Gauchos Roundball Classic Standouts 9/16/22

On Friday night, September 16, RecruitTheBronx.com got to the Gauchos Gymnasium in The Bronx for the first week of the Gauchos Roundball Classic, which specializes in having high school teams that are trying to prepare for their upcoming high school season. On this date, there would be a matchup between Christ the King High School and Monsignor Scanlan High School. Both squads compete in the CHSAA AA Division. Both teams played down to the wire, but the Crusaders would knock off the Royals in a close game. Here are the standouts from the game:
Brandon Williams 6-8, Forward, Christ the King High School, Class of 2023 - (UCLA commit) A forward that is able to make a great impact on the game whenever he has the ball in his hands. Has the ability to put the ball on the floor and can attack the basket. Is able to get his shot off efficiently from the perimeter and is able to use his strength around the boards.
Brandon Gardner 6-7, Forward, Christ the King High School, Class of 2023 - (St Johns commit) A forward that is able to impose his well in the post area on both ends of the floor. Is great at muscling his way to the basket and can absorb contact when going into the lane. Is able to grab rebounds efficiently.
Dwayne Pierce 6-6, Forward, Christ the King High School, Class 2024 - A forward that has a smooth, versatile game on the offensive end of the floor and has a penchant for making strong drives to the basket. Loves to attack the glass and then run downcourt on a fast break. Is able to absorb contact when going to the basket & goes up strong.
Bryce Merchant 6-5, Shooting Guard, Christ the King High School, Class of 2023 - A guard that is able to space the floor and get open at all times. Is a player that loves to shoot from long range & is a consistent threat from three. Has the ability to step into the lane and drive to the basket. Is a good finisher in the lane and is good at absorbing contact when going up for too.
Kiyan Anthony 6-3, Shooting Guard, Christ the King High School, Class of 2025 - A guard that has the ability to make great plays when he’s on the floor. Has the ability to make strong drives to the basket and is able to get past the opposition when he has the ball in his hands. Is great at getting his shot off, every from three-point range.
Jaidan Hill 6-0, Point Guard, Monsignor Scanlan High School, Class of 2023 - A guard that has the ability to control the tempo of the team when on the offensive end. Has excellent court vision and is able to make sure his teammates get the ball whenever the right moment presents itself. Will stick with his man and plays excellent defense.
Nasir Rodriguez 6-4, Shooting Guard, Monsignor Scanlan High School, Class of 2024 - A guard that has good length and has great upper body-strength, especially when playing above the rim. Has a lot of toughness when going up for a rebound and is fearless when going to the basket. Has plenty of superb athleticism when on the court.
Dior Anderson 6-1, Point Guard, Monsignor Scanlan High School, Class of 2026 - A guard that is very wise beyond his years when he is on the court. Knows when to drive to the basket and when to dish it out to his teammates in order for them to score. Has an affinity for using his speed and has good court vision.
Kassius Paulin 6-4, Forward, Monsignor Scanlan High School, Class of 2023 - A forward that is a great asset to his teammates when he’s on the court. Has the ability to put the ball on the floor and loves to drive to the basket to score. Is great at absorbing contact when he’s in the paint area and will go up for the basket.
Jabari Phillips 6-4, Forward, Monsignor Scanlan High School, Class of 2023 - A forward that has plenty of strength and is great at attacking the glass when in the paint. Has great footwork and is a wonderful finisher at the basket when going up to score. Isn’t afraid to take contact when going up to score and has good hands and good footwork.
