Archbishop Molloy 2019-20 Season Preview

By Robert Pena,

Coming off of what was a disappointing season last year, the Archbishop Molly High School Stanners are hoping to bounce back and be one of the top teams in the City. Per veteran head coach Mike McCleary, “I’m hoping we are in the top three or top four teams. We are young, but have the ability to be just that. It is just the matter of putting it all together. They are new to each other. At the beginning, it is going to be very slow, but by mid-February, we hope to be healthy and ready to play. I like that we are talented, but initially we will be trying to figure out who we are as a team.”

The Stanners’ front court players are Joey Medlin and Kawar Singh. Medlin is a 6’5 sophomore who will be a key new player this season. He is big and very offensively skilled in the post. Singh is another key new player, a 6’7 forward who transferred into Molloy in from St. Mary’s (Long Island). He also brings critical size and post scoring moves.

Other players in the Stanners’ rotation will be Abdias “Speedy” Carcamo, Michael Brown and Isaiah Grant. Carcamo is a 5’9 senior and a returning starter who averaged 14 ppg and shot 46 percent from three point last season. As his nickname implies, he is very quick and an excellent passer. Brown is a 6’3 senior, returning starter, who averaged 9 ppg last season. He is a very active force on the court. He can shoot it well and rebound. Grant is a competitor who hustles and can shoot the ball.

Abdias Speedy Carcamo is currently a NCAA Division I school recruit, and Michael Brown is seeing Division II offers.
