well. Is fearless when launching his shots and when left open, his shot can be damaging to the opposition.


Johnuel Fland 6-2, Point Guard, Archbishop Stepinac High School, Class of 2024 - A guard that has the ability to make his presence felt every time he steps on the floor. Along with being a sold point guard, he is capable of taking over a game with his shooting ability. Is able to facilitate to his teammates and can ensure that they’re in the right positions to score.


Isaiah Alexander 6-7, Forward, Archbishop Stepinac High School, Class of 2022 - A forward that is able to put the ball on the floor and is able to get on the down court with quickness and loves to run on the fast break. Is able to drive to the hole with ease and showcases his athleticism superbly. Finds ways to get rebounds in the low posrt area at all times.


Jacob Hogarth 6-9, Forward, Archbishop Stepinac High School, Class of 2024 - A forward that has plenty of strength and is able to play above the rim. Is able to to maintain his presence in the low post, as he has great hands that help him obtain rebounds every time he goes up to get the ball. Has a great ability to block shots when on the defensive end.


Danny Carbuccia 6-0, Point Guard, Archbishop Stepinac High School, Class of 2025 - A guard that has a penchant for bringing the ball up on the perimeter and is able to see where his teammates are moving in order to find them at the right spots. Is a guard that has the ability to shoot from long range and is able to drive to the basket with ease.


Samuel Gibbs 6-3, Shooting Guard, Archbishop Stepinac High School, Class of 2022 - A guard that has the ability to find a way to get to the basket and has the ability to make big plays on the court. Is fearless when going to the lane at all times, but his speciality is shooting from three-point range. When left open, he is able to shoot the lights out from the corner.


Tai Turnage 5-10, Point Guard, St. Raymond High School, Class of 2025 - A guard that has a penchant for helping his team when he is on the floor. Has the ability to ste his teammates up with passes so that they can be in the right position to score. Is able to shoot from long range and is able to drive to the basket with fearlessness.


Brandon Stores Jr 6’4, Forward, St. Raymond High School, Class of 2025 - A forward that is able to play the two and three position and plays smoothly on the floor. Has the ability to go to the basket with strength at all times. Is a player that goes up to get rebounds and has good hands, which aid in him blocking shots.


Tafari Joseph, 6-3, Forward, St. Raymond High School, Class of 2022 - A forward that has the ability to make his presence felt in small ways when he is on the floor at all times. Is able to get steals and can get down the court with ease. Is able to get loose balls and is able to get to the basket and score.


Anthony Russo 6-0, Shooting Guard, Holy Cross High School, Class of 2022 - A guard that has the ability to find ways to get open on the floor in order for him to get his shot off from the corner. Has a nice shooting stroke from the corner, but also has the ability to drive to the basket fearlessly and score. Is able to make his presence felt with his shooting and his scoring prowess.


Tyler Castro 6-3, Shooting Guard, Holy Cross High School, Class of 2023 - A guard that has the ability to make big plays when on the floor. Is a great spot-up shooter and has the ability to drive to the basket. Is good at seeing the floor and reading his defender so that when he knows when to take the right shot. Has the ability to get to the basket with strength and can absorb physical contact when going up for two.


Christian Jeffrey 6-2, Shooting Guard, Bishop Loughlin High School, Class of 2024 - A guard that has the ability to create for himself and can make great plays every time on the floor. Has the ability to make floaters, but also has great court awareness. Has a good shot from the perimeter & loves to drive to the basket.


Daye Kaba 6-5, Forward, Bishop Loughlin High School, Class of 2024 - A guard that has the ability to drive to the basket with ease and can make great plays when on the floor. Is able to run down court easily and is able to get rebounds when in the post area. Has plenty of explosiveness in his game.


Jaream Eason 6-3, Forward, Bishop Loughlin High School, Class of 2022 -A forward that is able to move smoothly in the low post. Has the ability to obtain rebounds when in the low post and has superb footwork. His footwork allows him to score easily, as he is able to muscle his way into the post and lay the ball up.
