St. Edmund Preparatory High School is a Roman Catholic college preparatory school for young men and women based in Brooklyn.

 

The SEP Eagles basketball team competes in Division A of the CHSAA. They enter this fall with high hopes and look to be contenders. The Eagles return two starters and welcome back the return of leading scorer Mitchell Wiggan. Wiggan missed 14 games last season, due to injury.

 

The Eagles will be busy in the fall, participating in the following events:
• Island Garden NY Madness (9/10-9/11)
• CSI Team Camp (10/8)
• I.S. 8 Tip-OFF Classic


During September the team will have Open Gyms on the following dates/times:
• Wednesday, 9/14 3:00-5:00
• Thursday, 9/15 4:00-6:00
• Tuesday, 9/20 4:00-6:00

 

Here are the key players participating in the fall program:

 

Mitchell Wiggan (2023) 6’4 guard - Mitchell is currently rated as the #11 senior in NYS by Prephoops.com He made all division last season and was selected 10th team All NYS last season. He led the CHSAA ‘A’ Division in scoring (16ppg). He is a long and athletic player that has improved in every facet of his game. He has received D1 and D2 interest and should have an excellent season. He also holds a 92 average in the classroom.

 

Brendan Armour (2023) 6’6 wing- Brendan is currently rated as the #17 senior in NYS by Prephoops.com and made All Division last season. He averaged a double-double (12 ppg/15 rpg). He plays inside and out as a point forward with skills reminiscent of Nikola Jokic and Kevin Love. Brendan has received interest from a number of D2 and D3 schools. Brendan is a two-sport athlete (baseball). He also holds a 93 average in the classroom.

 

Jordan Boreman (2024) 6’2 guard- Jordan quietly had an excellent sophomore season last year (8 ppg/5 apg/4 spg) and will make a big jump this season. He is a 2 way guard that can do many things on the court to help the team win.

 

Jaydin Sanchez (2024) 5’8 guard- Jaydin is a threat from deep and has improved tremendously over the summer. He led the team in scoring 4 times last season.

 

Matthew Frost (2023) 6’3 small forward - Matt provides scoring, rebounding, defense, and toughness to the team. He could be a double-double guy this season up front. Matt is very athletic and a two-sport (baseball) athlete.

 

Gavin Paulsen (2024) 6’1 small forward - Gavin comes up from the JV team and is the team’s top defender. He will play key minutes and should impact winning.

 

Matt Steiner (2023) 5’10 guard - Matt played quality minutes as a junior and is capable of leading the team from the guard position. Matt is a 2 sport (baseball) athlete.

 

Joe O’Sullivan (2024) 6’2 wing- Joe is being promoted from the JV team and will add perimeter scoring, rebounding, and toughness off the bench.

 

Tyler Burns (2023) 6’6 forward- Tyler can rebound, run the floor, and provides leadership off the bench.

 

John Leahy (2023) 6’2 wing- John is crafty with a good basketball IQ. He can shoot and pass. He’s also a two-sport (baseball) athlete.

 

Connor McElhinney (2024) 6’0 guard- Connor is a tough/defensive minded guard. He is a two-sport (soccer) athlete.

 

Michael Baker (2024) 6’4 forward- Michael can rebound and shoot from the perimeter. He may provide some frontcourt depth.

 

Matthew Brock (2025) 5’10 guard- Matt averaged nearly 25 ppg on the freshmen team last season and is pushing for a varsity spot. He has poise, a high basketball IQ, and can really shoot the ball from deep. He is a player to keep an eye on in the future.

 

Cameron Mena (2025) 6’2 wing- Cam will be an excellent player at SEP in the near future. He works hard and is versatile. He’ll be with the varsity in the fall as well.
