2018 New Haven Senior Showcase

With several college coaches from Rhode Island and Connecticut on hand, the top 20 New Haven area seniors had an excellent opportunity to showcase their skills Saturday night at Amistad High School.  Some players left the gym with new invites from college coaches for campus visits this fall.  Other players garnered interest as well, and had the recruiters taking notes and posing questions to the event organizers.

Top Performers:

AJ Edwards, Amistad HS.  The 1st team All-State PG drew positive reviews from each college coach in attendance.  In the first two quarters of action, he led all scorers with 17 points on 7 of 8 shooting.  Edwards demonstrated the ability to score from behind the arc, on mid-range pull-ups, and at the rim, while simultaneously creating scoring opportunities for teammates.

Kyle Daniels, Wilbur Cross HS.  Daniels, an All-Conference performer last season, also caught the eye of at least one college coach for his strong, steady, and heady guard play.  Showed he could score at the rim and from outside.

Fabian Cox, Hamden HS.  6’6” strong, athletic, mobile big man was active on the boards and demonstrated an ability to face up and score, in addition to running the floor well.

Other Notable Performances:

Jordan Williams, Career HS.  6’5” all-conference big man displayed a nice combination of footwork and athleticism.

Jaiden Kimbro, Notre Dame-West Haven HS.  6’2” shooting guard aggressively attacked the paint and created his own shot, as well as showing good defensive instincts.

Quannel Straughter, West Haven HS.  Speedy guard was aggressive and effective on both ends of the floor, in particular with penetrating drives into the paint.

Shante Gause, West Haven HS.  6’3” athletic wing player was active in all phases of the game and demonstrated an ability to get out and run on the break and finish at the rim.

Justin Radford, Hamden HS.  6’6” athletic forward with soft hands and explosive ability to finish in the paint had the look of a solid college prospect.

Bangaly Cherif, Notre Dame-West Haven HS.  6’7” big man with good hands looked like another solid prospect with shot blocking and good finishing skills.
