2020 Unsigned Hype Showcase Top Performers

On Sunday afternoon, RecruitThe.com Bronx got ourselves to Huntington Station, Long Island for the always relevant Unsigned Hype Showcase. This showcase was founded by and hosted by James Barrett, Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at Monroe College. This year, 100 of the Tri-state area’s best unsigned players came to play and showcased their talents in front of a live-stream of coaches of all levels watching virtually.

 

Here are the standouts from the day’s event:

 

Tahron Allen 6-4, Shooting Guard, Brooklyn Collegiate High School, Class of 2021 - A guard that has an edge of toughness to him and is a huge asset to his team. Is great at getting to the basket to score, but is also a great rebounder. Is very vocal on the floor and is able to move around without the ball, so that is he able to free himself for an open jumper.

 

Jacob Davitashvili, 5-5, Point Guard, Forest Hills High School, Class of 2021 - A guard that has a good energetic flow to his game. Has a penchant for launching jumpers from long range. Is hard to contain when allowed to get into the lane, due to his small frame and his quickness.

 

Daniel Rivera 6-6, Forward, Our Saviour Lutheran High School, Class of 2021 - A forward that has a great all-around game on both ends of the floor. On the defensive end, is always alert when the opposition is pulling up for a shot, and has great hands for blocks and rebounds. Is a player that loves to play above the rim, yet has a good shooting touch on the perimeter.

 

TJ Robinson, 5-11, Point Guard, Teaneck High School (NJ), Class of 2024 - A guard that is diminutive but plays bigger than his height. Is very poised when handling the ball on the perimeter and is good for making the easy pass and also highlight-reel plays. Has a penchant for shooting from long range.

 

Javel Cherry, 6-2, Point Guard, Poughkeepsie High School, Class of 2021 - A guard that is an excellent facilitator to his teammates. Has a penchant for kicking it out to the open teammate for a jumper or a streaking teammate that is going to the basket for two. Has a penchant for driving to the basket and going up for two.

 

Tarique Foster 6-8, Forward, Cardinal Hayes High School, Class of 2022 - A forward that has a long frame and isn’t afraid to show off his athleticism at any time. Is very active when it comes to the defensive end and knows how to attack the glass for rebounds. On offense, he has a nice pull-up jumper, but mostly plays above the rim.

 

Phil Grant 6-5, Forward, Summit Academy, Class of 2022 - A forward that has a large frame and can do many things on the court. Is very mobile and can put the ball on the floor and can dribble very well. Is a player that can score from the perimeter.

 

Andrew Laing 6-1, Shooting Guard, Cardozo High School, Class of 2021 - A guard that is great at finding ways to get to the hole and has excellent court vision. Loves to create off the dribble and has excellent passing abilities. Picks when he should make shots and when he should facilitate to his teammates.

 

Quame Smith, 6-6, Forward, Mount Vernon High School, Class of 2021 - A guard that is long and athletic and is fearless when going up for rebounds. Loves to run on the open court and is good for attacking in the lane. Is a player that can score at will if not guarded heavily.

 

Maximus Edwards 6-5, Shooting Guard, Our Saviour Lutheran High School, Class of 2021 - A guard that can create off the dribble and is a player that has plenty of explosiveness. Has a penchant for playing above the rim & can also block shots. Is a player that can make plenty of plays on both ends of the court.

 

David Teele, 6-2, Shooting Guard, Teaneck High School (NJ), Class of 2023 - A guard that loves to run the floor well and is very quick and deceptive. Is able to blow by defenders and give his teammates easy passes. Knows when to settle for good shots, especially if they are layups.

 

Justin Robinson 5-10, Point Guard, Mount Vernon High School, Class of 2022 - A guard that is quick and knows when to pass the ball and take shots. Has a penchant for attacking the lane and getting to the basket. Knows when to get his shots up from the corner.

 

Colin Cowan, 6-4, Shooting Guard, Mount St. Michael Academy, Class of 2021 - A guard that loves to bring the ball up and has excellent court vision. Plays to the speed of his teammates and can see where his teammates are going at all times in order to deliver them passes. Is good for shooting off the dribble.

 

Tobe Awaka 6-8, Forward, Cardinal Hayes High School, Class of 2022 - A forward that is very strong and is built solid in terms of his physical appearance. Is able to play above the rim & is great at attacking the glass and blocking shots. Has a penchant for putting the ball on the floor to dribble.

 

Randy Crosby 6-0, Point Guard, WHEELS, Class of 2021 - A guard that has a penchant for scoring in bunches and is a huge offensive threat. Is a guard that can break his defender off the dribble and is a good shooter from long range. Is a player that can get to the basket easily and is fearless when driving to the lane.

 

Tyliek Weeks 6-5, Forward, South Shore High School, Class of 2022 - A forward that has great footwork for his position and can attack the glass with force. Loves to put the ball on the floor and can drive to the basket. Is great for absorbing contact when going up for a basket.

 

Ansley Almonor 6-7, Forward, Our Saviour Lutheran High School, Class of 2021 - A forward that is smooth with his dribble and uses his strength and build to aid him in the low post. Is good at putting the ball on the floor and putting himself in the best position to score. Is great at attacking the glass for rebounds.

 

Zaccai Curtis, 6-3, Shooting Guard, Poughkeepsie High School, Class of 2021 - A guard that has plenty of energy when he’s on the floor. When it comes to loose balls, he will dive for them and will also block shots when on defense. Finds multiple ways to get to the basket on offense.

 

Neville Rowe 5-8, Point Guard, High School of Innovation, Class of 2023 - A guard that is very small in size, but big in heart. Isn’t afraid to guard the best player or someone bigger than him on defense. Is great for shooting jumpers from long range, whether he is being guarded or not.

 

Jalen Sabino, 5-10, Point Guard, WHEELS, Class of 2021 - A guard that is shifty and is fearless when getting into the lane in traffic. Is easily able to get past defenders and has a penchant for making difficult layups look easy. Has a nice shooting stroke off he dribble and has great ball handling skills.
