2018 The Great 8 - Top Players

On Saturday Recruit The Bronx was on hand to watch the first day of The Great 8, a two day high school boys basketball showcase of four AA Public vs 4 AA Catholic programs at South Shore HS in Brooklyn, NY. The event was run by Coach Shawn Mark. Here are our top prospects:

Jaylen Davis 2019 6’3 Shooting Guard Cardozo -  confident scoring guard, crafty finisher on the drive who can score thru traffic. Murray has an array of moves off the dribble and out of triple threat to break down his defender.  Nice pull up jumper and he is the main option on offense. Decent perimeter defender with quick hands.

Jamal Watkins 2019 6’6 Power Forward Cardozo - can finish thru contact down low, decent post moves but can be more consistent. Big body carves out space on the block. Boxes out well for rebounds on both ends. Needs to trim down more which will improve his overall athleticism and stamina. Needs to secure the ball better under pressure down low.

Aaron Miller 2020 6’4 Small Forward Cardozo - good patience offensively, doesn’t rush himself. Good defensive instincts uses his length to his advantage, stays with the play on both ends. Needs to add muscle, needs to be more aggressive offensively and look for his shot more.

Alex Colka 2019 6’7 Power Forward Cardozo - good rebounder, runs the floor well, vocal on defense. Decent post moves but doesn’t finish well, solid body. Needs to be more aggressive on both ends. Needs to be more consistent finishing inside.

Shawn Fulcher 2021 5’10 Point Guard Xavierian - a lightning quick guard with a quick handle, good change of pace, good footwork with his dribble. Uses foot misdirection to create driving lanes, quick first step, good court vision. Will get better with more experience. Always in attack mode offensively. Decent perimeter defender. Not afraid to take contact on the drive but as his size needs to pick easier and more effective attempts. Needs to be under control on his drives but makes strong attempts, needs to distribute more has the tools to be a exceptional passer.

Femi Odukale 2019 6’5 Wing South Shore - can score on all 3 levels, good catch and shoot 3pt shooter. Can finish thru contact and traffic on the drive, natural passer, moves his feet well on defense, quality perimeter handle, athletic rebounder, stays with the play on both ends.

Isaiah Richards 2019 6’9 Center South Shore - athletic finisher inside, is a rim protector has great timing on his blocks.  Quick hands on defense can blast up and contain perimeter players, plays the passing lanes, runs the floor hard, athletic rebounder, long arms. Needs to add muscle to bang down low and secure the ball better in traffic

Dwight Davis Jr. 2019 6’0 Guard South Shore HS - good outside shooter can get hot from deep, good form and elevation on his jump shot. Crafty athletic finisher on the drive,  non stop motor hustles on both ends of the floor, strong body.

Kadary Richmond 2019 6’6 Small Forward South Shore HS - jump out the gym athleticism, athletic finisher at the rim, can score on all 3 levels, is a crafty slasher can finish thru contact, good handle on the perimeter. Decent playmaker. Good chase down blocker with his athleticism, plays good defense and has good hands, long arms.

Anthony Latty 2019 6’7 Power Forward South Shore HS - good rebounder, decent interior defender very active on that side of the ball. Runs the floor well. Long arms. Needs to catch the ball better in stride. Needs to be more consistent finishing inside.

Kesean Tracey 2021 5’9 Point Guard Monsignor Scanlan - shifty handle creates good separation with his dribble, quick first step can get to the rack in a hurry. Crafty finisher on the drive stays under control, very good playmaker for a young PG. Has good court vision and array of passes with both hands. Pesky perimeter defender. Good potential. Needs to add muscle, and become a less streaky shooter.

Ross Berreto 2021 6’0 Guard Wings Academy - crafty finisher on the drive, quick first step, has good footwork with the ball. Good handle, long and lanky frame. Needs to add muscle, and become a less streaky shooter.

RJ Green 2022 6’4 Small Forward Iona Prep - athletic finisher at the rim, can finish thru contact. Good midrange jumper, can handle the ball on the perimeter. Attacks the basket strong, good discipline on defense uses his length to his advantage, long arms, athletic build, very good potential. Needs to improve his outside shooting.

Shemani Fuller 2020 6’7 Forward Cardinal Hayes - athletic finisher on the fast break, athletic rebounder. Can block shots, runs the floor well, long and lanky frame. Still growing into his body needs to get stronger and improve his handle.

Joe Toussaint 2019 5’10 Point Guard Cardinal Hayes - one of the top guards in NYC, confident floor general who knows when to the push the pace and when to slow it up. Quick and tight handle keeps defenders off balance. Strong athletic finisher, tough perimeter defender, non stop motor on both ends. Needs to distribute more.

Jaylen Murray 2021 6’0 Guard Cardinal Hayes - good outside shooter who can get hot from deep. Creates good separation off the dribble and screens, shifty handle, very smooth offensive game. Needs to get stronger and distribute the ball more

Davonta “Tank” Cook 2019 6’0 Point Guard Brooklyn Law & Tech - almost impossible to stay in front of him. Super fast with the ball and very crafty. Good Jump shot.  Very Good Defender with quick hands…Needs to improve his decision making. Sometimes tries to be too flashy instead of making the simple play.

Joseph Pena 2019 6’5 Forward Brooklyn Law & Tech - Displayed deft touch from the outside. If you leave him open from 3 it’s almost automatic. Tenacious rebounder and improved defender. Improved ball handler and creator of own shot. Needs to still improve his ball handling and move more without the ball when defenses start denying him.
