Eagle Academy for the Young Men of Harlem (which is housed in the Percy Sutton Educational Complex) is one of the six schools in the Eagle Academy School Network. It is an all boys 6-12 public school affiliated with the New York Department of Education. It was opened in 2013 and established by the 100 Black Men of America organization.


The boys varsity basketball team is coached by Jermel Collins-Day, who also serves as the Athletic Director of the Percy Sutton Educational Complex. The assistant coaches Moustapha Mbaye and Scooter Thomas bring years of experience, knowledge, dedication and leadership to the Eagle Harlem/Percy Sutton basketball program. They are making great strides in the central Harlem community through basketball to build a basketball powerhouse. The team is coming off a great season (9-3) playing out of the Manhattan A Division with the intent to become contenders for years to come. Below or the profiles of the 2022-2023 players:


Blake Fowler Lastra (2024)  6’1, 167 pounds - Skilled guard who can shoot, make tough layups and runs the floor well. Very athletic and is a great teammate. Was a rotation player this year but will look to have a bigger role next year.


Mourtalla “Malik” Mbaye (2023) 6’3 200 pounds - High IQ player and efficient three point shooter who has a knack of being around the ball and making the right play. Good rebounder who pushes the ball and looks for his teammates. He is also very sound on the defensive end. Great in the wing but he can also play the point guard role when needed. Can finish and dribble both hands with ease. Has all the intangibles that college coaches are looking for. Honor Roll student. Averaging 17 pts, 8 rbs, 6 ast a game.


Romance Blessing (2025) 5’8 , 120 pounds - First year on varsity. His high IQ has earned him a spot in the rotation. He is able to spread the floor with his shot making and also does a great job of putting his teammates in the right place.


Wylik Coleman (2024) 6’0, 150 pounds - Shifty guard who can score at will. He is a natural shooting guard but he made the adjustment to point guard and thrived with his transition. His quick first step allows him to attack the basket with ease. He plays hard and is very coachable. He can score from all levels including from the three, mid range and free throw lines. Averaging 17 pts, 5 rbs, 7 ast a game. Is talented enough to play on the collegiate level.


Marcly Richard (2023) 6’1, 150 pounds - Rotational player who improved as the season progressed. He plays with great effort on defense. Standing at 6’2 he’s able guard multiple positions. He sets good scenes and also has a good shot.


Tyson Barrett Jr (2023) 6’4, 190 pounds -  Two year varsity starter. Team captain and is the team’s best defender. Standing at 6’4 he can guard any position on the floor. He is also good at getting to the basket when he attacks from the wing or high post. Honor Roll student.


Tommie Hooks (2023) 6’4, 175 pounds - The team’s leading rebounder for back to back seasons. Standing at 6’4 he is very athletic as he’s able to switch screens and pick up on guards. Hustles hard for every rebound and he always looks for his teammates. Runs back on defense and does the little things to help the team win.

Albert Berroa (2023) 6’4, 150 pounds - Elite baseball prospect who is playing basketball to stay in shape. Is a great teammate, has great energy and plays hard on defense.


Jean Carlos (2023) 5’10, 155 pounds - Transferred from Mt. Saint Michael. Was averaging 19 points, 5 assist and 2 steals a game before he went down with a season ending injury. On track to return this summer. Skilled and talented enough to play on the collegiate level. Honor roll student.


Keismer Rondon (2024)  5’6, 145 pounds - First year varsity player. Plays good defense and has a good three point shot.


Classic Greene Fowler (2023) 5’10, 150 pounds - Pass first point guard who is always looking for his teammates. Has a nice first step and floater. He plays with high energy on defense and always is there to provide great help defense. Honor roll student.


Jasiah Lima (2023) 6’1, 160 pounds (2023) - High energy player who plays extremely hard especially on the defensive end. He also has a smooth 3 point shot. Moves well without the ball and finishes well around the rim. Has the potential to be a play on the collegiate level.


Binke Diarra (2024) 6’2 178 - First year varsity player. Standing at 6’4 he has a lot of potential. He gives great effort on defense, runs the floor well and can also make the open 3. Is expected to have a bigger role next year.
