Tru Ballaz Top Players Notes (9/18/18)

By David Cordova

On a Tuesday night at the Tru Ballaz High School Classic, we caught a game between the defending PSAL Bronx Borough champions, Eagle Academy, and the defending CHSAA and New York State Federation champions, Archbishop Stepinac. In a battle between teams from the Catholic and public school systems, Eagle would emerge victorious with a 56-49 victory. Here are the standouts from that game:

Malcolm Chimezie, 6-7, Forward, Archbishop Stepinac High School, Class of 2021 - A player with a long wingspan and is physically imposing. Has ability to either block or challenge shots in the lane. Is great rebounder and has really good mobility for an undersized big.

Julian Arzu, 6-2, Shooting Guard, Eagle Academy, Class of 2019 - A player that slashes to the basket. Struggles with finishing baskets, but runs up and down the court well. A player that knows his role and provides plenty of good minutes for his team.

Vernon Simmons, 6-4, Small Forward, Eagle Academy, Class of 2020 - A player that has a lot of athletic ability and is not afraid to go the basket. Has ability to block shots and grab rebounds. Also has speed and agility, yet struggles with a jumper.

Adrian Griffin, Jr., 6-6, Forward, Archbishop Stepinac High School, Class of 2021 - A player with a long wingspan that can put the ball on the floor & has good skills. Has a streaky jumpshot. Has plenty of athleticism when going up in the lane.

Michael Cordero, 6-0, Point Guard, Eagle Academy, Class of 2020 - A guard that possesses quickness and is a tough-defender. Also has plenty of range from three-point land.

Da’Marco Watson, 6-3, Point Guard, Eagle Academy, Class of 2020 - Has plenty of playmaking ability & has flashiness in his game. Has plenty of good basketball IQ & moves well without the ball in his hands.

Justin Morety, 6-1, Point Guard, Archbishop Stepinac High School, Class of 2020 - Has plenty of point guard skills and is a great facilitator for his teammates. Is also very quick and deceptive when it comes to offense and defense.

Kevin Wilson, 6-2, Shooting Guard, Eagle Academy, Class of 2021 - A player that has plenty of hustle in his game, as he plays tremendous defense and helps his team by making clutch plays on both ends of the court.
