2023 PSAL Manhattan and Bronx Borough Championships Standouts

On February 18, we visited Achievement First Endeavor Charter High School in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn for the PSAL Borough Championships. Two finalist teams from each of the four boroughs involved (Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan and The Bronx) played to win it all, and the right to call themselves champions of their respective boroughs. These games also offer a preview of what to expect in the PSAL city playoffs, which start on February 27th. We caught both the Manhattan and The Bronx championship games. Here are the standouts from each of the games:


Kalifa Outtara 6-6, Forward, Murry Bergtraum High School, Class of 2023 - A forward that has a strong presence on the floor and is always able to make his presence felt with his rebounding ability in the low post, but also his versatility. Has the ability to shoot a midrange jumper and can drive to the basket and play above the rim. Is his team’s x-factor on the court, as he is fearless and does not back down from any challenges that come his way.


Cristian Davis 6-0, Point Guard, Murry Bergtraum High School, Class of 2023 - A guard that has plenty of speed and finds ways to make sure that his teammates get the ball in the right places and at the right moments. Is fearless when going to the lane and is able to drive to the basket and finish. Is also a great defender when he stays onto his man.


Andre Bowles 6-4, Forward, Murry Bergtraum High School, Class of 2023 - A forward that is very strong and is able to hold his own in the low post. Has the ability to power his way to the basket, using his physicality to draw fouls and get to the free throw line. Has a great defensive presence with his length, as he is able to obtain steals and turn it into an offensive possession afterwards.


Derick Santos 6-1, Brandeis Educational Campus, Class of 2023 - A guard with plenty of finesse in his game, as he is able to create for himself off the dribble and finds multiple ways to be effective on the court. Is able to find his teammates when they’re on the break, which gives them opportunities to score. Is able to attack the basket and is a solid finisher.


Sebastian Solano 5-11, Brandeis Educational Campus, Class of 2023 - A guard that is a solid playmaker on the court that is a good asset to his teammates when on the floor. Is a player that can shoot from long range and has a nice shooting touch, especially if left open. Is able to drive to the basket smoothly and can finish in transition.


Jaden Zimmerman 6-5, Shooting Guard, Eagle Academy I, Class of 2024 - A guard that can make his presence felt in many ways with his scoring and athleticism. Has the ability to play above the rim when the lane is left open or when the opposition fails to box out. Is able to drive and can also hit floaters with a nice shooting touch.


Moussa Camara 6-7, Forward, Eagle Academy I, Class of 2023 - A forward that is able to use his length and size to hold his own in the post area. Has a long wingspan and good hands, which aid in him obtaining rebounds. Is able to outwork the opposition when it comes to him going up to score in the post.


Jaryn Bull 6-2, Shooting Guard, Eagle Academy, Class of 2023 - A guard that is able to do multiple things on the court and goes all-out every time he steps on the floor. Is able to hustle for loose balls and is able to attack the glass in order to obtain rebounds. Is a good finisher when he gets to the basket and is fearless when it comes to it comes to contact.


Bryce Simmons 6-1, Shooting Guard, Wings Academy, Class of 2023 - A guard that is willing to take risks when it comes to his shot selection on the floor. Is able to pull up for a jumper from three-point range or the mid-range and has a great shooting touch on the floor. Has the ability to drive to the basket and can finish with strength.


Jesse Segura 6-2, Forward, Wings Academy, Class of 2023 - A forward that can make his presence in many ways on the court. Is able to shoot from long range and can put the ball on the floor when the opportunity has been presented to him. Is able to kick passes out to his teammates when they have the opportunity to score.


Eric Irie, 5-11, Point Guard, Wings Academy, Class of 2023 - A guard that has the ability to facilitate to his teammates and is a true floor general when on the floor. Does not hesitate to take shots when he has the opportunity. Is also a player that loves to hustle for rebounds and loose balls on the floor.
