Tru Ballaz Top Players Notes 10/9/18

On October 9, Recruit the Bronx went to Frederick Douglass Academy III in the South Bronx to check out the action at Tru Ballaz and two games between St. Raymond (CHSAA) vs. Wings Academy (PSAL) and Boys & Girls (PSAL) vs. Cardinal Hayes (CHSAA). Here are the standouts from both games:


Luis Kortright, 6-3, Shooting Guard, St. Raymond High School, Class of 2020 - A guard that hustles for loose balls and is exactly expected to take a lot of shots. Has a strong shooting stroke from three-point range and can also get to the basket when left open.

 

Davonte Smith, 5-8, Point Guard, Wings Academy, Class of 2019 - A guard that can run the team & can run in transition. Has good instincts with finding the open man on the run. Struggles with shooting from long-range.


Jose Cuello, 6-0, Combo Guard, Wings Academy, Class of 2019 - A guard that can shoot from long range and drive to the basket with precision. Finds ways to get to the free throw line by absorbing contact and drawing fouls. Struggles with turning the ball over in transition.


Jalen Reneau, 5-10, St. Raymond High School, Class of 2019 - A dangerous threat from three-point range and also a player that will look for steals and also loose balls. Has plenty of quickness when on the run. Great at giving his teammates the ball at the right possessions.


Tahron Allen, 6-4, Shooting Guard, St. Raymond High School, Class of 2021 - A player with long arms who is a strong presence on both ends of the court. Is a constant rebounder who will make tip-ins and will score when needed. Has plenty of toughness that helps his team.


Tommy Thomas, 6-1, Swing, Wings Academy, Class of 2019 - An athletic forward that runs well on the floor with guards, but also can make great stops on the defensive end. Is strong at blocking shots and also grabbing rebounds.

 

Mahamadou Nimaga, 6-0, Shooting Guard, Wings Academy, Class of 2019 - A player that has plenty of explosion and can attack the rim when given access to it. Has plenty of strength when it comes to rebounding and also getting back across the court on offense.


Malachi Smith, 5-10, Point Guard, St. Raymond High School, Class of 2021 - A guard that can slice and dice his way to the hole and is great at playing defense. A playmaker that knows how to distribute the ball, and will also find ways to get baskets.


Marquel Jackson, 6-3, Forward, Wings Academy, Class of 2019 - A player with long arms that moves well on the court and has long arms that help him on defense. Has a good shooting stroke from three-point range.


Adam Cisse, 6-9, Forward, Cardinal Hayes High School, Class of 2019 -
A forward that is a strong presence on the court on the defensive end. Struggles with getting his shot off from the perimeter, but makes up for that by blocking shots on defense.


Alec Jones, 5-9, Point Guard, Boys & Girls High School, Class of 2019 - A guard that has a good first step and can draw fouls and get to the line efficiently. Is very quick and deceptive with the ball.


Marcus Patterson, 6-0, Point Guard, Boys & Girls High School, 2019 - A guard that has plenty of fearless instincts around the basket. Is a good facilitator and knows how to get his teammates the ball at the right time. Also has a terrific outside shot when he is left open.


Khalif Napoleon, 6-6, Forward, Boys & Girls, Class of 2020 - A forward that has a lot of athleticism and toughness that helps his teammates. Is a solid rebounder and shot blocker. Great at finishing around the rim.


Jaylen Murray, 5-11, Point Guard, Cardinal Hayes High School, Class of 2021 - A player that makes good plays around the basket and has plenty of quickness. Has a good stroke from three-point range.


Julian Soumoro, 6-0, Shooting Guard, Cardinal Hayes High School, Class of 2020 - A player who gets to the basket, but has struggles with finishing with layups. Is also a great facilitator as he looks for open teammates to pass the ball to. Has a really good jumper, which can be detrimental to the opposition if left open.

 

Joe Toussaint, 6-0, Point Guard, Cardinal Hayes High School, Class of 2019 - A guard who has deceptive quickness and is very strong and can attack the basket. Has struggles with shooting, but makes up for it with tough defense and being a facilitator.


Dorian Haynes, 6-2, Shooting Guard, Boys & Girls, Class of 2019 - A guard that can play tremendous defense and has a good floater. Attacks the basket and is also good at getting rebounds. Is a high energy guy and has a lot of enthusiasm on the court.
