2021 TriState Sensational Six Top Performers 2/5/21

On Friday night, Recruit The Bronx paid a visit to the Yonkers Public Athletic League in Yonkers, New York to catch the Sensational Six event being put together by the Tri-State Classic. There were two games that took place between Bridgeport Prep (based out of Bridgeport, Connecticut) and Quality Academy (a New Jersey-based prep school program) and the later matchup between Vision Academy and Back 2 Basics, a squad comprised of players from different schools throughout the tri-state area. Here are the standouts from both games:

 

Max Mitchell 6-5, Forward, Bridgeport Prep, Class of 2021 - A forward that is able to be mobile in different ways and is able to hold his own in the paint. Is a great rebounder and is able to run the floor well, which aids in him getting passes and completing plays. Is great for attacking the basket after getting the ball.

 

PJ James 5-10, Point Guard, Bridgeport Prep, Class of 2023 - A guard that is able to communicate with his teammates very well on the floor and is a great floor general in his own right. Loves to push the ball up the floor and can make plays for himself. Goes up strong when he takes it to the basket and has a good jumper.

 

Jonathan Chery 6-3, Shooting Guard, Bridgeport Prep, Class of 2021 - A guard that has a lot of athleticism and is able to run well on the floor. Is very used to playing above the rim, as he is known to throw down dunks, especially when on the fast break. Has good hands, which he uses as a way to get steals, which lead to fast-break opportunities.

 

Mysonne Pollard 6-2, Shooting Guard, Bridgeport Prep, Class of 2023 - A guard that is very tough and scrappy and uses his edge to prosper on the court. Is a player that loves to run and is able to get into the lane with an explosive first step. Has a penchant for throwing down thunderous dunks when on the offensive end and blocking shots on the defensive end.

 

Quentar Taylor 6-2, Swing, Bridgeport Prep, Class of 2021 - A high school point guard who also showed us his undersized forward skills as a Post Grad. He is able to hold his own in the low post. Is a player that has a lot of strength and is able to be very mobile in the paint area. Uses his physicality to get baskets and also to corral rebounds on both the offensive and defensive ends.

 

Pape Fall 6-9, Forward, Bridgeport Prep, Class of 2023 - A forward that is solid in the paint area & has a long wingspan. Is a player that can run the floor and has plenty of athleticism, as he has the ability to play above the rim. Has good hands, which enable him to get rebounds or block shots.

 

Coby Sylvester, 6-0, Point Guard, Quality Academy (NJ), Class of 2021 - A guard that is quick, deceptive and shifty. Has good court vision and is able to see where his teammates are at when he has the ball in his possession. Has great defensive tendencies as he is able to stick with his man and force the opposition into getting turnovers.

 

Jared Veril, 6-2, Shooting Guard, Quality Academy (NJ), Class of 2021 - A guard that is very physical when driving into the lane and is able to play off the ball. Knows where his teammates are at at all times so that he can give them the ball at all times. Is a great defensive player and is able to stick by his man at all times.

 

Deon McLaughlin, 6-5, Shooting Guard, Quality Academy (NJ), Class of 2021 - A forward that is very strong and is able to bully his way into the lane. Makes strong drives to the basket and is able to finish at the rim. Is able to absorb contact when going up for a baskets.

 

Namir Simmons, 5-9, Point Guard, Quality Academy (NJ), Class of 2021 - A guard that is lightning and is able to create for himself on the floor. Has a penchant for running and directing a team on the fast break. Is great for passing and has a good jumper.

 

Tarik Dacosta 6-0, Shooting Guard, Vision Academy, Class of 2021 - A guard that has a smooth handle and is able to do plenty on the floor. Is able to attack the lane off the dribble ant can create for himself. Is getting at running off of picks and can attack the basket with ease.

 

Kyle Jackson 6-5, Forward, Vision Academy, Class of 2021 - A forward that is agile and uses his length and strong build to his advantage by snaring rebounds and excelling on the perimeter. Has a great handle and has awareness when it comes to getting past his defender. Has good scoring tendencies, especially in driving into the lane with his smooth handle.

 

Jaden Clarke 6-7, Forward, Vision Academy, Class of 2021 - A forward with size that is able that has great ball-handling skills on the perimeter. Has a quick first step that gives him the ability to drive into the lane.  Has a good jumpshot, which allows for him to step out from the paint and show off his versatility.

 

Jayshaun Felder 6-0, Point Guard, Vision Academy, Class of 2021 - A guard that is able to make great decisions on the floor and is able to see where his teammates are going at all times. A player that has a penchant for giving his players great passes. Also has a knack for getting past his defender and getting to the basket.

 

Elijah Bailey 5-10, Point Guard, Vision Academy, Class of 2022 - A quick and deceptive guard that is a true floor general on the court. Has excellent court vision and is able to move off of a pick & roll, which leads to him kicking it to a teammate or going to the basket. Has the ability to score when on the floor.

 

Richard Smith 6-3, Shooting Guard, Monsignor Scanlan High School, Back 2 Basics, Class of 2022 - A guard that has a penchant for taking over games with his poise and his presence on the court. Is very assertive when he has the ball in his hands and is able to go to the lane strong. Is able to score in a variety of ways and has a good jumper.

 

Nathaniel Maldonado 6-0, Shooting Guard, Frederick Gunn School (CT), Back 2 Basics, Class of 2022 - A guard that is shifty and can move at different speeds when on the floor. Has a penchant for guarding the opposition’s best player and is able to stick with his defender. Is able to score in a variety of ways, including shooting from the corner and also driving to the hole.

 

Elijah McKelvin 6-2, Shooting Guard, Archbishop Stepinac High (Varsity B) Back 2 Basics, Class of 2021 - A guard that is very active at all ends of the floor. Is able to get deflections or steals on the defensive end and has a great eye for when the opposition is coming. Is able to drive to the basket and can absorb contact, which easily leads to him drawing fouls.

 

John DiNapoli 6-1, Point Guard,Salesian High School, Back 2 Basics, Class of 2022 - A guard that knows how to make flashy plays and is a good defender. Is a player that can make his presence felt by doing the little things on the court for his teammates. Is able to give plenty of effort when he’s on the court.

 

TJ Chisolm 5-6, Point Guard, Salesian High School, Back 2 Basics, Class of 2021 - A guard that is small in stature, but plays like he’s of bigger stature. Has great hands and is able to get steals for the opposition with ease. Uses his speed to get to the basket and is great at hitting his teammates with good passes that lead to baskets.
