2019 IS8 Fall Classic Top Performers - 9/14

On Saturday, September 14, RecruitTheBronx.com was in Jamaica, Queens for the IS8 Tip-Off Fall Classic, which is a fall league where many of the best talent in the area comes to compete before the high school season. Here are the standouts from Saturday’s games:


Quaran McPherson, 6-3, Shooting Guard, Christ the King High School, D1 Stars, Class of 2020 - McPherson is great at creating for himself and is able to get to the basket with ease. Loves to run in transition and is able to attack get into the lane with no problem. When going into the lane, he is able to draw fouls easily and has the ability to get to the free throw line.

 

Bretner Mutombo, 6-11, Center, The Patrick School (NJ), D1 Stars, Class of 2021 - Mutombo is very dominant in the low post and can take over the game in many ways with his size. Has great hands and is solid when it comes to getting rebounds & blocking shots. Takes ownership over the rim on the offensive end.

 

TJ Morris, 6-3, Shooting Guard, Nazareth High School, D1 Stars, Class of 2021 - Morris has a long wingspan and has the ability to take over the game in many ways. Is able to create for himself on offense and finds a variety of ways to get to the basket. He can also splash jumpers from the perimeter.

 

Sterling Jones, 5-10, Point Guard, Christ the King High School, D1 Stars, Class of 2021 - Jones has good court vision when it comes to distributing the ball and knows when and where to hand the ball to his teammates. Maintains a strong defensive presence on the other end of the court.


Lovell Smith, 6-1, Shooting Guard, Christ the King High School, D1 Stars, Class of 2020 - Smith is a strong asset to his team when he is on the floor, as he makes a lot of hustle plays and is very active when he’s on the court. He makes a lot of clutch baskets and steps up when his team needs him to do so. When driving to the lane, he is able to absorb contact and can draw a foul.

 

Simeon Wilcher, 6-3, Shooting Guard, Roselle Catholic High School (NJ), NJ Lions, Class of 2023 - Wilcher is very strong and has a lot of poise in his game. He is good at attacking the basket and makes strong drives to the hole. He also has the ability to shoot jumpers from the corner. Also shows athletic ability when he goes to the basket or gets rebounds.

 

Ahmad Robinson, 5-10, Point Guard, Roselle Catholic High School (NJ), NJ Lions, Class of 2020 - Robinson makes plenty of great decisions as far as directing a team. He knows when to score and also when to distribute the ball to his teammates. Also has plenty of quickness when in transition.

 

Corey Floyd, 6-3, Shooting Guard, Roselle Catholic High School (NJ), NJ Lions, Class of 2022 - Floyd has plenty of strength when going up for a basket and also getting rebounds. Is a physical specimen that knows when and where to absorb physical contact when driving for a basket. Has the ability to show off his athleticism.

 

Joshua Rivera, 6-6, Swing, Roselle Catholic High School (NJ), NJ Lions, Class of 2021 - Rivera is big, strong and mobile. He has the ability to handle the ball whenever he’s on the floor. Has plenty of athleticism and has the ability to put the ball on the floor. Is counted on to obtain rebounds and get loose balls.

 

Amadou Diallo, 5-8, Point Guard, John Bowne High School, NYC Finest, Class of 2021 - Diallo has a penchant for breaking down his defender and scoring. He is able to shoot in a timely fashion and has a lot of speed in his game. He is able to distribute the ball to his teammates on the break and when they get open in the half court.

 

Cherif Diarra, 6-4, Swing, John Bowne High School, NYC Finest, Class of 2020 - Diarra can mix and match on the low block and knows how to put the ball on the floor from the wing. He has good hands and instincts on the court and has the ability to shoot from at least 15 feet. He is always alert and active when it comes to blocking shots and getting rebounds.

 

Aguibou Balde, 6-4, Forward, John Bowne High School, NYC Finest, Class of 2021 - Balde has good footwork and moves well on the low block. He also has the ability to put the ball on the floor and get past his defenders from the wing. Balde has good hands and attacks the boards in pursuit of rebounds, while he also finds ways to get blocks.

 

Tyshawn Trail, 6-2, Shooting Guard, John Bowne High School, NYC Finest, Class of 2021- Trail has a prolific scoring ability and can run on the fast break. He is able to penetrate into the lane with no problem and is very quick in transition. He also draws fouls easily when getting to the basket.

 

Takai Simpkins, 6-2, Shooting Guard, Benjamin Banneker Academy, Fearless Matrix, Class of 2021 -  Simpkins can score in multiple ways, able to get to the hole easily and shoot from long range. He loves to play on the perimeter and can take advantage of the opposition when he’s on the corner shooting threes.

 

Tajuan Simpkins, 6-2, Shooting Guard, Benjamin Banneker Academy, Fearless Matrix, Class of 2021 - Simpkins finds his way to the basket. He has plenty of speed and plenty of hustle in his game, which includes getting rebounds. He also loves to penetrate into the lane and is able to get to the free throw line by drawing fouls.

 

Tyler Gordon, 6-6, Forward, Benjamin Banneker Academy, Fearless Matrix, Class of 2020 - Gordon is a forward that is very strong and is a force in the low post. Is able to block shots and can grab rebounds. Is able to absorb physical contact when going up for a basket and is able to score efficiently.

 

Sal Saputo, 6-3. Shooting Guard, St. Mary’s High School, Class of 2020 - Saputo likes to shoot at a high-volume and can take advantage of the opposition when going to the basket. He is very strong at getting to the basket and can cause plenty of damage to the opposition when left open anywhere in the court

 

Jovayne Walters, 6-6, Forward, St. Mary’s High School, Class of 2020 - Walters that can be hard-to-guard for the opposition when given the ball in the low post. He is a banger who rebounds and blocks shots. A formidable, physical presence in the paint.

 

Nick Cham, 6-0, Shooting Guard, St. Mary’s High School, Class of 2020 - Cham can bring the ball up the court and is a good passer. He also has the ability to drive through the lane and get to the basket easily. He occassionally shows the ability to shoot from long range, but he relies mainly on getting to the hole.

 

Jackson McEachem, 5-10, St. Mary’s High School, Class of 2022 - A guard that does whatever his team needs him to do on the court, whether it is pressuring his defender or hustling for the loose ball. Also has good passing ability and takes shots when needed, but mainly defers to the needs of his teammates.
