Fordham Preparatory School is a private, Jesuit, boys’ college-preparatory school located in the Bronx, New York City. It is located on the Rose Hill campus of Fordham University. From its founding in 1841 until 1970, the school was under the direction of the university.

The boys varsity basketball team competes in the CHSSA A Division. The 2022-‘23 Rams are coming off back-to-back City Championships, but have lost 97% of their prior season’s scoring and 99% of their rebounding due to graduation and a transfer. Coach Brian Downey will be in his ninth year at the helm, and will be expanding upon his 130-57 win-loss record to date.

Ryan Jackson (2024) 5’9 point guard. The Rams will be led by Jackson, who will run the offense with his great court vision. He is able to get past his defender to either kick out or knock down a pull up mid range. He can knock down the 3 in transition and in sets. He is also a pest on the defensive side, who will cause deflections and steals. 3.5 gpa

Will Gregory (2024) 6’2 shooting guard - Gregory is a knock down 3pt shooter from anywhere on the court. If defenders overplay him, he will cut backdoor for a layup. His basketball IQ is high and sees the floor very well. His length on defense helps with deflections to disrupt opponents sets. 4.3 gpa

Oninye Okonkwo (2023) 6’1 guard - Okonkwo is the lone returning student-athlete with major minutes on last year’s City Championship squad. He brings athleticism, high IQ and length and quickness. He is a top tier defender who will disrupt anyone on the court. His quickness gets him to the hoop and he can finish with the big men in the paint or pull up from mid range. 4.5 gpa

Devon Haines (2023) 6’4 forward - Haines played limited minutes last year but will be a key part in the Rams’ success this season. Plays well around the rim on both ends of the floor and will hit the open jumper in the corner or on the wing. 4.5 gpa

Timmy Doheny (2023) 6’2 guard - Doheny is another senior with limited minutes last season, but has now stepped into a leadership role. His 3pt shooting is above average from any spot on the court. He is a City Champion in two sports, with golf being the other. 3.7 gpa

Matt Herlick (2025) 6’0 guard - Herlick is going to have many roles as a sophomore. He’s a quick and athletic guard who can play both positions. He is a strong finisher at the hoop with a nice mid range game. He is getting better everyday behind the arc.

Matt Kapfer (2024) 6’3 forward is a wiry, energetic player who will get many offensive rebounds even though undersized. He’s the perfect role player who doesn’t mind getting on the floor or taking charges. He will be hard to take off the court. 4.0 gpa

Alex Mateo (2024) 6’2 guard is another energy player who will be playing out of position this year due to needs. He can get to the rim and finish. He’s still developing from outside the arc but will help us inside with his strength and length. 3.6 gpa

Luc Pezeu (2024) 6’6 forward will have to play big and strong for Prep. He’s going to be a nice defender and is working on his post game everyday in practice.
