2023 Gary Sims Day Standouts

On June 18, we made it to Edmonds Playground in the Fort Greene section of Brooklyn for the second annual Gary Sims Day event, which was put together by NYC Prospects. One of their games was the 9th grade game, which features the Class of 2026, a group of players that will be entering their sophomore year this fall. Many of the city’s finest players came out and put together a great effort on the court for a great cause. Here are the standouts for the game:

 

PJ Singleton 6-4, Shooting Guard, Bishop Loughlin High School - A guard with a long wingspan that likes to run down court and is good at driving to the basket. Is a player that explodes with athleticism when going to the rim. Knows how to beat his man off the dribble and has a nice jumper.

 

Joel Barnaby-Alexander 6-4, Shooting Guard, Monsignor McClancy High School - A guard that has a smooth handle and is able to get to where he needs to be on the court. Has a nice shooting touch from the perimeter and is able to finish efficiently on the court. Is fearless when it comes to obtaining rebounds and is a solid defender.

 

AJ Moody 5-11 Point Guard, Nazareth High School - A guard that is quick and is able to run on the fast break. Despite his frame, has the ability to showcase this athleticism when going to the basket. Is also a great distributor, as he is able to make sure that his teammates are moving so that they can have a chance to score.

 

Alonzo Archbold 6-6, Forward, Curtis High School - A forward with plenty of size and strength. Has a penchant for showcasing his athleticism on both ends of the court and is fearless when going up to score. Is able to block shots on the defensive end and is able to get to the basket easily.

 

Johansel Cruz 5-7, Point Guard, Monsignor Scanlan High School - A guard that is very smart and lets the game come to him. Has plenty of heart and is poised when he is on the court. Is a player that can find his teammates when they are moving around or are open, so that they can have opportunities to score.

 

Dylan Perry 6-6, Forward, Archbishop Stepinac High School - A forward that has long arms and can be a strong presence in the low post. Has a penchant for securing rebounds and for throwing down powerful dunks in the low post or when going to the rim. Is one of the keys to his team being successful on the court.

 

Jahzir Crawford 5-10, Point Guard, Holy Cross - A guard that is very crafty and is able to make sure that the tempo of his team is right when the ball is in play. Is able to be a distributor on the court and is able to see where his teammates are moving in order to put them in position to score. Has the ability to score himself, as he is one that likes to drive to the basket when the opportunity presents itself.

 

Caleb Ourigou 6-9, Forward, Monsignor McClancy High School - A forward that is a force in the low post area and is able to hold his own at the five position. Has great hands, which aid in him blocking shots and grabbing rebounds on the court. Has good footwork and is able to move around well on the offensive end.

 

Preston Merrick 6-4, Shooting Guard, The Hotchkiss School - A guard that has the ability to make great plays when on the court. Is a solid rebounder that is fearless when it comes to physical contact. Is known for his athleticism, as he is able to go to the rim on the offensive end and throw down powerful dunks. Also has great hands on the defensive end, which aid in him obtaining blocked shots.

 

Oseomana Sacko 6-8, Forward, St. Francis Preparatory High School - A forward that has a penchant for being versatile on both ends of the court. Is a strong inside presence that is able to muscle his way to the basket and can absorb contact when going up to score. Has good hands, which allow him to obtain rebounds and block shots in the post area. Is able to put the ball on the floor.

 

Dior Anderson 6-1, Point Guard, Monsignor Scanlan High School - A guard that has the ability to use his quickness and strength on the court. Is a great decision maker when on the floor. Is fearless when driving to the basket and is a good finisher. Is able to shoot from long range, especially when left open.

 

Justin Delgado 6-5, Forward, Nazareth High School - A forward that is always alert on both ends of the court and is an asset to his team. Is able to absorb rebounds and kick it out to teammates that are going down court on the break. Has superb athleticism, which he uses when on the offensive end, especially when it comes to dunks.

 

Richard Jackson 6-1, Point Guard, Bishop Loughlin High School - A guard that is a great decision maker every time he is on the court & shows great leadership skills at the one position. Is always ready to give his team a clutch basket when it is needed, as he is prone to driving to the basket and scoring in transition. Is always ready to give the ball to his teammates at the right moments.
