2019 EYAC Beacon 158 Spring Fling Top Performers - 5/6

On Monday, May 6, RecruitTheBronx.com made our third visit to this spring’s Beacon 158 Tournament to check out some of the best high school teams from Queens, Long Island and The Bronx. Here are the standouts from Monday’s games:


Tahliek Taylor, 5-10, Point Guard, Martin Van Buren High School, Class of 2020 - Taylor is quick with his hands and is good at getting steals and is good at facilitating to his teammates. Is able to penetrate into the lane and can get past his defender. Struggles with finishing at the basket.


Dion Morris, 6-1, Shooting Guard, Far Rockaway High School, Class of 2020 - Morris likes to handle the ball on the perimeter and uses his strength to muscle his way to the basket. Can step out on the wing to anticipate the ball, but also play on the low block.


Jeremy Hutson, 5-11, Shooting Guard, Martin Van Buren High School, Class of 2021 - Hutson has plenty of finesse in his game and looks to get to the basket. Plays with plenty of effort and uses his quickness on both ends of the court. A player that loves to have the ball in his hands and likes to score.


Inderpreet Boneit, 6-4, Forward, Martin Van Buren High School, Class of 2020 - Boneit is solid in the low post and on the defensive end. Uses his size to intimidate the opposition into giving up the ball and can block shots as well as get rebounds. Establishes his presence in the low-post.


Kai Woods, 6-4, Forward, Far Rockaway High School, Class of 2019 - Woods makes smooth moves to the basket and can handle the ball on the perimeter. Although he lacks strength, he is able to get rebounds and run on the fast break down the court. Struggles with turning the ball over, but has a smooth jumper.


Allen Fordham, 6-2, Point Guard, Far Rockaway High School, Class of 2019 - Forham is a true facilitator for his team and knows where and when to pass the ball to his teammates. Has good hands, which enable him to get steals and glide to the basket. Struggles with his outside shot.


DaMarco Watson, 6-3, Shooting Guard, Eagle Academy, Class of 2020 - Watson makes aggressive drives to the basket and is a player that could shoot from long range. Is a scorer that can take advantage of a team’s defense and exploit their weakness.

 

Vernon Simmons, 6-4, Shooting Guard, Eagle Academy, Class of 2020 - Simmonds has a long wingspan that has plenty of explosion and has the ability to showcase his athleticism. Has great upper-body strength and can absorb physical contact when going to the basket. Is good at getting rebounds.


Errol White, 6-6, Forward, Cardozo High School, Class of 2020 - White is very strong and uses his large frame to get his way in the low post. Is able to put the ball on the floor and penetrate into the paint. A big man that loves to score, but is also very versatile in many ways. Finds ways to get to the free-throw line.


Andrew Lang, 6-0, Point Guard, Cardozo High School, Class of 2020 - Lang has plenty of quickness and is a great distributor for his team. Loves to find his teammates when they are running in transition. Is also a bit of a scorer in his own right. Has a great jumper from three-point range. Is good at getting to the hole and makes good drives to the basket.


Aaron Miller, 6-5, Forward, Cardozo High School, Class of 2020 - Miller has a long wingspan and plenty of athleticism. Is very alert on the defensive end and is great at getting steals and getting blocks and also rebounds. Struggles with lack of offense, but is definitely a glue guy that will do the dirty work when his team needs it.


Anderson Nesbitt, 6-2, Swing, Eagle Academy, Class of 2020 - Nesbitt plays as an undersided forward , but plays a key role for his team, as he makes clutch plays like steals. Also has the ability to shoot jumpers and can also step in and grab rebounds in the paint area.


CJ McCullough, 5-8, Point Guard, Eagle Academy, Class of 2022 - McCullough is a little freshman guard that makes smart plays and has good court vision. He is also good at forcing the opposition into giving the ball up for steals. Struggles with finishing at the basket, but makes up for that with his masterful skills as a set up man.


D’Andre Edwards, 5-9, Point Guard, Deer Park High School, Class of 2021 - Edwards is a good playmaker and is capable of giving the open man the ball, which results in his teammates getting baskets. Is very quick on the defensive end and has good hands in getting steals.


Junius Johnson, 5-9, Shooting Guard, Deer Park High School, Class of 2020 - Johnson is defensive threat and knows where and when to be at on the court. Is very fearless when going to the basket and is able to absorb physical contact when going to the basket, which results in him getting to the free throw line.


Malik Edmead, 6-0, Point Guard, Deer Park High School, Class of 2020 - Edmead has a knack for making strong drives to the basket and is a solid defender as he has good hands and can play lockdown defense. Has plenty of quickness when going up and down the court on both ends.


Jaequan White, 6-4, Forward, Deer Park High School, Class of 2021 - White is a formidable presence in the paint area. His long wingspan in him getting rebounds and blocking shots. Although he struggles offensively, he helps his team’s cause with his defensive effort.


Michael Preseverlis, 5-7, Point Guard, Bayside High School, Class of 2021 - Preseverlis is tiny but tough and plays with plenty of fearlessness when going up to the basket. Great at getting his teammates the ball when he drives to the basket. Struggles with lack of strength, but makes up with it with toughness and determination.


Jonathan Andrelean, 6-3, Forward, Bayside High School, Class of 2020 - Andrelean is very alert on both ends of the court and has a long wingspan. Has a nice shooting touch from long range and can also penetrate into the paint and get to the basket easily.


Jimmy Oreste, 6-4, Bayside High School, Class of 2021 - Oreste, despite his limited mobility due to an injury, was still able to make an impact. With his size, he is able to overpower the opposition and can bang in the paint when it comes to rebounding and also blocking shots or going up for baskets. Is able to score easily in the low-post.
