2019 Apparel Classic Top Perfomrers

This weekend, RecruitTheBronx.com made our way out to the Middle Village section of Queens for the fifth annual Apparel Challenge at Christ the King High School. We got a look at standouts from schools all over The City and Long Island. In the span of four games, we saw special talents from players from eight teams. Here were the standouts from Sunday’s event:


Jalen Smith, 5’8, Shooting Guard, Cardinal Hayes High School, Class of 2020 - Smith has plenty of physical strength and finds ways to make strong drives to the basket. He also possesses the ability to shoot jumpers from long range. As a defender, he has good hands and can force the opposition into turning the ball over.


Thomas Hoffman, 5’11, Shooting Guard, Cardinal Hayes High School, Class of 2020 - Hoffman possesses a lethal jumpshot. Runs hard up and down the court every possession. Struggles with and lack of strength and forcing his shot at times.


Joseph Peña, 6’5, Forward, Brooklyn Law & Tech High School, Class of 2019 - Pena can bang. Very good at backing down the opposition in the paint, but can also step out and shoot from long range. He can play either the three or four position.


Davonta Cook, 6’0, Point Guard, Brooklyn Law & Tech High School, Class of 2019 - Cook is a diminutive guard who has plenty of quickness and good ball handling skills. Possesses a lethal jumpshot from three-point range. Struggles with finishing at the basket consistently.


Jaylen Murray, 5’11, Point Guard, Cardinal Hayes High School, Class of 2021 - Murray’s ability to shoot from long range and make plenty of effortless plays makes him attractive to the next level. He shows plenty of quickness and is good at getting past defenders and getting to the basket with ease.


Tyler Stephenson-Moore, 6’3, Shooting Guard, Long Island Lutheran High School, Class of 2019 - Stephenson-Moore has plenty of explosion on offense and goes after the ball on both ends of the court. He has the ability to shoot from long-range, and also shows his athleticism on defense with his shot-blocking abilities.


Essam Mostafa, 6’9, Forward, Long Island Lutheran High School, Class of 2019 - Mostafa a powerful force in the paint. Goes up for baskets with precision. Grabs rebounds with reckless abandon and is very fearless in the low post. Shows that he has plenty of shot-blocking ability.


Alec Jones, 5’9, Point Guard, Boys & Girls High School, Class of 2019 -A point guard who has good playmaking ability and finds ways to get to the hole. Sometimes struggles with ball control. He has the ability to find teammates for passes.


Dorian Hayes, 6’2, Shooting Guard, Boys & Girls High School, Class of 2019 - Hayes is a player who gives his team some good energy on the floor. He is great at crashing for rebounds and also hustles up and down the floor. Goes to the hole efficiently and makes good moves to the baskets.


Jalen Celestine, 6’6, Forward, Long Island Lutheran High School, Class of 2020 - Celestine is a natural scorer . He is a dangerous shooter from long range and is great at getting to the basket. Excellent at crashing the boards for rebounds.


Femi Odukale Jr, 6’5, Shooting Guard, South Shore High School, Class of 2019 -  Odukale is tough as nails and is a skilled player. He crashes the boards and can also shoot from three-point range.


Isaiah Richards, 6’9, Forward, South Shore High School, Class of 2019 - Richards is a very physical specimen who can dominate a game in the low post. Possesses plenty of athleticism and has the prowess for blocking shots and grabbing rebounds.


Phillipps Joseph, 6’7, Forward, South Shore High School, Class of 2019 - Joseph can do plenty of damage on the floor and has a knack for attacking the rim. Has the ability to block shots and isn’t afraid to get physical in the low post.


Liam Drennan, 6’9, Forward, Chaminade High School, Class of 2019 - Drennant is a D1 rebounder and can attack the glass with force. He has good hands on defense and is good at deflecting passes. Moves well to the basket.


Jaquan Carlos, 6’0, Point Guard, Thomas Jefferson High School, Class of 2021 - Carlos is a guard that has finesse in his game and is a player that can get around his defender. Struggles with shooting from long-range. Makes smooth drives to the basket. Is able to hit teammates for good passes.


Jared Harrison-Hunte, 6’6, Forward, Christ the King High School, Class of 2019 - Harrison-Hunte is very physical in the low-post. Great at boxing out in the paint and grabbing rebounds. He is also a solid shot-blocker. Can handle the ball going down the floor and runs like a guard.


Quaran McPherson, 6’3, Shooting Guard, Christ the King High School, Class of 2020 - McPherson is hard-nosed and has a lot of hustle in his game. Finds plenty of ways to get to the basket. Is able to absorb physical contact when going to the basket.


Kevin Tabb, 6’1, Shooting Guard, Thomas Jefferson High School, Class of 2020 - A diminutive guard that shows plenty of hustle on offense. Good at rebounding and attacking the basket on offense. Has the ability to shoot from three-point range.


Nathaniel Curry, 6’5, Forward, Christ the King High School, Class of 2019 - Curry is a forward who is good at stepping out to shoot from about 15 feet wu=ith a great stroke. He is good at guarding at the wing and attacks the boards for rebounds.

 

Ryan Myers, 6’2, Shooting Guard, Christ the King High School, Class of 2020 - Myers is a guard who goes to the hole at all times. Struggles with making layups consistentl, but is a good clutch free throw shooter when going to the foul line. He also makes good passes to his teammates.
