Gauchos Roundball Classic Standouts 10/20/22

On Thursday, October 20, RecruitTheBronx.com paid a visit to the Gaucho Gymnasium in The Bronx for the Gauchos Roundball Classic, which played their final regular season games before the playoffs. The final slate of games were between Adlai Stevenson High (PSAL) and Christ the King High (CHSAA) and Archbishop Molloy High (CHSAA) and Clarkstown North High. Here are the standouts from those games:
Francisco Demers 6-2, Shooting Guard, Adlai Stevenson High School, Class of 2023 - A guard that has the ability to take on whatever challenges come his way on the floor. Is a very tough matchup for the opposition, as he is very physical player that is fearless when driving to the basket and is prone to absorbing contact. Will go up for rebounds and likes to run in transition.
Malik Fields 6-1, Point Guard, Adlai Stevenson High School, Class of 2025 -A guard that is very quick and always looks to get his teammates the ball when on the perimeter & will make sure that they get the ball at the right moment. Is very active and will get to the ball, whether it is to get steals or to retrieve a loose ball.
AJ Segu 6-2, Shooting Guard, Adlai Stevenson High School, Class of 2023 - A guard that is shifty and will make big plays for his team whenever they are in need of a spark. Is a player that loves to run in transition and is always fearless when going into the lane. Has a penchant for shooting from long range & has a nice shooting stroke.
Brandon Williams 6-8, Forward, Christ the King High School, Class of 2023 (UCLA commit] - A forward that has plenty of versatility when on the court. Is a player that can put the ball on the floor and run in transition after getting a rebound. Is able to create for himself on the offensive end and can step out and shoot from long range or he can drive to the basket with fearlessness and can absorb contact.
Kiyan Anthony 6-3, Shooting Guard, Christ the King High School, Class of 2025 - A guard that is able to make smart plays when on the court. Has great basketball IQ & has a penchant for getting his shot off efficiently. Finds a way to get his teammates the ball when on the break. Knows when to take his shots.
Bryce Merchant 6-5, Forward, Christ the King High School, Class of 2023 - A forward that is strong and solid in the low-post. Has the ability to hold his own in the paint area, due to his upper-body strength and is able to obtain rebounds and can absorb contact when going up to the basket. Has the ability to outwork players that are taller than him.
Markell Alston Christ the King - A guard that has the ability to be a lights-out scorer whenever he is on the floor. Has a penchant for making big plays when he has the ball in his hands at all times. Loves to hit big-time shots from three-point range and can get to the basket off the dribble and score with precision.
Devin Vanterpool 6-3, Shooting Guard, Christ the King High School, Class of 2023 - A guard that has the ability to make big plays when on the court, due to his scoring ability. Has a knack for driving to the basket and is able to use his athleticism when he goes up for two. Is able to create for himself when it comes to his scoring ability. Is a good shooter from three-point range and on the perimeter.
Jayden James 6-3, Shooting Guard, Archbishop Molloy High School, Class of 2023 - A guard that has the ability to be formidable scorer when on the court. Loves to run in transition and will get to the basket at all times. Is a player that can play above the rim. Has great defensive tendencies when on the other end, as he will obtain steals after guarding the opposition heavily.
Kuba Cwalina 6-3, Shooting Guard, Archbishop Molloy High School, Class of 2023 - A guard that has the ability to play the guard or wing position when on the court. Has plenty of poise and has a lot of strength on the court. Is able to beat his man off the dribble and loves to drive to the basket with ease. Is a player that can shoot from long range.
Malachi MacMillian 6-1, Point Guard, Archbishop Molloy High School, Class of 2023 - A guard that has plenty of quickness when he’s going to the basket. Has the ability to get past defenders off the dribble and is able to get past the opposition with no problem. Is able to absorb contact when going to the hole and is able to go up with plenty of strength.
Jonathan Ferrer, 5-10, Point Guard, Clarkstown North High School, Class of 2023 - A guard that is able to make nice, heady plays when he is on the floor. Likes to make good decisions when on the floor, when it comes to passing the ball to his teammates at the right spots. Has a penchant for going up strong to the basket.
CJ Kirkland, 5-11, Shooting Guard, Clarkstown North High School, Class of 2023 - A guard that is able to take over the game when he has the ball in his hands. Is able to make acrobatic plays with the ball and will take a chance by being aggressive when scoring. Has the ability to shoot from long range.
Chris Merrilus, 6-4, Forward, Clarkstown North High School, Class of 2023 - A forward that has good footwork and is able to a force for his teammates every time he’s on the floor. Knows how to outwork the opposition on the low block and can make his presence felt when he’s going up for rebounds. Will make hook shots and will muscle his way in for a layup.
