Darrow School is an independent, co-educational college-preparatory school for boarding and day students in grades 9-12 and PG. Its New Lebanon, NY campus is a 365-acre property just to the west of the boundary between New York and Massachusetts in the Taconic Mountains and within the Berkshire cultural region. Their mens’ basketball team is loaded with college prospects and plays in the very high level college prep basketball NEPSAC AA Conference. The team is head coached by Assane Sene and shown below are the player profiles for his 2022-23 roster.

 

Kerv Blanc (2024) 6’7 guard/forward - Blanc is a very long wing who can handle the ball and make shots. He has the ability to score and rebound the ball at a high clip. Kerv also uses his length to get in to the passing lanes and deflects. He’s a very skilled passer who sees the floor and is a true leader. Puts his time in the gym and in the classrooms- has added muscle and strength and is a lot stronger than he looks. He can play multiple positions. Blanc shoots the ball really well for his size. Working on improving his ball handling.

 

Farouk Kaba (2023) 6’4 guard - Kaba is a long very athletic and skilled 2-way guard. He can run the floor, get to the basket efficiently and finish strong while also being able to shoot pretty well from the perimeter. The combination of his quickness and frame allows him to guard multiple positions on the floor at a high level. Kaba can stay in front of small guards with his long arms and challenges anyone at the rim and has a drive that will allow him to excel on the college level. Kaba really worked on his body during the summer. Farouk is great student as well with 3.8gpa


Leonard Pelzer (2023) 6’8 forward - Pelzer is a highly coachable and has a very high basketball IQ. He is a true team player who can rebound at a high level both on the offensive and defensive glass but will continue to work on his quickness. Leonard takes pride in his defense and can affect the game with his shot blocking ability. On offense, he is extremely efficient and is constantly looking to make the right play and getting his teammates a good shot, often showcasing his skills as a great passer. Pelzer was a member of the U16 Germany national team.


Mo Sylla (2023) - Sylla is a sharpshooter who can consistently stroke it from a deep range and plays hard defensively. He leads the team in 3 point shooting %. He is a big team leader and always wants to win. He is getting interest from D3 schools. Sylla is a very coachable player who wants to keep getting better. He is working extremely hard in the classroom.


Sekou Kourouma (2024) 6’0 guard - Good guard with a great feel for the game. Excellent passer who sees the floor really well. Good shooter, with range to three, but also finishes well at the basket. Good defender who shoots the passing lanes well however he keeps working hard on defense skills. Good leader from the guard spot. Kourouma works hard in the classroom as well. 3.3 gpa


Jonathan Guerrier (2023) 6’4 point guard - A strong point guard with size that is capable of playing off the ball as well. Guerrier has a high skill level as well as a strong basketball IQ. He sees the floor, scores and defends with toughness and great anticipation. He makes winning plays and has a great work ethic. Jonathan is good player who can compete at the highest level. He keeps working hard on his body and in classroom.


Anuvik Das (2023) 6’2 guard - Das is a winner that can do a little bit of everything on the court. He is a can play all 5 positions and he can defend all 5 positions. He doesn’t get tired. He is a lockdown defender but he also has a polished offensive game. He can score in bunches from the perimeter but he can also take advantage of slower defenders.  He is will be a great leader wherever he ends up. 3.8gpa


Matthew Lucien (2023) 5’10 guard - Lucien is a tough, physical scoring guard. Know how to get his shots in tight space with craft and footwork in the mid-range, and deep range. When defense over helps to stop him, he finds teammates for easy looks. Strong point of attack, on ball defender. Very coachable player who loves basketball and wants to compete and get better.


Josiah Brillant (2024) 6’1 Guard - First season playing in NEPSAC AA and is rapidly improving. Can make shots off the catch, understands how to play and competes around the perimeter. Brillant is a very coachable player and is a quick learner. He will continue working on his strength.  He works hard in the classroom with a high gpa
