2023 PSAL AA Championship Standouts

On March 17, we got to the Barclays Center in downtown Brooklyn for the PSAL AA championship between Thomas Jefferson Campus and Eagle Academy II, two long time foes from Brooklyn. Both teams played each other three times prior to this matchup with the Eagles going 2-1. Throughout the game, it stayed close, with Eagle winning in nail biter, 66-65.  Senior guard, Eddie Munyak sealed it with a game winning jump shot. In winning the AA City title, Eagle will be going to the New York State Federation Tournament semifinals on Saturday. There they will take on the CHSAA AA champions, Archbishop Stepinac, at Shaker High School in Latham, New York.

Here are the standouts from the PSAL AA Championship game:


Treshawn Sheppard 6-6, Forward, Eagle Academy II, Class of 2023 - A LIU-Brooklyn commit. A forward that is a force in the low post area and is able to help his team in many categories. Is able to drive to the basket and score in precision. Finds ways to hold his own in the post when it comes to obtaining rebounds and blocking shots.


Eric Acker 6-1, Shooting Guard, Eagle Academy II, Class of 2023 - A guard that is a great decision-maker on the court. Knows when to look for his shot and can attack the basket at all times. Has a penchant for distributing the ball to his teammates when he’s on the floor. Has a penchant for being a leader on the court for his team and motivates them to do better on the floor. Is very athletic on the defensive end, as he will also go and get blocks.


Taj Bryant 6-2, Point Guard, Eagle Academy II, Class of 2024 - A guard that is able to make an impact in multiple ways on the court. Has excellent court vision and knows when take shots for his team. Is able to get down court easily and uses his speed to get to the basket or to get past his man.


Emarquis Jones 6-7, Forward, Eagle Academy II, Class of 2023 - A forward with a long wingspan and plenty of versatility in his game. Has the ability to obtain rebounds and use his length to keep the opposition in check. Is able to drive to the basket and score. Is always ready to make an impact when he’s on the floor.


Eddie Munyak 6-0, Shooting Guard, Eagle Academy II, Class of 2024 - A guard that has the ability to let it fly from long range at all times. Is able to move around off the ball and finds the ability to look for open passes. Has plenty of confidence in his shot, especially if the opposition is guarding him or not. Will never hesitate to take a shot he likes.


Anthony Isaac 6-7, Forward, Thomas Jefferson High School Campus, Class of 2023 - A forward that is very strong and is able to hold his own in the post area. Likes to back down the opposition and can back down a defender in the paint when it comes to him going up to score. Has a nice shooting touch from the perimeter.


Tywan Evans 5-8, Point Guard, Thomas Jefferson High School Campus, Class of 2023 - A guard that has a penchant for being a leader on the court. Has the ability to bring the ball up the court and has great court awareness every time he’s on the court. Is a player that has a penchant for sticking with his man on the defensive end. Has the ability to drive to the basket and is fearless when going up for two.

 

Tristan Davis ”>Tristan Davis 5-9, Shooting Guard, Thomas Jefferson High School Campus, Class of 2025 - A guard that has the ability to be a playmaker when he is on the court. Is a player that can step up and take a big shot from three-point range. Despite his small frame, he is able to make his presence felt, due to his outstanding play on the court. Is able to finish strong at the basket, and can get past multiple players.

 

Trevor Lewis 6-1, Shooting Guard, Thomas Jefferson High School Campus, Class of 2026 - A guard that has a penchant to play plenty of defense on the court and will do whatever his teammates need him to do in order for the squad to be effective. Likes to hustle for loose balls and will stick to his man on the defensive end. Has a penchant for drawing fouls and getting to the free throw line.

 

Connor Sprattley  6-0, Point Guard, Thomas Jefferson High School Campus, Class of 2025 - A guard that has the ability to make big plays when on the court and can score at will. Is able to make strong drives when getting to the basket at all times. Has great court vision, as he is able to distribute the ball to his teammates as they are streaking towards the basket.
