2019 West 4th Street Classic - 5/27

On Monday, May 27, RecruitTheBronx.com returned to the West 4th Street Classic in the Greenwich Village. The games in “The Cage” which it is most commonly referred to, are tough and gritty and iconically reflects the New York City basketball culture. Here are the standouts from Monday’s games:


Duquan Patterson, 6-1, Shooting Guard, Brooklyn Democracy Academy, Bobcats, Class of 2020 - Patterson is a small guard that is quick on his first step and looks to find ways to score. Makes smart decisions on the court and looks to get steals and finds his way to the free throw line.


Yarayah Evans, 6-6, Forward, Next Level Prep (KS), Brooklyn Avengers, Class of 2019 - Evans is an imposing presence in the paint area as he is a good rebounder and also can put the ball on the floor. Finds ways to get to the hole. Also has a lot of strength and is a workhorse in the post.


Isaiah Richards, 6-9, Forward, South Shore High School, Brooklyn Avengers, Class of 2019 - A physical forward who can make a huge impact when he’s on the floor. Has good hands that result in him getting blocks and rebounds. Has the ability to play above the rim.


Anahijae Cooke, 6-5, Shooting Guard, Charlotte Basketball Academy (NC), Brooklyn Avengers, Class of 2019 - Cooke loves to handle the ball and glide his way through the basket. Is long and athletic and likes to run the court. Good at getting to the hole. Has plenty of strength and uses it to absorb physical contact when in the lane.


Jaquan Carlos, 6-0, Point Guard, Thomas Jefferson High School, Zero Dark Thirty Fam, Class of 2021 - Carlos loves to take over a game. Is a crafty ball handler who likes to shoot from the perimeter and likes to get to the basket. Good at facilitating the ball to his teammates. Likes to use his speed.


Kevin Tabb, 6-0, Shooting Guard, Thomas Jefferson High School, Zero Dark Thirty Fam, Class of 2020 - Tabb has plenty of speed and quickness that loves to get to the hole. Has an affinity for scoring and will find a way to get his points. Has good hands on the defensive end.


Kadary Richmond, 6-6, Shooting Guard, South Shore High School, Zero Dark Thirty Fam, Class of 2019 - Richmond is a big guard who can take over a game with his penchant for breaking down his defender and getting past him for a basket. Is very athletic and plays above the rim. Struggles with shooting from long range.


Jeremy Moranta, 5-10, Point Guard, Transit Tech High School, Wildcats, Class of 2020 - Moranta has great passing instincts and is very quick when getting up and down the floor and has the ability to shoot and is a good rebounder for his size. Very active on the defensive end, but can sometimes get caught in foul trouble.


Calvin Jenkins, 6-1, Shooting Guard, Brooklyn Law & Tech High School, Wildcats - Jenkins frequently gets steals and has a penchant for scoring and gives his teammates much needed energy on the court. Doesn’t hesitate to get in the low post and haul down rebounds.


Deshauntel Robinson, 5-8, Point Guard, Brooklyn Democracy Academy, Wildcats, Class of 2019 - Robinson is the ultimate competitor on the court. Plays tough defense and can take over offensively with his ability to get to the basket at will. Despite his small frame, he uses it as an advantage over bigger players with his quickness.


Shawn Fulcher, 5-11, Point Guard, Xaverian High School, Star Athlete, Class of 2021 - Fulcher is known for being a floor general as he is good at getting his teammates involved, but also has knack for scoring. Good at driving to the basket and also has great court vision. Very quick when running up and down the court.


Stephon Roberts, 6-9, Medgar Evers Preparatory School, Star Athlete, Class of 2019 - Roberts is a 6’9 forward who has plenty of skills and can bang in the paint. A good ball handler that can put the ball on the floor and is also good at playing above the rim. Is good at protecting the rim by blocking shots and is a solid rebounder.


Jaden Peña, 6-5, Forward, Xaverian High School, Star Athlete, Class of 2021 - Pina likes to run up and down the court and provides plenty of energy and effort when he’s on the floor. Finds plenty of ways to get to the free throw-line and is able to get into the paint and outmuscle others for rebounds.


Matthew Pèrez, 6-0, Shooting Guard, Harry Van Arsdale High School, Star Athlete, Class of 2019 - Pèrez is very deceptive and can get past the opposition. Is great at facilitating the ball to his teammates. Has an affinity for shooting from long range.


Dino Mousios, 5-10, Shooting Guard, Cardozo High School, Spartan Pride, Class of 2020 - Mousios makes hustle plays and is very good at rebounding and doing all the little things that he is needed to do. Good finisher at the basket, but is also a great shooter.


Errol White, 6-6, Forward, Cardozo High School, Spartan Pride, Class of 2020 - White uses his length and physicality to hold his own in the paint. Good at grabbing rebounds and has plenty of energy on the court and liked to run up and down the floor. Has the ability to score when going to the basket.


Aaron Miller, 6-5, Forward, Cardozo High School, Spartan Pride, Class of 2020 - Miller has plenty of length and athleticism. Is always alert on the defensive end and has great hands as he is often getting steals, blocking shots and rebounding. Runs the floor hard every time and finds ways to score. Has the ability to play above the rim.


Andrew Lang, 6-0, Point Guard, Cardozo High School, Spartan Pride, Class of 2021 - Lang is quick and is great at making decisions, such as when to shoot and when to pass. Has the ability to make strong drives to the basket. Sometimes struggles with defensive assignments on the floor.


Nick Traill, 6-0, Valley Stream South High School, Spartan Pride, Class of 2020 - Traill is a good defender and also has an affinity for shooting from long range. Shows plenty of effort into getting to the basket and penetrating into the lane. Is also a good defensive player that comes up big with steals and staying with his man.


Jaden Dowdell, 6-3, Forward, Cardozo High School, Spartan Pride, Class of 2022 - An undersized forward who can hold his own in the low post as he can box out and get rebounds and put backs. Is a solid rebounder that is always good at positioning in the paint. Provides plenty of effort when it comes to scoring in the post.
