2023 CHSAA A Championship Standouts

On Friday night, March 3, RecruitTheBronx.com ‘s focus was Rose Hill Gym on the campus of Fordham University for the CHSAA A Division championship game between Nazareth High School and Monsignor Farrell High School. The two teams played each other twice earlier in the season, with the Nazareth Kingsmen winning. But this time around, the adage “its hard to beat a team three times” held, as Farrell Lions prevailed 50-46 and secure win the tournament championship.

Here are the standouts from the game:

Timothy Manuelian, 6-3, Point Guard, Monsignor Farrell High School, Class of 2023 - A guard that has great energy when on the court and has the ability to make sure his teammates are in the right places to receive the ball. Is able to drive to the basket and is a solid finisher when going to the hole. Has plenty of quickness when going down court.

Edward Loughlin, 6-0, Shooting Guard, Monsignor Farrell High School, Class of 2023 - A guard that likes to stay on the perimeter and looks to stay open for a shot. Is able to make big plays on the defensive end, as he has good hands that also aid in him obtaining steals. Has the ability to play off the ball and anticipate passes when in the lane and scoring. Always looks to shoot from long range when he has the opportunity.

Kenneth Maira, 6-3, Forward, Monsignor Farrell High School, Class of 2024 - A forward that is able to put the ball on the floor and is able to post up on the opposition because of his frame. Has the ability to obtain rebounds and is able to hit his teammates with passes that could lead to baskets. With his ability to box out, makes it easy for his teammates to get rebounds and creates opportunities to score. Also, has a nice shooting touch from 15 feet.

Paul Scalisi 6-3, Forward, Monsignor Farrell High School, Class of 2023 - A forward that is counted on to do many things on the court. Is very active on the boards and is able to get open when it comes to getting passes and will cut to the basket efficiently. Is also able to kick out passes to his teammates, as they are able to drive to the basket easy and score.

Andrew Melilo, 6-0, Point Guard, Monsignor Farrell High School, Class of 2023 - A guard that has excellent court vision and knows when to attack the lane on the offensive end. Is able to slow the game down or can speed it up. Has the ability to set up his teammates for baskets when they are in the right places at the right time.

Jacob Roman 6-2, Shooting Guard, Nazareth High School, Class of 2024 - A guard that has the ability to do plenty of things when on the court. Is able to hustle for loose balls and rebounds and gives maximum effort every time he is out on the court. Is able to drive to the basket and can finish at the basket. Has a nice shooting touch when he’s on the perimeter. Has a great defensive presence, as he can also block shots.

Juelz Dickerson 6-5, Shooting Guard, Nazareth High School, Class of 2023 - A guard that has the ability to make great decisions when on the court. Is able to make good drives to the basket and is fearless when going up for two. Is able to shoot from long range when he has the opportunity to be open or when he trusts his instincts.

Elijah Witter 6-2, Shooting Guard, Nazareth High School, Class of 2024 - A guard that has the ability to make his presence felt on the floor at all times. Is a player that has the ability to shoot at a high volume, especially when on three-point range. Is able to attack the lane and can drive to the basket and finish for two.

Andre Prescott 5-10, Point Guard, Nazareth High School, Class of 2023 - A guard that has proven himself as a leader, as he is able to make his presence felt with his ability to score. Has the ability to shoot from long-range and is very shifty when getting down court. Is fearless when he goes to the basket, as he is able to finish efficiently. Has the ability to distribute the ball to his teammates with ease.

Halon Rawlings 6-6, Forward, Nazareth High School, Class of 2025 - A forward that has plenty of strength when on the floor and is able to obtain rebounds when on the floor for his squad. Has a penchant for being very explosive when going to the basket and is great at finishing in the lane. Has a great shooting touch, as he is able to hit his shots from the perimeter. Is also a great defender, as he is able to block shots.
