2022 Monsignor King First Round Standouts

On Monday, December 26, we paid a visit to the St. Thomas Aquinas Parish gymnasium in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn, New York for the 52nd annual Monsignor King Tournament. The event is a showcase in which plenty of teams from the New York City area and beyond came out to compete for a title. On this night, McKee/Staten Island Tech played St. John’s Prep and Nazareth Regional played against Bedford Academy. Here are the standouts from both first-round games:

 

Dylan Pargan 6-3, Shooting Guard, St. John’s Preparatory School, Class of 2024 - A guard that has the ability to play inside and outside of the paint area. Is able to put the ball on the floor and create for himself on the offensive end. Has the ability to obtain rebounds and dish it out to his teammates as they’re running to the other end.


Kahlil Sutton, 5-11, Point Guard, St. John’s Preparatory School, Class of 2023 - A guard that has a penchant for playing tough defense and is very alert when it comes to getting to the ball. Has the ability to slow down the tempo and is a good distributor when it comes to making sure that his teammates get the ball. Has the ability to drive to the basket and is able to absorb contact when going up for a basket.


Jacob Gomez 6-0, Shooting Guard, St. John’s Preparatory School, Class of 2025 - A guard that has the ability to make plays and does not hesitate to shoot the ball. When driving to the basket, he has great body control and is able to draw fouls easily. Is a player that likes to hustle for the ball and uses his speed to his advantage.


Tyray Spencer 6-1, Shooting Guard, McKee/Staten Island Tech High School, Class of 2025 - A guard that can score from anywhere on the floor and is able to create for himself off the dribble. Is very fearless when going to the basket and can draw fouls easily. When not guarded heavily, he is able to split defenses easily and is smooth when going to the basket.


Christopher Bonner, 6-1, Point Guard, McKee/Staten Island Tech High School, Class of 2023 - A guard that has a penchant to use his quickness to get past the opposition. Finds ways to get to the basket with ease and is a good spot-up shooter from the corner. Has the ability to find his teammates in certain places in order to give them the ball so that they can score.


Jacob Roman 6-2, Shooting Guard, Nazareth High School, Class of 2024 - A guard that can do many things on the floor. Is adept at using his athleticism on the break, especially when there is an open lane. Loves to attack on the break and can shoot from the perimeter. Can take advantage of the opposition when not guarded heavily.


Andre Prescott 5-10, Point Guard, Nazareth High School, Class of 2023 - A guard that is lightning-quick and loves to run down court on a fast break. Has the ability to obtain steals and has great court awareness on the offensive end. Is a guard that can also shoot from long range and is a great finisher at the basket.


Halon Rawlings 6-6, Forward, Nazareth High School, Class of 2025 - A forward that has good size and is very skilled. Has plenty of guard instincts even though he plays at the four and is able to put the ball on the floor and get past the opposition with his ability to dribble. Loves to outwork his opponents on the boards and is prone to getting rebounds and running down the court on the break.


Tyler Francis 6-6, Forward, Nazareth High School, Class of 2024 - A forward that has great athletic prowess on the court. Has plenty of explosiveness and is very aware of when the ball goes up when it comes to rebounds. Has the ability to block shots on the defensive end and is a great finisher at the basket on the offensive end.


Caleb Crosby 6-0, Point Guard, Bedford Academy, Class of 2024 - A guard that is able to facilitate to his teammates and find ways to get them the ball. Also has a penchant for shooting from long range and is willing to take on the opposition whenever he feels like driving to the basket. Has a nice fluid motion on his jumper and can be a dangerous threat if left unguarded.


Wayne Best 6-3, Shooting Guard, Bedford Academy, Class of 2025 - A guard that is a pure offensive threat when on the court. A player that is good at driving to the basket and running on the break. Has a good shooting stroke and has a nice handle on the dribble, which allows him to get past defenders easily. Likes to distribute the ball to his teammates and put them in position to score.


Ethan Jacobs 6-6, Small Forward, Bedford Academy, Class of 2023 - A forward that has plenty of strength and uses it to his advantage when in the low post. Is able to battle it out with the opposition for rebounds and is able to absorb physical contact when going up for a basket. Has a long wingspan and is very active on the boards. Is able to put the ball on the floor on the offensive end.
