2019 The Preview Top Performers
Sunday, October 13 RecruitTheBronx.com was in attendance to see The Preview, a one day showcase of 18 high school boys basketball programs. The event was presented and hosted by Fordham Prep in the Bronx, NY. Here are our top prospects:
Andre Curbelo 2020 6’1 Point Guard Long Island Lutheran - High IQ PG, who has played at a high level in FIBA competition. Great playmaker who knows his personnel and how to get them going. High level floor general. Crafty and acrobatic finisher through traffic. Really adept at drawing contact and getting to the line. Consistent outside shooter. Disciplined perimeter defender, has quick hands on the ball and passing lanes.
Zed Key 2020 6’9 Center Long Island Lutheran - One of the best true post players on the country. Great post moves and is a consistent finisher inside. Extremely good footwork on post, very quick and nimble at his size. Has the strength and poise to finish thru traffic. Can finish over both shoulders. Strong rebounder. Good shot blocker. Controls the paint on both ends. Runs the floor well. Has a good hands. High IQ.
Jalen Celestine 2020 6’6 Wing Long Island Lutheran - Can score on all 3 levels. Has good footwork with the ball and creates good separation on the stepback. Quality outside shooter, good elevation. Athletic finisher on the drive. Good passer. Moves feet quickly on defense. Athletic build, long arms.
Drissa Traore 2021 6’7 Forward Long Island Lutheran - Long and lanky, uses his long arms to bother a lot of shots. He is an athletic shot blocker and rebounder, runs the floor like a deer. Good finisher on the break and drive. Has developed a good offense skill set to go along with his length and athleticism.
DeMarco Watson 2020 6’2 Point Guard Eagle Academy (BX) - Consistent finisher on the drive, finishes well thru traffic. Good pull up jumper off of screens and in the open space. Very good playmaker, sees the whole floor. Throws strong passes. Good patience with the ball he doesn’t rush the offense. Controls tempo and speed. Quality perimeter defender.
Vernon Simmons 2020 6’3 Wing Eagle Academy (BX) - High flyer, attacks the basket strong. Explosive leaper and has long arms. Athletic rebounder. High energy player. Contests drives well with his athleticism. Uses his length well on defense and on the boards. Alley-oop threat.
Koby Brea 2020 6’6 Combo Guard Monsignor Scanlan - a recent University of Dayton commit. Good court vision and shifty handle, wide crossover creates good separation. Can score on all 3 levels. Attacks hard on drive but is under control. Quality outside shooter. Good playmaker at his size. Can break his defender down off the dribble. Has filled out his frame nicely over the past season.
Joe Munden 2020 6’5 Wing Monsignor Scanlan - Athletic finisher on the drive. Good perimeter handle. Has improved his outside shooting, is now a threat from deep. Plays the passing lanes well, uses his long arms to his advantage. Swingman type of skill set, can score inside out.
RJ Greene Jr. 2022 6’5 Wing Iona Prep - Athletic finisher at the rim that can finish through contact consistently. Has a good midrange jumper. Slashes and attacks the basket strong. Good discipline on defense, uses his length to his advantage. Has long arms and an athletic body.
Majesty Johnson 2020 5’8 Point Guard Brooklyn Collegiate - One of the top Point Guards in NYC in his class. A true floor general who can set up teammates and see the floor. Quick and shifty handle, can create good separation off the dribble. Lethal outside shooter off the catch or dribble. Crafty finisher thru traffic on the drive. Pesky perimeter defender.
Jaylin Anderson 2020 6’5 Small Forward Brooklyn Collegiate - Finishes well on the drive. Very active on the boards uses his length and athleticism to his advantage. Has a good perimeter handle and quick first step. Finishes strong on the drive through contact. Good defensive instincts can defend inside and out, has long arms.
Tahron Allen 2021 6’3 Shooting Guard Brooklyn Collegiate - Attacks the basket strong and can finish through contact consistently, has good body control. Good slashing moves. Strong handle, nothing flashy but protects the rock. Plays quality perimeter defense, has active hands. Needs to be a more consistent outside shooter.
Shemani Fuller 2020 6’7 Forward Cardinal Hayes - Is an athletic finisher on the fast break. Athletic rebounder gives great effort on the boards. Can block shots. Runs the floor very well, long and lanky frame. Has improved his handle and developed good slashing moves from the perimeter.
Aaron Miller 2020 6’4 Small Forward Cardozo - Good patience offensively doesn’t rush himself, exploits the open space in the defense. Very good defensive instincts uses his length to his advantage, stays with the play on both ends. Good cutter, catches the ball in stride and finishes well.
JaQuan Carlos 2021 6’0 Point Guard Thomas Jefferson HS - One of the best PG’s in NYC. Crafty finisher with both hands on the drive, has an array of finishing moves. Good body control through contact and traffic. Good outside shooter, can get really hot from deep. Very strong handle, has the ball on a string. Good footwork with the ball, keeps defenders off balance. Good court vision distributes the ball well. Quality perimeter defender. High level floor general.
Andres Marrero 2021 6’4 Shooting Guard Upper Room Christian - A big size guard that can score on all 3 levels. Has good footwork out of triple threat on the perimeter. Is a crafty finisher on the drive and is adept at drawing contact. Can get hot from 3pt range. Good defender inside and out. Good rebounder for a 2-guard.
Patrick Shea 2020 6’1 Shooting Guard St. John’s Prep - Good outside shooter, good pull up jumper as well. Can create good separation off the dribble. Decent finisher through traffic.
