2019 FunSport Summer League Top Performers - 8/12

On Monday, August 12, RecruitTheBronx.com paid a visit to Tillary Park in downtown New York City for the Funsport High School Classic, where high school teams from the five boroughs are playing in a tournament as a prelude to the high school season. Here are the standouts from Monday’s games:


Gabe Holley, 5-8, Point Guard, Benjamin Banneker Academy, Class of 2021 - Holley is a shifty guard who can run a team and has excellent court vision. Has the ability to get to the basket easily and knows how to get his shot off efficiently. Is fearless when going to the basket.

 

Tyler Gordon, 6-6, Forward, Benjamin Banneker Academy, Class of 2020 - Gordon has plenty of strength and is a powerhouse in the low post and is able to block shots and obtain rebounds. Has the ability to absorb physical contact and is a solid when going up to score in the paint.

 

Tajuan Simpkins, 6-2, Shooting Guard, Benjamin Banneker Academy, Class of 2021 - Tajuan has the ability to get to the basket. Has the ability to run in transition and can get up and down the court in just a few seconds. Has plenty of hustle in his game, which includes him getting rebounds.

 

Takai Simpkins, 6-2, Shooting Guard, Benjamin Banneker Academy, Class of 2021 - Takai loves to score and is able to get to the hole easily. Is very fearless when going to the basket and knows where and when to attack the basket. Also has a good defensive presence on the floor and is very alert.

 

Nathaniel Pericles, 6-4, Forward, Benjamin Banneker Academy, Class of 2020 - Pericles has good hands and Is able to see the ball when it is up for a rebound. Has the ability to block shots and is a very physical presence in the paint. Is fearless when going up for a basket and is able to absorb physical contact.

 

Jordan Council, 5-11, Shooting Guard, Summit Academy, Class of 2020 - Council is very ball dominant and is able to get his shot off efficiently and is able to score at will. Is a very dangerous shooter from three-point range and can burn the opposition when left open. Is a tough scorer that is able to create for himself.

 

Soumara Sylla, 6-0, Shooting Guard, Sunmit Academy, Class of 2020 - Sylla has plenty of hustle in his game and looks to get steals and rebounds in the low post. Finds ways to stay involved in the game and is able to be an asset to his team through his hard work.

 

Donte Howard, 5-9, Point Guard, Summit Academy, Class of 2020 - Howard is good at involving his teammates and has a great IQ when on the court. Has the ability to control the tempo of the game and is able to give his teammates the ball and also has the ability to score by getting to the basket.

 

Treshawn Sheppard, 6-5, Forward, Summit Academy, Class of 2023 - Sheppard is very strong and uses his build as a way to intimidate the opposition. Is a force in the paint that is a solid rebounder and shot-blocker. Is also able to score in the paint as well.

 

Carson Small, 6-3, Forward, Bedford Academy, Class of 2020 - Small is an unbder-sized forward who is able to impose his will on the opposition by boxing out in the low post and is able to show that he is an enforcer in the paint. Is good at letting his hook shot off efficiently and is dominant on the glass when going up for rebounds.

 

Jaylen Gilmore, 6-0, Shooting Guard, Bedford Academy, Class of 2020 - Gilmore gives plenty of maximum effort and is a vocal leader on the court. Has a good handle and looks to score at all times. Is able to get to the basket easily. Is very quick and has a good IQ and can also pass the ball to his teammates.

 

Kelechi Okworogwo, 6-6, Forward, All Hallows High School, Class of 2021 - Okworogwo is a dominant force in the low post that can crash the boards for rebounds and block shots. Has the ability to shoot from long range and has a long wingspan. Likes to play above the rim.

 

Eric Dukes, 6-2, Forward, Curtis High School, Class of 2021 - Dukes is undersized, but has a very strong build and can attack the glass for rebounds against high school sized opponents. Has the opportunity to get to the hole, draw contact and get to the free throw line. Takes pride in going to the free throw line and capitalizes on the opportunities.


Mike Oyenkanmi, 6-4, Forward, Curtis High School, Class of 2022 - Oyenkami has a lot of explosion in his game, and is able to score at will. Is a player that loves to play above the rim is able to show off his athleticism on both ends of the court. Has good hands and will get rebounds and showcases his toughness when in the low post.

 

Eric Jarecki, 6-0, Shooting Guard, Curtis High School, Class of 2021 - Jarecki knows how to create for himself and is a good passer. However, his best attribute is his shooting from three-point range. When left open, he will bury the opposition with his shooting.


Jordan Williams, 6-2, Point Guard, Medgar Evers Preparatory School, Class of 2021 - Williams has good court vision and knows when and where to set up his teammates for passes. Is good for shooting from long range and is a solid scorer. Is very ball-dominant on the offensive end, but also has good hands on the defensive end.

 

Rashawn Clemente, 6-3, Shooting Guard, Stevenson High School, Class of 2020 - Clemente is very explosive and gets to the basket in multiple ways. Has plenty of athleticism and is able to create for himself on the offensive end. Has the ability to get play above the rim and is also a solid rebounder.

 

O’Zhell Jackson, 6-7, Forward, Stevenson High School, Class of 2021 - Jackson has length and is very versatile on both ends of the court. Is great at bringing up the ball and handling the ball and also can post up smaller players. Also has the ability to pass the ball to his teammates. Is a good rebounder and can obtain blocks with his good hands on defense.

 

Ebenezer Ofei, 6-1, Shooting Guard, Westinghouse High School, Class of 2021 - Ofei is skilled and hard-working on the court. Plays very tough and efficient at crashing the boards despite his size. Has the ability to drive to the basket and finish. Is good at absorbing physical contact.

 

Terrell Mitchell, 6-2, Shooting Guard, Westinghouse High School, Class of 2021 - Mitchell is a lights-out shooter from long range. Is able to attack on the offensive end in multiple ways. In addition to his shooting prowess, he has the ability to make strong drives to the hole, which result in trips to the free throw line. Is very quick on the defensive end as he is able to stay with his man at all times.
