2022 Battle in the Apple Top Performers

On May 20 and 21, RecruitTheBronx.com made it to both Monsignor McClancy High School in East Elmhurst, Queens and St. John’s Prep High School in Astoria, Queens, for the Battle in the Apple Classic. This is a showcase event put together by NBA player Danny Green and Gold Levels Sports & Entertainment. A few of New York’s best AAU teams came to compete. The event also included Strive for Greatness, a Nike-sponsored program based out of California, that was created by NBA superstar LeBron James. Here are the standouts from the event:

 

Tai Turnage 5-10, Point Guard, St. Raymond High School, New York Gauchos, Class of 2025 - A guard that has the ability to put on a great show when the lights are on him. Is able to get to the basket with ease and finds ways to get his teammates the ball with ease. Has the ability to score in bunches.

 

Brandon Stores, Jr 6-4, Forward, St. Raymond High School, New York Gauchos, Class of 2025 - A forward that is very versatile on the offensive end and uses his strength to the advantage to the low post. Is able to absorb physical contact at the basket in order to draw fouls in order to get to the free throw line. Has the ability to put the ball on the floor and loves to drive to the basket.

 

Hason Rawlins, 6-4, Shooting Guard, Nazareth High School, New York Gauchos, Class of 2025 - A guard that is very explosive and is able to create for himself off the dribble and is able to make plays on the floor. Has the ability to use his quickness to get downcourt with ease. Is able to use his athleticism to his advantage, especially when going to the rim for a dunk.

 

Mike Spisto 5-8 Point Guard, St. Peter’s High School, Black Ops, Class of 2024 - A guard with great playmaking ability when on the floor. Has the ability to get past his defender and can make his presence felt with his guard skills. Has the ability to shoot from long range. Has plenty of quickness when going down court.

 

Taj Bryant 6-2, Point Guard, Eagle Academy II, Black Ops, Class of 2024 - A guard that has the ability to be a floor leader when on the court. Has a penchant for getting past his defender easily and is able to set his teammates up for baskets at all times. Is a great finisher at the basket and is able to absorb contact when going to the hole. Has a nice arc on his jumpshot.

 

Dylan Harper 6-4, Shooting Guard, Don Bosco Preparatory School (NJ), New York Rens 16’s, Class of 2024 - A guard that has the ability to make an impact on the game whenever he is on the floor. Showcases his athleticism whenever he goes up to dunk. Has the ability to finish at the basket and uses his first step to get to the hole.

 

Dwayne Pierce 6-6, Shooting Guard, Christ the King High School, New York Rens 16’s, Class of 2024 - A guard that has the ability to do good things when on the court. Has a penchant for getting his shot off efficiently and can drive to the basket. Uses his strength to power his way to the basket whenever he is driving. Is fearless when going up to the basket.

 

Jaiden Toscano-Glover 6-6, Shooting Guard, Roselle Catholic High School (NJ), New York Rens 16’s, Class of 2024 - A guard that has plenty of speed in his game and does not hesitate to use it at all times. Has a penchant for going up strong when attacking the basket and is great at using his athleticism. Has a nice shooting stroke from three-point range.

 

Qinfang Pang 6-8, Forward, Christ the King High School, New York Rens 16’s, Class of 2024 - A forward that has plenty of size and versatility. When putting the ball on the floor, he has a penchant for creating for himself off the dribble. Has the ability to see the floor and has a nice shooting stroke from long range. Has great defensive tendencies, as he is able to obtain steals and block shots.

 

Tyler Betsey 6-7, Forward, St. Thomas More School, New York Rens 16’s, Class of 2024 -A forward that has plenty of size and is able to make an impact whenever he’s not scoring. Is able to block shots and get rebounds whenever he’s in the low post. Is a smart player that knows where to be at whenever he’s on the floor.

 

Ty-laur Johnson 6-0, St. Benedict’s Preparatory School (NJ), New York Rens 17’s, Class of 2023 - A guard that has the ability to score in bunches and can take over a game when the opportunity presents itself. Is able to attack when going to the hole and can create for himself off the dribble. Does not hesitate to shoot jumpers from three-point range or from the top of the key.

 

Papa Kante, 6-10, Forward, South Kent School New York Rens, Class of 2023 - A forward that is solid every time he gets on the floor and is able to make his presence felt in the low post. Has a penchant for blocking the opposition’s shot and can intimidate the person trying to score into making bad shots. Has the ability to use his athleticism when going to the rim.

 

Simeon Wilcher, 6-3, Shooting Guard, Roselle Catholic High Scholl (NJ), New York Rens, Class of 2023 - A guard that has the ability to use his skill and his scoring ability to give his team a big advantage when he’s on the floor. Is able to get to the rim easily and always looks to draw fouls. Has a nice shooting stroke from outside.

 

Tarique Foster 6-7, Forward, Cardinal Hayes High School, Wiz Kids, Class of 2023 - A forward that has the ability to obtain rebounds and attack the glass whenever he’s on the floor. Knows how to attack the rim and can put the ball on the floor. Has the ability to shoot from the perimeter and has a nice shooting stroke. ** Plans to do a postgraduate year at a prep school. **

 

Dionte Johnson 6-1, Guard, The Patrick School (NJ), Wiz Kids, Class of 2023 - A guard that has a great playmaking ability and an eye for making sure that his teammates are in the right time. Is a player that likes to score in multiple ways. Likes to get to the basket with ease and can shoot from the perimeter.

 

Jarrett Dingle 6-2, Point Guard, South Shore High School, Riverside Church 17’s, Class of 2023 - A guard that has a good eye for putting his teammates in position to score at all times. Is very quick and is able to run on the fast break. Is able to get to the basket and is a good finisher at the cup. Is fearless when going to the hole.

 

Jalen Lyn 6-2, Shooting Guard, Mount St. Michael Academy, Riverside Church 17’s, Class of 2023 - A guard that has the ability to make his presence felt when on the court. Is able to get downcourt easily and has plenty of athleticism, as he is able to get to the rim. Loves to drive to the basket and finds ways to get to the free-throw line.

 

Jaden Kempson 6-1, Shooting Guard, Thomas Jefferson High School, New Heights, Class of 2023 - A guard that is quick and deceptive and finds ways to drive to the basket. Is able to play off the ball and can get free for passes. Has a nice shooting touch from the perimeter & possesses plenty of athleticism when he goes to the rim.
