2020 The Showcase Top Performers

On Friday, November 20th, RecruitTheBronx.com paid a visit to the Yonkers PAL in Yonkers for “The Showcase,” which was put together by the GoTorey All-Stars, which had some of the best players in Westchester County, Dutchess County, New York City and New Jersey in action, playing in front of college coaches via a live-stream. Here are the standouts from the event:

 

Zaccai Curtis, 6-3, Shooting Guard, Poughkeepsie High School, Class of 2021 - A guard that has plenty of athleticism and energy when he’s on the floor. Is a player that loves to play above the rim and goes up at the rim with force. Has the ability to get to the basket with ease.

 

Promise Opurum 6-7, Forward, New Rochelle High School, Class of 2021 - A forward that has the ability to be a force in the low post area on the offensive end and has a penchant for holding his own when it comes to him getting rebounds. Has great hands and uses it to block shots on the defensive end. Is able to establish a presence in the paint area.

 

Javel Cherry, 6-2, Point Guard, Poughkeepsie High School, Class of 2021 - A guard that is the definition of a floor general as he plays the position very well. Is a guard that is able to read his teammates well, especially they’re moving around the floor and makes sure they are alert and able to receive passes that can lead to baskets. Is also a player that is able to drive to the basket with precision.

 

Tymir Greene 6-0, Point Guard, White Plains High School, Class of 2021 - A guard that is a good passer and finds ways to get his teammates involved and has a great IQ when he’s handling the ball on the perimeter. Is a player that likes to drive to the hole and is fearless when it comes to contact. Has a nice shooting touch that he steps off the dribble.

 

Dejon Hamilton, 6-5, Forward, Poughkeepsie High School, Class of 2021 - A forward that has guard skills, but can also use his height when it comes to holding his own when it comes to the boards. Loves to play above the rim and makes powerful slams that originate from one leg. Makes it very easy to score with his dribble, especially when he is not heavily guarded.

 

Derrick Bueno, 6-6, Forward, Roselle Catholic High School, Class of 2021 - A forward that is physically imposing in the paint area, but has plenty of skills and a great motor. Has plenty of strength & is able to post up smaller defenders. Is very active on the glass & can put the ball on the floor.

 

Jeremiah Arne, 6-2, Shooting Guard, Spring Valley High School, Class of 2022 - A guard that is able to see the floor and can run very well. Has a long wingspan and is very athletic. Finds many ways to get to the basket and has plenty of athleticism. Is able to score in many ways and has the ability to play above the rim as well.

 

Risaun Griffin, 5-7, Point Guard, Ramapo High School, Class of 2023 - A guard that is very quick and is able to get down the court with precision. Loves to get to the basket and is fearless when it comes to physical contact when driving to the basket. Is able to get to the basket with a good dribble and has great hands that allow him to get steals.

 

Daniel Roberts 5-9, Point Guard, Rye High School, Class of 2022 - A guard that is quick and has excellent court vision and is able to create for himself off the dribble. Knows when to pass the ball to his teammates and when to get his shots off. Has great instincts when on the ball, which allows him to play well and be an asset to his teammates.

 

Joshua Capellan 6-3, Shooting Guard, Fieldston School, Class of 2021 - A guard that is a great on-the-ball defender and is able to attack on the perimeter on offense. Has great good rebounding tendencies and is able to dribble down the court with quickness. Always stays open and looks to score.

 

Hamadi Martin, 5-9, Point Guard, Paramus Catholic High School (NJ), Class of 2023 - A guard that is diminutive in stature, but plays bigger than his height. Is great at attacking the lane and handing off assists to his teammates. Is fearless when going to the lane and is not afraid of contact.

 

Yave Cruz 6-3, Shooting Guard, Palisades Preparatory School, Class of 2021 - A guard that is big for his position and has a large wingspan and is great for attacking the lane. Is a player that can shoot from long range and knows how to back down a defender with his dribble. Is able to make hustle plays.

 

Jo’El Emmanuel, 6-6, Forward, Suffern High School, Class of 2021 - A forward that is very active on both ends of the floor. Has good hands and is known for blocking shots and has good athleticism. Is able to attack the glass and can get rebounds.

 

Matthew Phillips 6-6, Forward, Mount St. Michael Academy, Class of 2021 - A forward that is very active both on the perimeter and on the boards. Loves to play in the post area and uses his strength to hold his own in the paint. Has the ability to shoot from long range.

 

Shelvon Grant, 6-3, Shooting Guard, Poughkeepsie High School, Class of 2021 - A guard that is very smooth with the ball and is very careful when it comes to his decision-making with the ball. Uses his length to get the ball for rebounds and/or steals. Is great at getting to the basket and has a penchant for scoring with ease.

 

Jayson McGhee 6-1, Shooting Guard, New Rochelle High School, Class of 2021 - A guard that is fearless when he is on the court and is able to get to the basket efficiently. Uses his strength to draw contact when going to the basket and is a potent threat on the offensive end. Is also see where his teammates are moving around the lane in order to get them their passes.

 

Shaieem Gause, 5-8, Point Guard, Poughkeepsie High School, Class of 2021 - A guard that is very quick in transition and can see where his teammates are moving at all times. Has a penchant for making sure his teammates are moving around and getting the ball in the right spots. Uses his quickness tinder steals.

 

Darwin Dorvilus, 6-2, Shooting Guard, Spring Valley High School, Class of 2022 - A guard that is very shifty and is very alert on the floor. Knows where to attack when getting the hole and has a penchant for acrobatic layups. Is not afraid of physical contact when going to the basket.


Blaise New 5-8, Point Guard, Iona Preparatory School, Class of 2023 - A guard that is small in stature and is very shifty when it comes to his speed. Is a player that loves to get his teammates involved and has a great IQ and is good at making decisions when he has the ball. Has a penchant for shooting from long range.
