Eagle Academy For Young Men in the Bronx is an all-boys’ public secondary school that operates under the guise of the New York City Department of Education. It was opened in 2004, established by the 100 Black Men of America organization.


The boys varsity basketball team is coached by Roosevelt Byers, who also serves as a Director for the Milbank Flyers AAU basketball program. The team is coming off of a great season, winning the Bronx PSAL AA Division and the Borough championship. Below are the profiles on the 2022-23 players.


Jaden Zimmerman 6’5, 175lbs (2024) -  JZ has added some height this past year and is an elite athlete who plays above the rim. He’s a three level scorer, drives aggressively to the basket and can shoot the 3 ball. JZ will also spend some time running the point guard position this year for The Academy


Steven Polanco (2023) 6’3 168lbs, 2 guard - Transferred in after spending 3 years at Our Savior Lutheran in the Bronx. Steve is a quick slashing guard who can knock down the open shot. Athletic and plays aggressively on both ends of the court.


Jaryn Bull (2023) 6’3 172lbs, Shooting Guard. Jaryn is truly a big guard who can shoot and finish above the rim. The quiet assassin. Jaryn can easily avg. a double double this year. A true stat stuffer.


Evin Alequin (2024) 5’11 165lbs, guard - Evin is s first year varsity player. He played on the JV team last year. Smooth lefty who can shoot from behind the perimeter.


Khalil Robinson (2023) 5’9 160lbs, point guard -  The heart and soul of the team. A pest on the defensive end. Loves to get his teammates going. Soft floater from anywhere in the paint and can also knock down the three ball.


Braylin Sanjurjo (2024) 5’11 165lbs. Transfer from Don Bosco High (NJ). Floor general who sees the floor very well.  Handles the ball with the best of them and can knock down the mid range shot. Will also get his hands dirty on the defense end.


Charles Solorzano (2023) 6’8 190lbs, small forward. The Eagle Academy coaches are expecting a breakout year for him this season. At 6’8 he can step behind the line and knock down the three. Rebounds the ball well and protects the rim with his 7’0 wingspan.


Jonathan Jones (2023,) 6’3 173lbs, 2 guard - JJ is one of the best shooters in the PSAL. Worked really hard on his ball handling skills this off season and it has showed in pretty season games already. Can get to the basket and finish around the rim. Good rebounder as well. put the ball on the deck.


D’Andre Gibbs (2024) 6’1 160lbs, point guard - Dre returns back to Eagle Academy after spending 2 years at Monsignor Scalan HS. Dre graduated from the middle school here at Eagle as an 8th grader. Happy to have this scoring machine back home. Dre is a explosive player who can score the ball in a variety of ways. Good three ball shooter and defensively we will expect him to guard the opposing best player each game.


Moussa Camara (2023) 6’7, 215lbs, small forward - Moussa is a strong rebounder and finishes around the rim with both hands. Nice soft touch from 12-15 ft.


Leuri Done (2025) 6’0 185lb. Point guard - First year varsity player / played JV last year. Leuri is a heady pg. who will def. Find some time this year backing up the lint guard position.


Juan Escuano (2025) 6’1, 165lbs, guard - Juan is another player who played a huge role on the JV team last year. Juan will be a vital piece to the Eagle program for the next two years.


Abdolua Tourey (2023) 6’0, 170lbs, guard - Abdolua worked extremely hard during the summer and it showed as he competed and earned himself a spot on this talented roster. He will work hard and make a contribution to the squad this year.
