The Workout Top Performers - 10/23/20
On Friday night, RecruitTheBronx.com took a trip to Yonkers for a showcase called “The Workout” which was run by the Go Torey All Stars. GTAS is Torey Thomas’ program. Thomas is native of White Plains, played his high school ball in Connecticut, played college ball at Holy Cross University and then spent 13 years playing pro ball internationally.
Thomas threw this, his first, showcase in an attempt to try to fill in for the usual exposure opportunities that have been greatly reduced this year by the pandemic. This showcase hosted some of the best players in Westchester County, New York City and Northern New Jersey. Here are the standouts for the evening’s events:
Tymir Greene 6-0, Point Guard, White Plains High School, Class of 2021 - A guard that loves to direct his team and can also pass the ball. Has plenty of quickness, which allows him to get to the basket easily. Is great at getting steals and can run on the fast break.
Demarley Taylor 6-7, Forward, Mount Vernon High School, Class of 2022 - A forward that is dominant in the paint area. Has long arms and can make himself known to the opposition in the post. Is able to score easily and is great for getting rebounds.
Mekhai Woodbury, 6-0, Point Guard, White Plains High School, Class of 2021 - A guard that is able to facilitate on the offensive end and stay on his man on the defensive end. Has plenty of quickness and can see the floor. Has great passing instincts and good point guard IQ.
Ethan Berry, 5-9, Point Guard, Alexander Hamilton High School, Class of 2021 - A guard that has plenty of energy on the floor and can see the court well. Has a penchant for giving the ball to his teammates at the right time. Knows when to attack the lane and can absorb the contact.
Luke McCann 6-6, Forward, Briarcliff High School, Class of 2022 - A forward that has great moves and is very versatile. Is able to put the ball on the floor and makes great moves on the perimeter. Is not afraid of contact and finds many ways to score.
Amarri Tice, 6-5, Forward, Newburgh Free Academy, Class of 2021 - A forward that is long and athletic and sees the floor very well, due to his size. Is able to give the ball to his teammates efficiently & has great court vision. Is able to get to the basket efficiently and loves to run on the fast break.
Kristopher Edwards, 6-4, Forward, Teaneck High School (NJ), Class of 2021 - A forward with long arms and a wingspan that allows him to intimidate smaller defenders. Is a player that loves to hustle and will get to that loose ball easily.
Javel Cherry, 6-2, Point Guard, Poughkeepsie High School, Class of 2021 - A guard that has plenty of good guard skills. Is a guard that likes to drive to the basket and can also shoot from the perimeter. Is able to pass the ball well and can see where and when his teammates are moving at all areas of the court.
Ben Siegel 5-10, Point Guard, Briarcliff High School, Class of 2022 - A guard that has plenty of passing instincts and good basketball IQ. Is able to see where his teammates are moving on the floor. Has a penchant for shooting from long range.
Manny Barkor, 6-5, Forward, Mount Vernon High School, Class of 2022 - A forward that is undersized, but has plenty of toughness in his game. Is a player that can crash the boards easily and dominate the opposition with his strength. Loves to dribble and out the call on the floor.
Zaccai Curtis, 6-3, Shooting Guard, Poughkeepsie High School, Class of 2021 - A guard that has plenty of energy on the floor and is able to create for himself. Has a penchant for running on the fast break and is able to pass the back to his teammates and also get to the hole easily.
Promise Okporum 6-7, Forward, New Rochelle High School, Class of 2021 - A forward that is a force in the low post. Uses his strength to hold his own against the opposition and is able to corral rebounds in the low post. Is a player that uses his will to get after the ball, whether it’s blocking shots or playing above the rim.
Dominick O’Savio, 5-10, Point Guard, Mount Vernon High School, Class of 2021 - A guard that has great court vision. Has a knack for giving the ball to his teammates at the right spots. Is a player that can be considered as a true floor general.
Jackson Garcia 5-11, Shooting Guard, Ardsley High School, Class of 2021 - A guard that loves to shoot from long range and can be potentially stop when he’s left open. Has plenty of quickness when on the floor. Is a guard that can make many plays, including passing the ball.
Jaylen Savage, 6-2, Point Guard, Alexander Hamilton High School, Class of 2022 - A guard that has great playmaking abilities on both ends of the court. Knows when and where to pass the ball to his teammates. Has a knack for scoring in transition and can also get steals easily and get to the other side of the court with quickness.
Shelvon Grant, 6-3, Shooting Guard, Poughkeepsie High School, Class of 2021 - A guard that is very shifty and makes good decisions on the floor. Knows where and when to either keep the ball or pass the ball. Is great at getting to the basket and finishing.
Aliou Cisse, 6-4, Forward, Yonkers High School, Class of 2021 - A forward that has long arms and is very athletic. Has a great feel for the game and is very active in the boards. Makes great acrobatic layups to score and has great hands that enable him to block shots.
Xavier Ruillano 6-4, Forward, Mount Vernon High School, Class of 2021 - A forward that is very strong when in the post area and establishes his presence in the paint. Is able to bring the ball up and get to the lane efficiently. Has great athleticism that gives him the opportunity to get to the basket easily.
Kristan Lewis 6-2, Shooting Guard, Vision Academy, Class of 2021 - A guard that has plenty of strength and versatility. Has plenty of quickness and loves to drive to the basket easily. Knows when to take his shots and also when to pass the ball.
Dejon Hamilton, 6-5. Forward, Poughkeepsie High School, Class of 2021 - A guard that has great court vision and has long arms that allow him to corral rebounds. Is good at getting to the basket and loves to play above the rim. Makes it very easy to score and he is able to get past defenders.
