2023 PSAL 2nd Round Standouts

On Wednesday night, March 1, RecruitTheBronx.com was courtside at Mott Hall V High School in The Bronx for a matchup for the second round of the PSAL AA city playoffs between Brooklyn Collegiate High School and Wings Academy (The Bronx). Both teams played each other on January 29th at the Gotham Hoops Invitational at Adlai Stevenson High School Campus in The Bronx, with Wings winning, 58-54. But this time around, it would be the Lions turning the table, and ending the Wings’ season, 50-47. The win gets them a date in the PSAL AA quarterfinals this Saturday against the No. 1 seeded Eagle Academy I. Here are the standouts from this Wednesday’s game.


Bryce Simmons 6-1, Shooting Guard, Wings Academy, Class of 2023 - A guard that finds a way to make his presence felt when on the floor with his strong play. Is able to slice and dice his way to the basket and is always willing to take contact when driving. A player that will go all-out on defense and has plenty of energy when on the court.


Eric Irie, 5-11, Point Guard, Wings Academy, Class of 2023 -A guard that has excellent court vision and is able to control his team’s movement when he’s on the perimeter. Knows when to score and can find his teammates at the right times when on the court. Is able to stay on his man defensively and is prone to obtaining steals.


Juell Harris 6-6, Forward, Wings Academy, Class of 2023 - A forward that is very strong and is an anchor for the team defensively and is a huge presence on the other end, as well. Uses his strong build to get rebounds and block shots. When in the paint area, he shows plenty of grit and is able to outmuscle the opposition and get to the basket with plenty of strength and is a good finisher in the post.


Jesse Segura 6-3, Forward, Wings Academy, Class of 2023 - A forward with plenty of strength that is able to put the ball on the floor and Is able to run down court efficiently. Is able to shoot from the perimeter and will drive to the basket and finish with strength. Is always poised and controlled when on the floor.


Messiah Rodriguez 6-1, Shooting Guard, Wings Academy, Class of 2023 - A guard that has plenty of speed in his game and is always ready to make an impact when on the floor. Is able to make hustle plays on the court, whether it is a rebound or a steal. Is a player that can be counted on to drive to the basket and score in clutch moments and make crucial plays on defense.


Tyler Edore 6-7, Forward, Brooklyn Collegiate High School, Class of 2024 - A forward with plenty of footwork and a hard worker on both ends of the court. Is able to put the ball on the floor and can attack the glass when it comes to rebounding. Has a nice shooting touch, especially from three-point range, but can also make strong moves in the post area and can also finish efficiently in the paint.


Flavio Jean 6-0, Point Guard, Brooklyn Collegiate High School, Class of 2025 - A guard that has the ability to direct the team and makes sure that his team flows through his play. Is able to drive past the opposition and hit teammates with passes and give them opportunities to score. Is able to hit floaters and can draw fouls as a way to get to the free throw line.


Prince Oviawe 6-3, Forward, Brooklyn Collegiate High School, Class of 2023 - A forward that is a force in the low post that is able to neutralize the opposition with his strong play. Is able to make smooth drives and finish efficiently when going up to score for too. Is a great rebounder and is able to attack the glass and box out in the paint.


Jayden Johnson 6-1, Shooting Guard, Brooklyn Collegiate High School, Class of 2024 - A guard that has the ability to score at will when he is on the court. Has the ability to pull up from the perimeter and shoot from long range or pull up from the top of the key. Is fearless when going to the basket and can finish strong in the post area.


Michael Bruno III 6-3, Shooting Guard, Brooklyn Collegiate High School, Class of 2024 - A guard that gives plenty of effort when on the floor and plays smart every time. Is a player that is able to play tough defense and force the opposition to give up the ball or deny his man access to the ball. Has good court vision and knows when to kick out the ball to his teammates to put them in position to score.
