2022 NY vs. NY Week 1

On June 21, RecruitTheBronx got to the Parque de Los Niños Playground in The Bronx for the first week of the NY vs. NY tournament. This event features teams from six of New York City’s Nike-sponsored tournaments, such as Dyckman (Manhattan), West 4th Street (Manhattan), Tri-State (Manhattan), Watson (The Bronx), Lincoln Park (Queens) and Gersh Park (Brooklyn).

 

Here are the standouts from that evening’s event:

 

Treshawn Sheppard 6-6, Forward, Eagle Academy II, West 4th Street, Class of 2023 - A forward this strong and agile and uses his power to make his presence felt on the floor. Has the ability to absorb contact when in the post and is a great finisher at the rim when going up to score. Makes it his mission to fight for rebounds every time he is in the low post.

 

Preston Edmead 5-10, Point Guard, Deer Park High School, West 4th Street, Class of 2024 - A guard that has plenty of quickness and has a good sense of court vision every time he is on the floor. Is very good at getting to the basket and has the ability to get his shot off with a nice release. Although of diminutive stature and is able to finish at the basket. Is able to pass the ball to his teammates and makes sure that they can score.

 

Phil Grant Jr. 6-5, Shooting Guard, Tennessee Prep Academy (TN) West 4th Street, Class of 2023 - A guard that has the ability to make his presence felt every time he’s on the floor with his scoring. When going to the basket, he exudes plenty of confidence and toughness and is able to get his shot off with ease, especially from three-point range. Is able to drive to the basket off the dribble and is fearless when it comes to attacking the basket.

 

Brandon Gardner 6-7, Forward, Word of God Christian Academy (LA), West 4th Street, Class of 2023 - A forward that has the ability to be a dominant presence on the floor. Uses his strength to hold his own in the low post. Is a good defender that has a long wingspan and is able to deflect the ball on the defensive end. Has the ability to finish strong at the rim and is good for getting to the free-throw line.

 

Elijah Moore 6-4, Shooting Guard, Cardinal Hayes High School, Tri-State, Class of 2024 - A guard that has a penchant for taking over games with his scoring ability. Has the ability to show off his athleticism and loves to drive to the basket at all times and is a good finisher at the rim. Is great at getting his shot off with ease and loves to shoot from long range.

 

TJ Robinson, 6-2, Point Guard, Bishop Walsh School (MD), Tri-State, Class of 2024 - A guard that has the ability to make his team run efficiently every time he is on the floor. Is able to speed up or slow down his team’s tempo whenever he’s int he game. Has plenty of confidence when taking his shot and is able to create for himself off the dribble.

 

Brandon Williams 6-8, Forward, Christ the King High School, Dyckman, Class of 2023 - A forward that has the ability to be a presence on both ends of the floor. Is very skilled at his size and is able to post up the opposition and put the ball on the floor. Has great hands and is able to obtain rebounds and block shots at all times. Is great at getting his shot off on the perimeter.

 

Tai Turnage 5-10, Point Guard, St. Raymond High School, Dyckman, Class of 2025 - A guard that has the ability to make his presence felt on the floor with his strong play. Even when he is not scoring, he is able to use his toughness and is willing to go in the paint and obtain rebounds when he’s in the game. Is still able to dish off the ball to his teammates and help his teammates score.

 

Taj Bryant 6-2, Point Guard, Eagle Academy II, Gersh Park, Class of 2024 - A guard that is good at taking on anyone at any moment on the court. Has the ability to drive to the basket and can run on the fast break whenever he’s going down court. Is able to attack the glass and obtain rebounds, despite his small frame.

 

Connor Sprattley 6-0, Point Guard, Thomas Jefferson High School Campus, Gersh Park, Class of 2025 - A guard that has plenty of speed in his game and has the ability to get past the defender guarding him at all times. Is good at driving to the basket and is able to score at will when he has the opportunity. Finds ways to get to the free-throw line, as he is able to draw fouls by initiating contact whenever he goes to the basket.

 

Ty-Laur Johnson 6-0, Point Guard, St. Benedict’s Preparatory School (NJ), Gersh Park, Class of 2023 - A guard that has the opportunity to run the floor at all times and is able to make his presence felt every time on the court. Is good at his shot selection as he is able to drive to the basket and can finish at the basket. Has the ability to go into the paint and obtain rebounds at all times.

 

Youssouf Singare 7-0, Center, Our Saviour Lutheran High School, Watson, Class of 2023 - A forward that is able to dominate on both ends of the floor. Has great hands and can control what happens whenever he’s at the basket, as he is a great shot blocker and can easily deny the opposition from scoring. Is dominant on the offensive end, as he is able to finish at the rim.

 

Armoni Zeigler 6-4, Shooting Guard, Our Savior Lutheran High School, Watson, Class of 2023 - A guard that has the ability to be very explosive whenever he’s on the offensive end of the floor. Has a penchant for throwing down great dunks when on the offensive end. Has good eyes on the defensive end, as he is able to get steals, which then allows her to transition to the other end of the floor.

 

Christian Jones 6-4, Shooting Guard, Our Saviour Lutheran High School, Watson, Class of 2023 - A guard that has the ability to do many things on the court and has the opportunity to make an impact on the floor. Has a nice shot from the outside and is able to get his release off quickly. Loves to use his athleticism and is able to get to the rim with ease.

 

Kenny Satterfield, Jr., 6-2, Point Guard, The Patrick School (NJ), Lincoln Park, Class of 2023 - A guard that can bring up the ball and is able to see the floor efficiently and can make his teammates better every time. Has the ability to get to the free throw line and can get to the free throw line. Is fearless when going to the hole.

 

Mouhamed Dioubate 6-7, Forward, Putnam Science Academy (CT), Lincoln Park, Class of 2023 - A forward that has the ability to use his strength to make his presence felt on both ends of the court. Is fearless when going up for a rebound and is able to absorb contact at all times. Goes up strong at the basket and is successful at scoring in the post and is good at getting to the free-throw line.
