2023 CHSAA AA Championship Standouts

On March 12, RecruitTheBronx.com joined the big crowd at Carnesecca Arena on the campus of St. John’s University in the Jamaica section of Queens for the CHSAA AA championship game between the power houses Archbishop Stepinac and Cardinal Hayes. Having played each other three times before this game, both teams were ready to battle, especially since this was for the championship and an opportunity to play in the New York State Federation Tournament in Albany, New York in about two weeks. Throughout the game, both teams fought hard, but in the end, it would be Archbishop Stepinac taking it all, winning 69-66. Here are the standouts for the CHSAA AA game.


Johnuel Fland 6-3, Point Guard, Archbishop Stepinac High School, Class of 2024 - A guard that is able to take over a game when he has the ball in his hands and can do plenty of damage to the opposition if he is not guarded heavily. Has excellent court vision and is able to find teammates whenever they’re open. Has the opportunity to shoot from long range and can also drive to the basket with ease.


Jasiah Jervis 6-3, Shooting Guard, Archbishop Stepinac High School, Class of 2026 - A guard with plenty of confidence in his game and is able to give plenty of good minutes and energy on the court. Is able to get down court easily and is always ready to take advantage of whatever opportunity he may have to shoot. Knows when how to get past his defender off the dribble and makes smooth moves to the basket.


Danny Carbuccia 6-0, Shooting Guard, Archbishop Stepinac High School, Class of 2025 - A guard that has the ability to put on a big performance when he’s on the court. Is able to drive to the basket and is able to absorb contact when going to the basket. Has a nice shooting touch from three-point range and has the ability to distribute the ball to his teammates to put them in position to score.


Jordan Gabriel 6-8, Forward, Archbishop Stepinac High School, Class of 2024 - A forward that is strong and can make his presence felt in the low post. Has the ability to put the ball on the floor and can show off his versatility by driving to the basket and absorbing contact in the lane. Is able to attack the glass when it comes to obtaining rebounds.


Benjamin Lyttle 6-5, Forward, Archbishop Stepinac High School, Class of 2023 - A forward that is a force in the low post and can make big plays on the court for his team. Is a player that can use his physicality on both ends of the court and is able to box out and obtain rebounds. Is always ready to anticipate a pass and can go up strong and finish at the basket and can also provide tip-ins.


Ian Jackson 6-6, Shooting Guard, Cardinal Hayes High School, Class of 2024 - A guard that has the ability to make plays when he’s on the court. Is able to create for himself off the dribble and can find ways to get open on the perimeter. Is able to drive to the basket easily and can finish strong. Is also a solid defender and can stick with his man when on the floor.


Elijah Moore 6-3, Shooting Guard, Cardinal Hayes High School, Class of 2024 - A guard that is a prolific scorer whenever he is on the floor. Has the ability to come off screens and shoot from long range every time he is on the court. Has the ability to get to the basket and is a good finisher when going to the basket.


Jaiden Williams 6-3, Forward, Cardinal Hayes High School, Class of 2023 - A forward that is very versatile and is able to make an impact on his teammates every time he’s on the floor. Has the ability to make his presence felt on the boards and has a long wingspan that aids in him obtaining steals. Is a player that can drive to the basket and can also hit jumpers.


Adam Njie, Jr 6-3, Point Guard, Cardinal Hayes High School, Class of 2024 - A guard that has plenty of speed in his game and has good decision-making skills on the court. Has the ability to go to the basket and is shifty with his quickness. Shows plenty of grit on the court and will stay on his man when he’s on the defensive end. Is a great finisher when going to the basket for two.


Steven Solano 6-11, Forward, Cardinal Hayes High School, Class of 2024 - A forward that has the ability to establish his presence when on the floor. Has plenty of length and size on the floor and is able to use his height as an asset, as he can block shots and snatch rebounds easily. Is a player that can get open and will anticipate passes so he can score when on the break or in the post.
