2023 Andrew James Lawson Invitational Standouts

On Saturday,January 21 - We made it up to the TD Garden in Boston, MA for the Andrew Lawson Invitational, a showcase where some of New England’s finest talent would be on display. In the final three games of the day, there were some great matchups, which included Connecticut’s own Kingswood-Oxford School, as they went up against Dexter Southfield School (MA), the power matchup between two of the NEPSAC’s finest in #1 ranked Brewster Academy (NH) and #3 ranked Worcester Academy (MA), and also the finale between the undefeated St. Sebastian School (MA) and Belmont Hill School (MA). Here are the standouts from all three games:


John Brighan, 6-9, Forward, Dexter Southfield School (MA), Class of 2024 - A forward that is a physical presence in the low post. Is able to post up on the opposition and muscle his way to the basket to score. Is able to obtain rebounds and block shots in the paint area. Uses his strength to be a formidable force for his team on both ends of the court.


Andrew Mitchell, 6-3, Shooting Guard, Dexter Southfield School (MA), Class of 2023 - A guard that likes to hustle on both ends of the court. Loves to run on the fast break and can finesse his way to the basket with his dribble. Is always on attack mode when driving to the basket and has the mentality of a scorer every time he has the ball in is hand. Is able to shoot from the perimeter and can make off-balance shots efficiently.


Christian Abrams, 6-1, Point Guard, Dexter Southfield School (MA), Class of 2023 - A guard that has plenty of strength and a lot of good body control when going to the basket. Has the ability to make shots from three-point range. Has a nice fluid shooting motion when he’s going up to shoot. Is able to move off the ball and is always ready to anticipate the ball and looks to flash to the basket. Has the ability to distribute the ball to his teammates and set them up for passes that could led to baskets afterwards.


Gavin Griffiths 6-7, Shooting Guard, Kingswood Oxford School, Class of 2023 (Rutgers University commit) - A guard that is able to do many things on the floor. Is able to roll off the screen and anticipate the ball and can make shots from three-point range. Is a player that can also drive to the basket and is also a very athletic player. Is able to anticipate passes and can also get blocks.


Chuck Hare 6-10, Forward, Kingswood Oxford School, Class of 2024 - A forward that has the ability to be versatile and also hold his own in the post area. Is a player that can play on the perimeter and is able to make shots. Has a nice shooting stroke when shooting from deep. Has good hands on the defensive end & can make blocks. Has the ability to drive to the basket and show off his athleticism and can throw down dunks.


DJ Biggins 6-1, Point Guard, Kingswood Oxford School, Class of 2026 - A guard that is very deceptive with the ball and can make plenty of decisions on the court. Has excellent court vision and is always ready to distribute the ball to the open man to ensure that they can get an opportunity to score. Has the ability to drive to the basket himself and obtain a layup.


Tre Norman, 6-3, Shooting Guard, Worcester Academy (MA), Class of 2023 (Marquette University commit)- A guard that can hold his own on the court at all times. Is a competitor that is willing to outwork the opposition. Is able to make smooth moves on the court and is able to get to the basket with ease. Has the opportunity to shoot from three-point range & has a nice fluid shooting motion and is definitely a scoring machine. Is a great defender, as he is able to move with the opposition at all times.


Kayvaun Mulready, 6-4, Point Guard, Worcester Academy (MA), Class of 2024 (Providence College commit) - A guard that has the ability to take over the game. Has the ability to drive to the basket and has plenty of athleticism when going to the rim. Has a good eye for the defensive end, as he is able to obtain steals. Finds ways to get open on the offensive end and can create for himself on the defensive end.


Declan Ryan, 6-8, Forward, Worcester Academy (MA), Class of 2023 - A forward that has the ability to make plays and can make his presence felt with his size. Has the ability to grab rebounds and is very mobile when it comes to scoring. Is able to put the ball on the floor and is able to get to the basket with ease, due to his footwork.


TJ Power (2023) 6’9 small forward (Duke University commit) - Power is a skilled, versatile and high IQ wing who can quick-release shoot off the catch or bounce. Plays both inside and outside with impact.  He is a good rebounder as well. 


Taylor Bol Bowen, 6-9, Forward, Brewster Academy (NH), Class of 2023 (Florida State commit) - A forward that is long and agile and is able to do plenty of things on the court. Has a penchant for showing plenty of athleticism on the boards and when going to the basket to score. Is able to put the ball on the floor and can step out to three-point line and shoot jumpers.


Jeremiah Jenkins 5-11, Point Guard, Brewster Academy (NH), Class of 2024 - A guard that has a penchant for showing excellent court vision and can use his quickness to get up and down the court efficiently. Is able to set up his teammates for good opportunities to score and is able to finish at the basket. Has a nice shooting touch from three-point range.


Jaylen Harrell, 6-4, Shooting Guard, St. Sebastian School (MA), Class of 2025 - A guard that is a scoring machine and can do many things on the offensive end. Is able to create for himself off the dribble and is able to anticipate passes when he’s off the ball and is always ready to shoot or drive to the basket. Has the ability to pass the ball to his teammates so that they can go on to score.


AJ Dybantsa, 6-7, Forward, St. Sebastian School (MA), Class of 2026 - Rapidly establishing himself as one of the top freshmen in the country, Dybanta is a forward that has plenty of length and a lot of athleticism on both ends of the court. Has the ability to use his athleticism at the rim and is able to make plenty of highlight-reel plays. Is able to shoot from the perimeter and has a nice shot.


Trevor Mullin, 6-0, Point Guard, St. Sebastian School (MA), Class of 2023 (Yale University commit) - A guard that has the ability to make smart plays around the basket. Has the ability to get past defenders off the dribble and is a great finisher at the basket. Has a penchant for shooting from three-point range and is a good decision maker when it comes to bringing the ball up.


Giacomo Kaplan, 5-9, Point Guard, Belmont Hill School (MA), Class of 2025 - A guard that has the ability to make plays on the court. Has a nice shooting touch from three-point range, as his shot can be deadly. Has the ability to make passes to give his teammates opportunities to score at all times. Is able to stick with his man in order to obtain steals on defense.


Jamari Robinson, 6-0, Shooting Guard, Belmont Hill School (MA), Class of 2025 - A guard that has a penchant for scoring in bunches and can do plenty of things on the court. Likes to be slick with his dribble and can attack the basket and can finish strong at the hole. Has a nice shot as he is prone to hitting three-pointers when left open or when he has a great opportunity.


Isaiah Langham, 6-4, Shooting Guard, Belmont Hill School (MA), Class of 2025 - A guard that has the ability to make plays on the court and is very deceptive with the ball. Is a strong finisher on the court and has plenty of explosiveness on the offensive end. Has a good penchant for obtaining steals and getting down court with ease.
