Norman Thomas High 2019-20 Season Preview

The Norman Thomas Tigers are looking to return to the top of the PSAL Manhattan A1 division in 2019-2020. Head Coach Cecilio Gomez enters his third season at the helm and returns three key starters who are ready to step right in as leaders.

Coach Gomez has rebuilt the Norman Thomas program to have a defense-first mentality. His philosophy on positionless basketball calls for players to be versatile at guarding multiple positions as well as place his players into different roles on the offensive end that will lead to success.

Johan Yannick Nziemi ’20, will look to lead Coach Gomez’s versatile scoring attack. An athletic wing who can defend multiple positions and has an incredibly diverse offensive game that can beat you in multiple ways. Timothy Greene ’20 looks to solidify his place as one of the league’s most lethal outside shooters. The key to Greene’s game is his ability to improve his decision making. Lamine Cisse ’20 rounds out what should be a fierce Big 3 for the Norman Thomas Tigers.  Juniors Dominique Tayie ’21 and Jhereme Asamoah as well as Senior John Gaudji ’20 should help provide some much-needed depth to the Tigers rotation.

Norman Thomas has scheduled a really tough non-conference schedule, one which includes an appearance in the 2019 Holiday Hoops Showcase in New Jersey, which Coach Gomez feels will help his team take that next step during conference play.

Could this be the season in which Norman Thomas returns to the spotlight in New York City basketball?
