2023 Hoops Showdown Top Performers

On May 6, we got to the Bronx River Community Center in the South Bronx for the annual Hoops Showdown. This is an event that has been a staple in the New York City for the past few years, bringing some of the Tri-State area’s best to compete against each other. For the span of three high school games, there was plenty of excitement,  in the gym, as players matched basket for basket. For the fifth year in a row, Road to Riches would wind up winning the Championship. Here are the standouts from the games:


Youssouf Singare 7-0. Forward, Our Saviour Lutheran High School, Road to Riches, Class of 2023 (UCONN commit) - A forward that has the ability to run in transition despite his large frame. Is able to use his footwork efficiently and can make plenty of noise when on the floor. Has the ability to play above the rim and is able to knock down shots from at least 10 feet from the basket. He is also able to put the ball on the floor and get to the basket easily.


Armoni Ziegler 6-4, Shooting Guard, Our Saviour Lutheran High School, Road to Riches, Class of 2023 (St Peter’s University commit) - A guard that has plenty of explosion when going to the basket and is a player that can make plays on the offensive end. Is able to get down court with ease and has a penchant for thriving on the offensive end. Has good hands, which aid in him getting rebounds and blocking shots, as well as getting steals on the defensive end.


Daouda Cisse 6-7, Forward, James Monroe High School Campus, Road to Riches, Class of 2023 - A forward that has the ability to make good plays on both ends of the floor. Has the ability to make his presence felt in the post area with his strength and his ability to put the ball on the floor. Has the ability to finish with strength around the basket.


Jalyke Gaines-Wyatt 6-0, Shooting Guard, Piney Woods School (MO), Road to Riches, Class of 2023 - A guard that has the ability to make his presence felt with his guard play when on the floor. Is able to distribute the ball to his teammates when he’s on the court. Is fearless when it comes to shot-making opportunities and loves to drive to the basket.


CJ Riley 6-0, Point Guard, Scotland Campus Prep, (PA), 2G’z, Class of 2023 - A guard that has the ability to make great plays off of a quick first step. Has excellent court vision and can make sure that his teammates are involved throughout the game. Is able to drive to the basket and finish at the hole. Is able to finish at the perimeter.


Tylik Weeks 6-7, Forward, Scotland Campus Prep (PA), 2G’z, Class of 2023 - A forward that has the ability to make his presence felt in the low post with his strength. Is able to muscle his way to the basket and can play above the rim when going up for two. Brings plenty of energy to his team’s flow.


Josh Pascarelli 6-2, Shooting Guard, St. Francis Preparatory High School, GTA, Class of 2023 (Marist College commit) - A guard that has plenty of energy when on the court. Has the ability to showcase his athletic prowess when he’s open on the break on the offensive end. Is fearless as he takes no prisoners and is always ready for a big opportunity to make an impact on the court with his playmaking ability.


Ty-Laur Johnson 6-0, Point Guard, Our Saviour Lutheran High School, GTA, Class of 2023 (University of Memphis commit) - A guard that has excellent court vision and is able to showcase his playmaking ability to the fullest. Has the ability to showcase his athleticism, as he can also go up for a dunk. Is a great distributor when it comes to his teammates going towards the basket.


Seydou Traore 6-6, Forward, Our Saviour Lutheran High School, GTA, Class of 2023 (Manhattan College commit)- A forward that has plenty of strength and is able to make his presence felt, due to his muscular ability. Is able to use his strength to obtain rebounds and loves to throw down impressive dunks. Can also put the ball on the floor and drive to the basket.


Tai Turnage 5-11, Point Guard, St. Raymond High School, OTN, Class of 2025 - A guard that is a great asset to his team whenever he is on the floor. Is able to distribute the ball to his teammates efficiently and get them involved. Is able to get past the opposition with a quick first step and is able to finish with strength.


Brandon Williams 6-8, Forward, Christ the King High School, OTN, Class of 2023 (UCLA commit) - A forward with plenty of size and plenty of skill. Is able to put the ball on the floor and can muscle his way past the opposition for a layup. Is able to obtain rebounds and run efficiently on the fast break. His toughness is a valued asset to his team.
