2023 West 4th Street Memorial Day Standouts

On Memorial Day, we were back at the Greenwich Village section of Manhattan for the annual West 4th Street Classic, which was in its opening weekend. In the final two games of the day that were played during the late afternoon, there was a lot of talent from throughout the five boroughs that were hungry and eager for a win in the legendary Cage. The Cage is one of the smallest asphalt playgrounds in the city, and has the only the strong survive reputation. Here are the standouts from Monday’s games:

 

Halon Rawlins 6-6, Forward, Nazareth High School, United Brooklyn, Class of 2025 - A forward that has the ability to make plays on both ends of the court. Is able to muscle his way around the basket and is a great physical specimen that is able to use his physicality in the low post and when he’s driving to the basket. Has the ability to make midrange shots from the perimeter.


Chase Beasley 6-3, Shooting Guard, Canarsie Educational Campus, United Brooklyn, Class of 2024 - A guard that is able to hold his own on the court, as he is able to make great plays when on the court. Is able to get past the opposition on the break and is able to glide to the bosket at all times. Is able to create for himself off of the dribble.


PJ Singleton 6-5, Shooting Guard, Bishop Loughlin High School, United Brooklyn, Class of 2026 - A guard that has plenty of size and length and is able to post up against smaller defenders. Is a high-volume shooter from long range and is a player that can bury the defense with his shot-making abilities. Has the ability to make his presence felt when going to the basket, as he is able to score easily.


Eric Acker 6-1, Shooting Guard, Eagle Academy II, Original Story, Class of 2023 - A guard that is able to take over a game when he has the opportunity to have the ball in his hands on a regular basis. Is able use his athleticism when going to the basket at all times. Has a penchant for going off on a tear when it comes to scoring in bunches.

 

Kyrone Alexander 6-5, Shooting Guard, South Shore High School, Original Story, Class of 2023 - A guard that has plenty of length and is able to a major offensive threat when on the court. Has a nice shooting touch and is able to hit mid-range shots and can make big plays on the court. Has the ability to obtain rebounds and run on the break.

 

Tyler Thomas 6-5, Forward, South Shore High School, Original Story, Class of 2025 - A forward that is a solid force in the low post. Is able to use his footwork in order to make good moves around the basket in order to score. Has a penchant for using his long reach on the defensive end. Is fearless when it comes to driving to the basket and is able to draw fouls and get to the free throw line.

 

Harvin Guevara 7-0, Forward, James Monroe High School Campus, PVO, Class of 2025 - A forward that has a penchant for using his skills in the front court. Has long arms and looks to obtain blocks and rebounds every time out on the break. Has the ability to run on the fast break and looks to distribute to his teammates when the opportunity presents itself.

 

Tristan Davis 5-11, Point Guard, Thomas Jefferson High School Campus, PVO, Class of 2025 -  A guard with a slick handle and the ability to drive to the lane and finish at the basket superbly. Is fearless when on the court and has plenty of heart to go along with grit. Although he can score, he is definitely a pass-first guard that can get his teammates involved at all times.

 

Adonis Nina, 6-3, Shooting Guard, AIM II Charter High School, Mighty Hawks, Class of 2023 - A guard that has the ability to take on whatever is put ahead of him. Has the ability to get past his defender with his dribbling and can score in bunches when left open or not guarded heavily. Is able to shoot from long range.

 

Alioune Dial 5-10, Shooting Guard, All Hallows High School, Mighty Hawks, Class of 2025 - A guard that has poise and looks to score. Is a player that can drive past the opposition and can finish strong at the basket. Knows when and where to distribute the ball to his teammates on the break and looks to have excellent court vision on the floor.
