2018 Tru Ballaz Playoffs Top Players

On Saturday afternoon, October 20, Recruit the Bronx took another trip to Frederick Douglass Academy III in The Bronx to check out the playoffs at the Tru Ballaz High School Classic. In the quarterfinals, there were three games between St. Raymond (CHSAA) and Monsignor Scanlan (CHSAA), Mount St. Michael (CHSAA) and Wings Academy, and the finale between Wadleigh (PSAL) and Brooklyn Law & Tech (PSAL). Here were the standouts from the three games:


Luis Kortright, 6-3, Shooting Guard, St. Raymond High School, Class of 2020 - A player who is fast and athletic. Struggles with turning the ball over and decision-making, but makes good decisions with the ball.


Koby Brea, 6-4, Shooting Guard, Monsignor Scanlan High School, Class of 2021 - A guard that is a potent three-point and is a player some size that can push the ball up the court. Makes good moves to the basket. A player that shoots at a high volume.


Matt Mayers, 6-8, Forward, Monsignor Scanlan High School, Class of 2019 - A player with good size & good upside, and also gets rebounds, but struggles with finishing inside and being aggressive when it comes to rebounding in the post.


Rodney Bailey, 5-8, Point Guard, Monsignor Scanlan High School, Class of 2020 - A guard that makes tough drives to the basket & makes plenty of hustle plays. Has plenty of quickness & is always alert when on defense.


Tahron Allen, 6-4, Shooting Guard, St. Raymond High School, Class of 2020

A player who has good court vision and can control the pace for his team. A player who gets to the basket efficiently and goes up strong every time.


Gary Grant, 6-6, Forward, St. Raymond High School, Class of 2020 - A player with a lot of explosion and plenty of length. Is able to move well on the floor with his size and can attack the boards. Is able to go to the basket and absorb contact to draw fouls.


Michael Green III, 5-11, Point Guard, Mount St. Michael Academy, Class of 2019 - A small, diminutive player that can do plenty of things on the floor. Has good defensive posture and looks to guard the opposition’s best player at all times.


Ibrahim Wattara, 6-5, Forward, Mount St. Michael Academy, Class of 2020 - A player that has plenty of strength and has good size. Struggles with handling the ball in transition. Is great at grabbing rebounds and also being able to draw fouls.

 

Jose Cuello, 6-0, Shooting Guard, Wings Academy, Class of 2020 - A guard that shoots at a high volume. Someone that knows how to penetrate and go into the hole for baskets. Struggles with decision-making when it comes to attacking.


Davante Smith, 5-8, Point Guard, Wings Academy, Class of 2019 - A guard that makes tough drives to the basket and can draw fouls. Is a great facilitator and knows how to control a team.


Sage Borbon, 5-7, Point Guard, Mount St. Michael Academy, Class of 2019 - A quick guard that knows how to get baskets in transition. Plays good defense and shows a lot of hustle and looks to make plays. Able to run a team on the fast-break. Is a speed demon on both ends of the court & also looks to get steals.


Tommy Thomas, 6-1, Forward, Wings Academy, Class of 2019 - A swingman who plays bigger than his height and can provide explosion to a team. Has a good shooting stroke from long-range. Is efficient at grabbing rebounds and holding down the post.

 

Mahamadou Nimaga, 6-0, Shooting Guard, Wings Academy, Class of 2019 - A player that has plenty of explosion and can attack the basket with quickness. Has plenty of strength when it comes to rebounding and also getting back across the court on offense. Is very efficient on the fast break.


Chris Jenkins, 6-7, Mount St. Michael Academy, Class of 2020 - A player with plenty of size & has good moves in the paint. An intimidator in the post. Has ability to block shots & reacts to opponents very quickly on defense.


Elijah Wynn, 6-0, Point Guard, Wadleigh Secondary High School, Class of 2019 - A guard that is good at penetrating and attacking the basket. Is really good at going up for a pull-up jumper.


Davonta Cook, 5-11, Point Guard, Brooklyn Law & Tech High School, Class of 2019 - A guard that has a good shooting touch. Plays tremendous defense & is a competitor on the floor. Struggles with lack of strength, but plays very hard and has toughness.


Calvin Jenkins, 6-1, Forward, Brooklyn Law & Tech High School, Class of 2020 - An undersized forward that is a ferocious rebounder and can put the ball in the hole. Great at boxing out and attacking the hole. Really good at blocking or altering shots.

 

Anthony Desmae, 6-3, Shooting Guard, Brooklyn Law & Tech High School, Class of 2019 - A guard that is a good player that hustles around the court. Can move well off the ball and can step out and shoot three-pointers. Has a good solid body that allows him to take charges and also absorb contact when going to the basket, which gives him the opportunity to draw fouls.


Marco Fardy, 6-3, Forward, Wadleigh Secondary High School, Class of 2019 - A guard with an strong frame that can absorb contact and get him to the hole. Finds a way to get baskets and is a good inside presence.


Andre By, 6-2, Shooting Guard, Wadleigh Secondary High School, Class of 2021 - A speedy guard that is great at bringing the ball up the court and seeing the court. Is effective at drawing fouls and getting to the free-throw line. Is good at slicing through the lane for layups.
